OverviewOUR PHILOSOPHY

APT aims to provide simple, cost effective and

efficient solutions to the mineral processing

industry. We continually strive to raise the bar,

by questioning the existing, and innovating

for improvement. Our extensive Research and

Development capability, with internal laboratory

and workshops, is ideally suited to test new

processes and deliver product designs that are

not only efficient, but simple and ergonomic.

APT’s designs are as minimalistic as possible

whilst providing an elegant, robust platform to

make the most of your project. Being modular and

pre-fabricated prior to shipping, and assembled

on site, project lead times are extremely short.

Installations through to production have been

achieved in as little as four days.

OUR GLOBAL FOOTPRINT

APT is based in Johannesburg South Africa and

is represented in 48 countries globally. More than

80 plants of all sizes have been produced to date,

with a distribution in over 25 countries. Plants

are available for alluvial, hard rock, tailings and

combinations of feed types. Processes incorporate

gravity wherever possible, but also include

flotation and cyanidation via APT’s renowned

TriTank CIP and CIL systems.

APT AS A BUSINESS SOLUTION

Mining is a business and viability is enhanced

not only by low capital, but also through ongoing

low operating costs. APT plants are amongst the

lowest cost-per-ounce available anywhere and

coupled with enhanced recoveries, high availability

and ease of operation the maximum business

advantage is assured.

LET YOUR PROJECT FUND ITSELF

The same advantages are available throughout the

APT plant range, from as little as 3tph through to

250tph capacity with logical increments in between.

The opportunity therefore exists to invest small and

grow your project through internal funding. This not

only assures a painless initiation but also lends the

opportunity to optimize and streamline as you go.

ARTISANAL DEVELOPMENT

APT takes the artisanal sector seriously with a

division dedicated especially to this market, called

GroundBreaker Division. Products cater to all

aspects from alluvial through to hard rock with

small combination plants also being available.

Many artisanal operations have managed to

internally grow beyond this scale and access

larger scale equipment, a testimony to APT’s

versatility. Corporate governance programmes are

also catered for where groups of artisanals are

empowered to operate efficiently and responsibly.

NO MERCURY AND REMEDIATION

APT plants do not require the use of mercury and

APT’s policy is mercury free. Even the artisanal

range is equipped with the means to get the job

done without having to resort to this toxic element.

More than just avoidance, APT manufactures plants

to specifically remediate mercury contaminated

areas, usually recovering significant quantities of

gold in the process.

MINERAL TEST WORK SERVICES

Through our ISO9001:2008 certified associated

laboratory Peacocke, Simpson and Associates,

testing is available for virtually any anticipated

process. More specifically, regimes have been

developed to test the suitability of the client’s

samples in any of the candidate APT plant types,

affording a perfect match between requirement

and solution.

FIELD LABORATORIES

Field analytical laboratories are available in a

variety of configurations to cater for geological

exploration through to CIL plant monitoring and

combination of these.

PRODUCTS

APT plants are supplied as fully comprehensive

modular solutions from ore through to gold dore,

or bagged mineral concentrates as appropriate.

The process usually begins with our famous

RG scrubber range to disintegrate loose feeds

and separate fines for gravity whilst coarse rock

proceeds to crushing and grinding. Initial gravity

recovery is achieved either through APT’s own

GoldKacha concentrator at small scale or Knelson

concentrators at large scale and jigs for the

coarser mineral separations. If gold dissolution

is required APT’s TriTank CIP or CIL options are

included, all the way through to elution and smelt.

GroundBreaker Range Complete Modular Start-Up & Exploration PlantsOur plants can process sand, clay & hard rock. A variety of minerals can be upgraded safely & efficiently. The modular design allows for different modules to be added to expand your plants as the need arises for you to process more, or different, material. This allows you to gain a return on investment as you expand.

GoldKacha Centrifugal Gravity Concentrator Processing System

The GoldKacha is especially suited to the recovery of precious metals from dump tailings, rubble beds & alluvial sands. It was developed especially for small mining applications. The novel centrifugal riffle

principle results in high recovery of both coarse & fine precious metals.

