I have a story to tell you about Clara and why Clara loves water so much. Clara had cancer. For two years, she was treated for cancer and lived in a children’s hospital for most of that time. It was a very difficult and challenging experience for Clara and her family. One important thing that she learned from the doctors about how to enhance her health was drinking lots of water. Drinking clean water (sometimes with lemon, sometimes with ice) was something she did consistently through her treatment and something she continues to do to keep herself healthy and well.

Washing Hands Demonstration:

Teach this to your kids — wash your hands together often so they learn how important this good habit is:

1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold). 2. Make sure the water isn't too hot.3. Use soap and lather up for about 20 seconds. 4. Make sure you get in between your fingers, on the backs of hands, wrists, and under the nails where germs like to hang out.5. Rinse and dry well with a clean towel.

Don't underestimate the power of hand washing and bathing! The time you spend at the sink could save you a trip to the doctor's office!

Hydration Demonstration:

Take a dry sponge and a bowl of water. Use the sponge to discuss what happens to our cells (and plants) when we don’t have enough water in our bodies. We dry up. To stay hydrated, we need to drink water so our cells are full.

Water, the universal solvent, plays an essential role in the efficient functioning of the electrical transmissions within the nervous system and ultimately our ability to think, learn, and interact. We are electrical beings, we need to stay hydrated to feel, think, and perform well!

Water is a powerful conductor of electricity and the human body consisting of between 60%-75% water needs to remain well-hydrated in order to deliver its millions of messages and functions throughout our bodies.
