Emerging Resistance DetectionBD Phoenix™ technology has demonstrated performance in detecting emerging resistance

In addition to accurately confirming known resistance, the BD Phoenix system has demonstrated performance in rapidly* detecting resistance in organisms to antimicrobials that historically have been susceptible.1-6

This rapid and accurate detection allows for timely and appropriate patient therapeutic intervention.

Historically, when organisms with emerging resistance is have been tested, the BD Phoenix system performed well, with no re-configuring of panels, software or algorithms required.1-6 The combination of this ability to detect emerging resistance detection with built-in resistance marker detection provides rapid results from instrument to report without delays.

* Expected time to susceptibility results is 9-16 hrs, on average, depending on the organism.

The BD EpiCenter data management system is an integral component of the BD Phoenix M50 instrument. Monitoring, analyzing and communicating microbiology data in a timely manner can directly impact patient care. However, obtaining, organizing and communicating this information is labor intensive and current information systems or middleware solutions can make even routine antibiogram generation difficult .7

Today, clinicians need immediate access to patient-focused information to rapidly identify and react to emerging resistance or HAI events. The BD EpiCenter system provides the real-time data access and analysis tools required to impact patient care.

The BD Phoenix AP instrument complements the BD Phoenix M50 instrument by:

• Decreasing technologist time and labor to prepare the panels

• Standardizing inoculum preparation

• Incorporating automated nephelometry

Inoculum preparation has traditionally been one of the most time consuming, manual steps associated with isolate preparation. The BD Phoenix AP instrument is capable of processing a starting McFarland of 0.20 to 4.0 to the appropriate testing McFarland, and can increase the consistency of the isolate preparation.