The GoldKacha is a simple & robust centrifugal gravity concentrator processing system. Material is slurried with water via the supplied screen. The concentrate is usually purged once every hour & requires further upgrade using equipment such as conventional panning or APT’s GoldKonka concentrate upgrader.

Several GoldKachas can be implemented as a custom treatment facility, where the owner can hire them out & enable others to process their own material in a safe & simple way.

Nesting several units also means that one operator can treat a larger tonnage of his own material.

“The simplicity of the GoldKacha makes it a very easy unit to achieve regular good percentage gold recoveries.”

Neil Greenway (Director, Greenline Services)

RDGK Hard Rock Plant Precious Mineral Liberation Solution

The RDGK Crusher is a small-scale plant that combines the RD Wet Impactor with the GoldKacha in one convenient modular package. The RDGK is portable, easy-to-operate, utilises no chemicals & only requires a water source. It has a low environmental impact with small energy & footprint requirements.

Hard rock bearing material is fed by hand into the top of the RDGK. Alternatively, a ramp can

be built to feed material directly into the feed launder where it is crushed to size and passed through to the GoldKacha. Here, the material is concentrated & prepared for final upgrade via the APT GoldKonka Concentrates Upgrader.

If rock is larger than 40mm, a small APT Jaw Crusher is used.

APT MERCURY FREE UPGRADE SOLUTIONS

GoldJigga The GoldJigga is a manual hydraulic jig used to concentrate coarse nuggets of gold from coarse (+3mm) oversize material. The material is placed in a basket with a screen base and manually jigged in a tank of water. The basket is then removed and inverted into a tray, and the coarse gold nuggets and/or gems, which have concentrated at the base of the basket, can be picked out by hand.

GoldKonka Mercury Free Concentrates Upgrader

The GoldKonka was designed as a mercury free solution for concentrate upgrades. It is simple to use & is able to recover the finest gold particles.

Concentrates are fed over 3 consecutive sluice trays with water & the heavy gold-bearing particles are caught on the surface of each tray. The concentrate from the trays are then washed off with water into the 2 wash basins. The material left in these basins is then smelted using the APT smelter furnace.

Several GoldKonka’s can be set up as nesting units, in the same way as the GoldKacha operation.

This allows for several people to upgrade their material more swiftly & efficiently. This method is safer to the miners & their environment. Recovery is higher & a greater profit is made.

The truth is, mercury is highly effective in gold recovery. What people need is not just a good mercury-free solution, but a solution that rivals its effectiveness.

APT has that solution

Mercury is not APT

“I have worked with a team to make the RD15GK into a very competent gold recovery pilot plant. The plant is highly portable and was run as a production / pilot plant. I was

able to achieve a greater through put per hour into the GK with a constant head of water and regular purging of the concentrate. The percentage recovery of gold was greater

than suggested from constant supervision of the RD15GK combo unit.”

RG Scrubber Alluvial Sand & Clay Process Plants

All of APT’s scrubber plants are based on a modular design with rapid delivery & commissioning times. The modular plant philosophy allows you to start recovering minerals with a base scrubber/concentrator unit, & add modules as you progress. Various crushing, milling & other upgrade modules can be ordered to make your solution more comprehensive. This can be implemented at a later stage, once you have begun to see an initial return on investment. This way, APT provides miners with a low capital starting point. The income that these base plants generate can then be used to fund their further expansion & enhance recovery.

The plants are environmentally friendly, using no mercury or harmful chemicals. All that is required is an area to place the plant & a reliable water

source. APT solutions are designed with low energy requirements & can be run by a generator, making them independent of the grid and trans locatable.

Precious Mineral Wash Plants

The standard APT RG Scrubber is used in combination with the world renowned FLSmidth Knelson concentrator or APT’s GoldKacha for optimal gold recovery.

Firstly, material is fed into the RG Scrubber, where it is washed & screened before being pumped to the gravity concentrator. The oversize material leaves the scrubber on the discharge conveyor, & is simply discarded.

