It takes Peace toStop Military Pollution

As children, we were taught that the military protected us in times of war. Welearned about soldiers being killed and wounded by 'the enemy', and how people died ifthey got shot or if a bomb landed on them. Sometimes innocent people got killed duringa war, but the fact that most victims were civilians was carefully hidden from us by ourelders. They knew that children are smart enough to understand that there is a big moraldifference between killing other soldiers and killing ordinary people. That a significantnumber of deaths were caused not by a weapon's impact, but by its toxicity and by mil-itary pollution, was never mentioned.

We did not learn that military toxins know no boundaries, that they don't just kill theenemy, they kill our military personnel and people living near military bases, that theypollute the water, land and air. We were not taught and still aren't told today that militarytoxins go anywhere and kill everything, that they are in fact the [ cont’d page 7 ]

“Teen Screen”: Feds Promote DrugsThe truth is, with full support from Pres. Bush, the pharmaceutical industry is

using TeenScreen as a vehicle to push dangerous drugs on children who in the eyes ofmany experts are already being overmedicated.

Despite that the fact that SSRI antidepressants are banned for use with children inthe UK and despite the FDA "black box" warning label now required on all SSRIs thatthe drugs increase suicidal thinking and behavior in kids, the NFC not only recommendsthat the same drugs be prescribed to children, it promotes the very schemes that willincrease the number of kids on these drugs in schools and other public institutions.

According to a report by the Florida Statewide Advocacy Council, posted on KenKramer's website, an investigation in Florida found that of 1,180 kids in foster care, 652were on one or more psychotropic drugs.

In Texas, Dr John Breeding, an Austin psychologist, has seen cases where somefoster children were placed on as many as 17 drugs and says drugs are being used aschemical restraints in Texas. He wants all SSRIs and neuroleptic drugs banned from useon children "The SSRIs are extremely harmful and addictive; and can cause or exacer-bate suicidal or homicidal tendencies; withdrawal is painful and dangerous."

Dr Ann Blake Tracy is the Director of the International Coalition for DrugAwareness, holds a doctorate in biological psychology, and is a specialist in the adversereactions to SSRI medications. Tracy claims the whole hypothesis of SSRIs is "back-wards." She says the drugs increase serotonin while decreasing the metabolism of sero-tonin, especially in the 7 to 10% of the population that studies have shown don't havethe proper enzyme to metabolize SSRIs in the first plac.

Dr Tracy can recite hundreds of horror stories involving violence by people takingthe same drugs that TeenScreen is marketing to more children.

She told the Morning News about, "the professor on Prozac who bit her mother todeath; the Stanford graduate on Paxil who stabbed herself in the kitchen while her par-ents slept; the mother who bludgeoned her son and then drank a can of Drano; and the12-year-old girl who strangled herself with a bungee cord she attached to a plant hang-er on the wall."

"Most of these drugs are not approved for children, but it doesn't stop doctors fromprescribing them," Tracy points out.

Instead of pushing drugs in their Teen Screen federal program, the feds should real-ize that teens will respond positively to freedom and truth.

James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution for the United States, madeit clear :"We have staked the whole future of all our political constitutions upon thecapacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles ofthe Ten Commandments."

We are each Sovereign; government is the servant. Government shall not pushdrugs or promote drug use in any federal program for Teens or anyone else.

the entire student body at Maunaloa Elementary School. This is the second school torequest a vision screening for all their students. Lion Lucy Davis, school health aide andKahana Pele DeKneef, Parent Community Network Center coordinator obtained per-mission forms and set up the area used for testing. The children came in orderly, friend-ly and extremely responsive to the Lions. What a joy to report that all tested very wellwith no apparent sight problems. 54 out of 57 students were tested. A school permissionslip is necessary.

Special thanks to Lion Lucy and Kahana for their assistance, to principlal JoeYamamoto, and to the team of Lions; Ron Bauman, Ed and Shirley Fulkerson, JoePentax and Bill and Jackie Cushman. We invite the 2 remaining elementary schools tocontact Lion Jackie Cushman (553-5006) to request this service. Poor eye sight can befixed! 3rd Annual Senior FairIt was Lei Day at four schools, many kupuna attended the morning Lei Day festiv-

ities and some were able to also attend the 3rd annual Senior Fair held from 9am-12:30pm at the Home Pumehana Senior Center. Fifty agencies and businesses partici-pated, offering information about services for the Seniors in our community. Someagencies sent representatives from Oahu and Maui, including Social Security, MEO,Hale Mahaolu, the Red Cross, Foster Grandparents, and others came from the plethoraof services right here on island.

