    It is essential that employees,workers and tenants should:

    Follow the fire prevention rules

    and be especially careful not tostart fires

    Know how to put out small fires

    Have on hand simple tools and

    equipment needed for fire-fighting

    Be able to use fire extinguishers

    and other available fire- fighting

    apparatus

    Panic:

    Sudden, unreasoning, hysterical fear, often

    spreading quickly

    It is caused by fear, although those involved may

    not know what they fear

    People may be tempted to join in a fleeing crowd

    Attempting to reason with such crowd, may be

    futile, but it may be possible to control the groupby assuming leadership or distracting key members

    of the group

    Panic Deterrents: To reduce the likelihood of panic, the physical

    causes of panic should be eliminated.

    in an emergency, the organization shuld be

    prepared to remove the injured ad the dead from

    general view.

    Pre- emergency preparation should include

    arrangements to facilitate control of people duringdisasters, such as having enough exits, making

    routes in evacuating, locating organization

    personnel, give calm, decisive instructions at place

    where groups are likely to congregate

    Antidotes for Panic: Provide Assurance- exert leadership.

    Reassure the group by giving instructions

    and information calmly

    Eliminate unrest- dispel rumors. Identify

    trouble makers and prevent them from

    spreading discontent and fear

    Demonstrate decisiveness- Suggest

    positive actions. Indicate what to do,

    rather than what not to do.

    After shocks may come in rapid

    succession immediately after the

    initial shocks or the interval of after-

    shocks may vary from a few minutes

    to several hours or days and maykeep repeating for months

    The degree of damage to life and

    property will depend upon theintensity of the shock and after-

    shocks.

    Seek cover under heavy

    furniture like tables, bed, or

    couches. This will serve as shock

    absorber from falling walls anddebris or heavy objects

    Do not try to get out of the premises

    for you will not have the time to do so.

    Slowly get out of the place where you

    sought cover, if you can, then;

    Shut off all main switches, like gas and

    electricity

    Calmly get out of the building and go toopen spaces where you can keep a distance

    of about the height of the tallest building

    in the area.

    In getting out of the building, do not use the

    elevatorWait for further announcements from

    proper authorities

    Do not believe in wild rumors and

    unfounded predictions

    Your first action should be to

    seek cover. Inside parked cars,

    motor vehicles or strong

    structures are the best placesBeware of falling electric post

    and wires, falling debris from

    buildings and signboards,

    street signs, etc. stay away from loosely

    hanging objects that may fall

    In a Mountainous Area

    Maintain presence of mind. Stop vehicle in

    safe place away from precipices where

    landslides may occur but stay put inside

    vehicles.In the City or Town

    Stop the vehicle in a safe place far from tall

    buildings and stay inside until tremors subside

    After the Initial Shock or Tremors

    Slowly drive your vehicle and avoid passing

    landslides, ground fissures, near damageddams which are causing overflows of water

    and flood, and avoid falling debris and

    crumbling walls or structures when driving in

    cities or town.

    The following measures are suggested for the

    community to observe and execute

    Activate the Disaster Teams at once

    Implement pre-planned action, if necessaryReport losses if any, to higher authority