Concentrate clean-up & smelting facilities are provided in an on-site gold room, supplied by APT. These plants come pre-packaged, pre-plumbed & pre-wired, with all the necessary components needed.

These plants range from the groundbreaker size, through to large-scale placer mining operations.

“The combination of the RG100 with the Knelson MD12 Concentrator is an excellent match. Even the most stubborn clays are disintegrated by the autogenous scrubbing action in the

drum section (assuming correct feed rate), and this plant combo is excellent for processing of eluvial and alluvial ores, especially smaller high value deposits.”

James Duguid (Managing Director, Stillram Mining Co.p/l)

“We have been using the RG200 Scrubber to process bauxite at our mine for 3 years. This machine has been used on a daily basis, and handles a constant feed of 15-20tph.

It successfully breaks down the tough clay content & thoroughly cleans any hard rock content within the feed material. The RG200 very successfully screens & separates our target material

(-3mm). We have had good after sales service from APT & are satisfied with the plant supplied.”

Bulk Mineral Washing Plants

The RG Scrubber is not only limited to gold recovery & can be used to recover other minerals such as diamonds, bauxite & bulk minerals such as chrome, tin & tantalite. The required modules are simply added to the base scrubber to form a fully comprehensive solution.

Firstly, material is fed into the RG Scrubber, where it is washed and screened before being pumped into the required concentrator. The concentrate is then upgraded via the correct upgrade module.

Crushing Modules

Precious & Bulk Mineral Hard Rock Plants

Crusher Range Hard Rock Processing Plants

The APT range of hard rock plants is designed to provide complete, low cost process plants for clients who need optimum solutions, with low capital & start-up requirements. For optimal crushing, our hard rock range uses Jaw Crushers (JC) & RD Wet Impactors (RD), with additional processing & recovery modules simply added as required. This means you can easily alter your plant according to new mineral recovery requirements.

Our hard rock plants are designed to take you from feed ore to final marketable product & can include power generation, electrical & water systems. All plants are pre-assembled to reduce on-site installation time & commissioning delays. Larger modules are commissioned & installed by APT

professionals who also provide on-site training.

JCRD Plants Dual Jaw Crusher/Concentrator Plants

The JCRD hard rock plant range is designed for crushing & gravity recovery of minerals in clean, hard rock ore bodies. The plants use a 2-stage Jaw Crushing and RD Wet Impactor crushing circuit, followed by the required concentration modules such as a Knelson or Spirals circuit. The JC/RD combination leads to superior precious mineral liberation due to the combined impact crushing & grinding mechanisms. The RD can provide improved liberation at particle sizes coarser than a ball mill for significantly lower capital and energy requirements.

Firstly, hard rock material is fed into the grizzly, where it is separated to size. It then goes via the conveyor to the JC, where the material is then crushed to a smaller size, & passed again on a conveyor to the RD, where final crushing occurs.

18

Page 22: Modular Mineral Processing Plants

From the RD, crushed material is fed intoa Knelson Gravity Concentrator & the crusher-liberated gold is recovered. The high quality concentrate produced is then run over the shaking table to produce a smeltable product.

As a standalone module, the JCRD crushing plants can be combined with an alluvial RG scrubbing plant to provide a complete solution for both alluvial & hard rock mineral recovery. These are referred to as “Combo” plants.

The APT TriTank Cyanidation Plant Range CIP/CIL/Carousel Modular Gold PlantsAPT Cyanidation Range

APT strive to continuously deliver the latest in mineral processing technology to our customers. As we continue to revolutionize the modular gravity recovery plant industry, APT’s technology development division has been earnestly focusing on the cyanide recovery sector for the past 4 years. Together with Peacocke & Simpson, who pioneered triangular mixing tanks in the early 80’s, APT have now patented, tested and commissioned novel triangular modular cyanide recovery units.

Leaching of gold using cyanide is the most common chemical extraction method. It is used for recovering gold in ores that are not readily treated using gravity & other physical processes. Examples include finely disseminated ores & previously treated tailings material.