There was health screening by the friendly Molokai Community Health Centerstaff , blood pressure monitoring by Molokai General Hospital along with a sample andrecipe for diabetic muffins. Freebies (brochures, personalized information, pens, pencils, magnets, fans, fly swatters, healthy snacks) along with the displays and helpful staff was infor-mative. If you took brochures and information, there was lots to read and digest to planfor medicare prescription benefits, health care, fifty booths, a variety of information, too much to list, but the Filipino plate lunch was generous and ono looking -- if youdidn’t already have lunch planned from the Kaunoa Senior Services/RSVP with ReneeYasso. Coordinating the event was Jersula Manaba and committee members Kau‘iKapuni, Rose Siquian, Dorie Loo, Claire Iveson, Rietta Kaupu-Tollefsen, Zessica Apiki,Nani Duvauchelle and Jim Callahan.

EARTH DAY contd’ Military Pollutionfrom page 4.....quintessential universal soldier. The U.S. Department of Defense is the largest polluter in the world, producing

more hazardous waste than the five largest U.S. chemical companies combined. (1) Thetypes of hazardous wastes used by the military include pesticides and defoliants likeAgent Orange. It includes solvents, petroleum, perchlorate (a component of rocket fuel)lead and mercury. And most ominously, depleted uranium.

The health problems that have been documented as being attributable to these var-ious toxins in military use include miscarriages, low birth weight, birth defects, kidneydisease and cancer.

It is the military's use of Depleted Uranium that should cause the most alarm. Notonly is the evidence of irreparable harm becoming undeniable, it is also quite clear thatthe U.S. government has been aware of the lethality of these weapons for quite sometime. Despite denials of health risks, a 1950 Army pamphlet states, "Although there isnegligible danger from uranium and plutonium outside the body, it is possible for dan-gerous amounts of these elements to enter the body through the lungs, the digestive sys-tem, or breaks in the skin."

An FAA Advisory Circular written in 1984 stated, "if particles are inhaled oringested, they can be chemically toxic and cause a significant and long-lasting irradia-tion of internal tissue." In 1990, U.S. Army Armaments, Munitions and ChemicalCommand (AMCCOM) reported that depleted uranium is a "low level alpha radiationemitter, which is linked to cancer when exposures are internal." AMCCOM's radiolog-ical task group also pointed out that the "long term effects of low doses of DU have beenimplicated in cancerâ?œthere is no dose so low that the probability of effect is zero."The risk to our own military personnel was spelled out in a 1993 letter from the U.S.Army Surgeon General stating that, "When soldiers inhale or ingest DU dust, they incura potential increase in cancer risk." And in 1995, a U.S. Army U.S. Army EnvironmentalPolicy Institute report to Congress says that depleted uranium has the potential to gen-erate "significant medical consequences".

The impact of depleted uranium on Gulf War veterans is so staggering that it isincomprehensible that the U.S. government persists in denying the damage done. Thenumbers tell the obvious story. During the three-week war in 1990-91, 467 U.S. per-sonnel were reported injured. Since then, more than 11,000 Gulf War veterans have diedand more than 600,000 are on permanent disability due to their exposure to depleteduranium, or what we euphemistically call Gulf War Syndrome.

But U.S. military personnel are of course not the only victims of depleted uranium. Many returning soldiers brought it home to their families as well. Wives and girlfriendshave been contaminated through sperm, causing a variety of gynecological problems, including cancer and the need for hysterectomies. Children born to Gulf Veterans havea much higher than normal incidence of birth defects, cancer and other diseases.

With Debra, Auntie Hannah, and Lillian, Kau‘i shows she knows many more than onehula, accompanied by the Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna musicians.

The many services offered by Care Resources, Na Pu‘uwai and Hospice Hawai‘i wasavailable from Tessie Matayoshi, Jo Manaba, Donna Carvalho, and Alice Kono. TheFitness Center, Diabetes Education, and regular Cardiac Risk clinics as well as behav-

ioral health services are offered by the Native Hawaiian health program.

And of course, the same problems that have plagued our own citizens have alsotaken place in the countries where depleted uranium has been used, including theBalkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. In Basra, Iraq, cancer rates have leapt from 11/100,000in 1988 to 123/100,000 in 2002. Cancer in children under the age of fifteen has tripledat the Basra Maternity and Children's hospital since 1990. Children under five years ofage now make up 56% of the reported cancer cases, in 1990, they were 13% of the total. There were several cases of babies born with multiple congenital birth defects in 1990.In the last three years there have been more than 200 such cases. This scenario is beingplayed out wherever depleted uranium has been used.

As human rights attorney Karen Parker explains, the use of depleted uranium isillegal in four ways: It fails the territorial test because it can't be contained on the bat-tlefield. The impact of depleted uranium continues to be felt after the battle is over. Itis illegal because it causes inhumane death and injury. Depleted uranium irreparablydamages the environment. For all these reasons, the use of depleted uranium is in vio-lation of the Geneva Convention and constitutes a war crime.

Why then are we still persisting in our use of toxic weaponry in the face of suchoverwhelming danger to our environment and health? There is no justification for ourmilitary killing us to protect us. Our continued ignorance and silence will become ourcollective epitaph.

Now we find out the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq were unnecessary: CIA'sfinal report says No WMD found in Iraq "In his final word, the CIA's top weaponsinspector in Iraq said Monday that the hunt for weapons of mass destruction has 'goneas far as feasible' and has found nothing, closing an investigation into the purportedprograms of Saddam Hussein that were used to justify the 2003 invasion. 'After morethan 18 months, the WMD investigation and debriefing of the WMD-related detaineeshas been exhausted,' wrote Charles Duelfer, head of the Iraq Survey Group, in anaddendum to the final report he issued last fall." (04/25/05)

[Editor’s notes: "Silence can only be equated with fraud when there is a legal ormoral duty to speak, or when an inquiry left unanswered would be intentionally mis-leading... We cannot condone this shocking conduct... If this is the case we hope ourmessage is clear. This sort of decption will not be tolerated and if this is routine itshould be corrected immediately" —U.S. v. Twell 550 F2d 297, 299-300

Above all, the people of this land who are born to Americans on American soil areby birthright members of the sovereignty. We are the supreme force in law and order, and all other aspects of life. We each are a king in our own right, and are NOT sub-ject to rules made by other men and women without our consent. We are sovereign, and it is we who must behave as sovereigns. BRING our TROOPS home now!]

"...with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledgeto each other our lives, or fortunes and our sacred honor." (Decl. of Indep.)

Free and Independent with Gunsfor every Soverign Citizen

See page 12 of the December, 2004 issue of National Geographic. There is a large area between Afghanistan and Pakistan where the right to keep and

bear arms is a reality. Here, a fiercely independent people have successfully survivedwithout being adopted, subjugated, or tamed by any foreign nation-state, Afghanistan,Pakistan or anyone else, including the former USSR.

The average household in this area has a watch tower and a solid fence around thehome, plus, a heavy anti-aircraft gun in the watchtower, plus a 50 caliber machine gun,and enough AK-47's or other full automatic military style rifles for each family memberto use for defense, plus ample ammunition. The residents, or inhabitants of this area arefiercely independent, self-sufficient, athletic, and lean/mean fighting machines. No onewants to "mess with them". Those who have messed with them have regretted it. Theyremain independent and free!

Unlike the modern USA: 1) These Middle Eastern village people exercise the 2ndAmendment even when it is not in their law books, because the core idea of self defenselives in their heart and in their psyche and they know the true value of arms under theircontrol; and 2) There is more than a correlation, there is a direct cause and effect, between the degree of independence one retains and the type of firepower one retains, coupled with the skill and willingness to use that firepower to retain one's independence.

While we spend billions guarding Iraq's border, we suffer an invasion of twenty mil-lion illegal aliens from the Mexican border and it grows by three million annually. Thisis a Third World invasion without an end to the line, and the Minute Men with arms havestepped up to assist the US Border Patrol with positive results.

But Pres. Bush and Condi Rice refuse to stop the alien invasion, and call the MinuteMen vigilantes. Bush and Rice need to learn what the Constitution means: It means therule of law is to be enforced by those who swear on the Bible to uphold its concepts.

It doesn't mean working against citizens who make up the legal population of thissociety. It doesn't mean ignoring 20 million people illegally operating in the USA. Itdoesn't mean encouraging more terror by leaving the borders stark raving open.

When Americans see a line of 50 state flags stabbed into the soil garnished withhundreds of the Stars and Stripes, they will once again stand for their country. It's worthfighting for. It's our country. It's our future. It's our children.

Rice and Bush don't know what's going on at the border. They are aloof, insulated, isolated and totally clueless. The Minute Man Project is the American Revolution. Those who don’t care to protect our borders from foreign invasion, and those who don’tcare to defend our Constitution from our terrorist government, deserve no freedom.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitudebetter than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us inpeace. We ask not your counsel or your arms. Crouch down and lickthe hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, andmay posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

F R E E D O M !Three is a Crowd:

Why You Shouldn’t Get a Marriage LicenseA marriage license involves three entities: Husband, wife and STATE.It is mere state recognition of your marriage and circumstantially brings you into

statutory marriage laws of the state. In essence you marry the state. And this becomescrystal clear when you divorce, because the State shows itself to be an interested Partythat gets to decide how to divide up your property, and take some for itself, and of coursethe Officers of the Court, i.e., lawyers, judges et al, collect large fees.