The APT TriTank Modular CIP/CIL/Carousel Plants

The APT TriTank is not a cyanidation tank, it is a cyanidation system. With six reaction compartments or sectors condensed into one conventional tank, not only is the footprint smaller, but a whole host of advantages accrue to the user’s benefit. Carbon is easier to move, a sector can be easily bypassed, & most important of all, the mixing efficiency is enhanced.

The TriTank cyanidation system begins with the pre- preparation of the feed into slurry, usually in a special version of an APT RG scrubber. Dry material is accepted into the feeder & the slurrying begins to thoroughly disintegrate any agglomerates & lumps. The RG imparts an inter-particulate scrubbing action to freshen particle surfaces in the process. Organic oversize like grass, roots etc is screened out early on & the slurry is then conditioned in a holding section to remove any spikes in consistency, resulting in a smooth flow of uniform density. Next, the slurry

21

Page 25: Modular Mineral Processing Plants

22

Page 26: Modular Mineral Processing Plants

passes over a fine exclusion screen to remove any oversize that would otherwise contaminate the carbon. Finally, lime is added as a pH modifier to the undersize slurry before it is transported via a pipeline to the APT TriTank’s first sector. Depending upon the reaction kinetics, residence time may necessitate the slurry passing through a number of sectors to complete dissolution, after which the pregnant slurry passes into the carbon containing sectors to effect adsorption. Alternatively, if kinetics are very fast, or if preg-robbers are present, the first slurry sector may contain carbon, as per typical CIL.

One further possibility of the APT TriTank system is that the first few sectors may be used as pre-aerators and even run at elevated velocity to promote rapid oxidation. The APT TriTank’s specialised mixing action allows the use of elevated slurry densities, which may bring benefits in terms of increased capacity and also reagent strength for the same amount of cyanide addition. Carbon is removed counter current to the slurry flow with the added advantage of convenience of operation with all the sectors being adjacent to each other.

“I would have no hesitation in recommending the APT TriTank system to anyone considering slurry cyanidation, it is a paradigm ahead of the old tank system”

Paul Mitchell (Max Mine, Zimbabwe)

24

Page 28: Modular Mineral Processing Plants

Advantages of the TriTank System

* Stacking 6 triangular or sectorial tanks in a hexagon results in 27% less footprint than 6 circular tanks of equivalent volume (1/1 H/D ratio). That impacts not only ground space, but also on foundations, bunds, decking, cable runs & pipe runs, etc. * Common walls between tanks make for 8% less material usage than 6 equivalent tanks. * The use of a central well allows pulp flow to be directed from any sector to any sector, even from stage 1 to stage 6, without long launders. This in turn allows any sector to be taken offline for maintenance, or the plant to be operated in carousel mode. * There is no need for baffles; indeed there is nowhere to put them.

Expanding Upon Your TriTank Development

As with all APT products, the design emphases of the APT TriTank has been upon a compact, high efficiency module that can be easily & rapidly installed. Currently available in either CIP or CIL configuration at up to 515 cubic meters contained volume, the APT TriTank can be supplied as a fully comprehensive system including slurry pre-preparation, carbon elution & smelting. The TriTank complements the rest of the APT range, offering a stand-alone system for tailings retreatment or an addition onto the end of APT’s JCRD crushing-milling-gravity modules. Of particular interest is the application of APT TriTanks for intensive & aggressive cyanidation of bulk sulphide concentrates, as produced in flotation or via Knelson CVD continuous concentrator. Design is also underway upon far larger systems.

25

Page 29: Modular Mineral Processing Plants

“We constructed two TriTanks at our eldorado mine to retreat tailings. The plant operated for 7 years and was the least problematic of any plant i have ever built and worked. We never dug out a tank. After a power cut, usually not more than 30 minutes, the plant was re started and within minutes the pulp was back in

suspension. Agitation was superb resulting in rapid dissolution and effective washing of the carbon off the horizontal carbon screens. In conclusion, the triangular agitator

is far superior to anything that has ever been built.”