Black’s Law dictionary defines marriage license, and you can trace it back to alicense to INTERMARRY BETWEEN THE RACES. This should trigger somethingin your mind: In order to prevent inter-racial-marrying, the government tried to passlaws saying someone should have a marriage license. Once the government got in themarriage business, they won’t withdraw too much money. However the common lawstill exists and people can simply marry without the state: Its called a common-law mar-riage. LET THIS BE A WARNING TO ALL WHO SEEK MARRIAGE LICENSESFROM BIG BROTHER- if you don’t want to marry the State, that is.

No founding father of our Nation sheepishly walked into a government office andasked for such permission to marry! And no Soverign American needs to do that today.Simply record your marriage in your bible.

You ask: “Well is the marriage legal?”Good grief, Charlie Brown! Just what part of unalienable rights don’t you under-

stand? Does the government have the right to dictate to whom you can love for the restof your life?”

Please people, CLAIM YOUR RIGHT, DON’T ASK GOVERNMENT FOR IT.Worldwide, the human race divides politically into two factions: those who want

people to be controlled, and those who have no such desire. The urge to “save humanity” is almost always a false front for the urge to rule. The people of the Republic retained all right and power not specifically granted to

governments (see McCulloch vs Maryland 4 wheat 316 (402) or 17 US 316 (1819)) andthe Bill of Rights, most specifically the ninth and tenth amendments).

JUDICIAL CONFLICT AND CORRUPTIONSThe only place a person can go for redress of grievance of wrongs

done to him by unconstitutional laws or the unconstitutional enforce-ment of same, is to a court where the judges have ruled themselves tobe immune from unconstitutional rulings.

Do we all see the problem, now?

Crimes of Politicians Must Be Stopped by The People (You are The Militia)The crime on our streets is a tiny fraction of the crime in the offices of our politicians and bureaucrats - the massive majority of crime is committeed by the criminal classes in power. Just look

at the constant abuse of power in our State government offices and you will realize the extent of crime in Government. Just consider just how many BILLIONS of dollars a day Government extortsfrom the people and how little WE get in return; and just how comfortable the politicians make themselves at the expense of the peoples they extort!

The goal of the founders of America was to restrict government within severe limits and to protect the rights of soverign individuals. Government has NO rights!Judges are impeachable. Furthermore, judges may be removed immediately for violating oaths of office, involvement in conspiracies, extortion, and failing to uphold their duty to the common

law. Judges can also be arrested, they are not exempt from this nor are any other officials, including the President of the United States.Do the people have the power to do this? Yes, the people have the power to do everything to defend our country against all enemies foreign or domestic politician, and government has no power

to say otherwise. Fascist bureaucrats might send out its armed marauders, but a huge group of The People (Militia) armed with guns as guaranteed their Right to keep and bear arms by the 2ndAmendment is likely to stop them unless the governments decide that it is time to begin mass killings of all people who believe in the rights of Man. Wake up ! Enforce the Bill of Rights !

New CD Release: WELOArtist: Kaumakaiwa (Lopaka) Kanaka‘ole

It’s time for the voice of Na Hoku Hanohanoaward winner Kaumakaiwa (Lopaka) Kanaka‘oleto rise and speak of today’s young Hawaiian peo-ple. “Welo” honors the ancestors of the past, butmost definitely has today’s sound. Kaumakaiwaturns 13 original new songs into the most interest-ing album to come out of Hawai‘i this year. Hisfirst album, “Ha‘i Kupuna” was awarded the 2003Na Hoku for composer of the year.

He blends music and chant with extraordinarynew interpretations that include the sounds of acello, snare drum and harmonica blended with theancient musical implements of Hawai‘i. He isjoined by special guests Robert Cazimero, KekuhiKanahele and Napua Greig.

Kaumakaiwa is the eldest son of KekuhiKanahele, grandson of Pualani Kanaka‘ole andgreat grandson of Edith Kanahele Kana‘ole, well-known Kumu Hula. He says, “ Aseach generation passes it becomes more and more challenging for the next to not onlymeet that standard but seek to raise the bar of native intelligence and push the envelope. So, my music is a testament to this endeavor, not to meet any expectations people mighthave, but rather embrace my birthright and rise to the standards these generations beforeme and generation before them have set--seek not to change the face of Hawaiianmusic, but rather to add to the potential of its growth and natural progression.”

Few musicians are ever able to transfer a studio performance to a live performancewith the same energy. In this case, Kaumakaiwa’s dynamic force that brings audiencesto their feet was captured in the studio with his musicians and channeled into this beau-tifully mixed CD.

If you want to hear what the future of Hawaiian music holds, this CD will point youin the right direction. For a preview of “Welo” visit www.mountainapplecompany.com.
