The development of modula® in 1997 has revolutionized platform building in Germany. In the past two decades, more than 500 platforms have been built in several European countries such as Denmark, Luxembourg, England and Austria. The high construction quality is constantly tested and confirmed through external supplier audits by DB AG. The variety of design and construction variants allows on-schedule, individual and need-based new devel-opment or conversion of stopping points as-well-as
alterations to existing platform levels. Over the years, customer requirements have led to further product developments and new types of platforms. With the intention to offer smart solutions, we already engage with our customers at the design phase. Hering offers a wide range of system platforms to meet the different requirements of long-distance traffic, local traffic and city traffic, which are described in more detail on the following pages.

modula® | type 1
modula® type 1 free-standing side-boarding platform The classic among all platform types is a free-standing side-boarding platform, often with a precast foundation. The used TT slab construction provides valuable static advantages and allows for large support widths over 9.0m. In addition, the system consists of only one part and is very easy and quick to assemble with little need for adjustments.
• Flat grounding with pre-fabricated concrete elements, possibly with additional in-situ concrete plate to spread out the load, depending on the building ground
• Deep foundation with bored piles or pre-fabricated or in-situ driving girders with head boards

modula® | type 1b
modula® type 1b – backfilled side-boarding platforms and island platforms The backfilled platform does not require a guardrail and can also be used as an island platform with a conven-tional core filling.
Advantages of both systems: • Element length type 1:
up to 9.30 m continuous, depending on height • Element length type 1b:
up to 8.40 m continuous, depending on height • Platform width:
up to 3.00 m continuous (in exceptions up to 3.50 m) • With 2 x 12 t element weight an ideal truck-load is
achieved• Individual measurements are adjustable for any mode
of transport• Guiding strips for the blind and an optional danger-zone
hatching already integrated

modula® | type 1 shift
modula® type 1 shift – the system for subsequent elevation level changes
In case the final height of the platform is not clear yet at the point of construction, modula® shift offers a very economical solution for free-standing platforms. The elevation level of the platform adjusted with a steel shoe or precast concrete spacer element to guarantee a barrier-free entry.
Top/right: Austria, modula® shift
System advantages:• Can be realised during short track possessions with
a handhydraulic press• Very cost-effective, as all parts can be used again and
there are no disposal costs• If guardrails or other structures are mounted, no
disassembly is needed when elevation changes are made

modula® | light and frame
modula® light and frame a modular platform system with element weights of maximally 4.5 tons which is suitable for mounting with RRE or mobile excavators.
The steel-reinforced flat slab modula® light, which is 16 to 30 cm thick, is typically mounted on the frame system modula® frame (sketch below).Alternatively, foundations composed of precast or in-situ beams or steel girder constructions are also possible. The grounding can be done deep, flat or directly on the platform surface. The system is suitable for both new building projects and rehabilitate existing ones.
Above: Halle, modula® lightRight, middle: modula® light, LondonBottom, right: modula® light, Magdeburg-Rothensee
System advantages:• Deployable during short track possessions and
poorly accessible installation locations• Superstructures, such as guardrails or other platform
structures can be mounted without their own grounding (with anchoring encased in concrete or dowelled joints)
• Guide strips for the blind and an optional danger-zone hatching already integrated
• Mounting with RRE possible

modula® flex
modula® flex The innovative platform system modula® flex is applicable for surface restoration and renovation of conventional platforms with insufficient entry height, as well as retro-fitting guide lines for the blind or danger-zone hatching. Due to the reinforcement with high-performance mats made of carbon or glass fibre, the concrete slap is only 8 cm thick. Earthing is not required.
The system is mounted on a bed of fresh concrete, which covers the existing platform. This eliminates dismantling and waste disposal costs. Assembly can be done easily with a RRE.
The standard plates are for platform widths from 2.50 m to 2.75 m, or 3.00 m (as a complete platform surfacing) or for 1.20 m width (as a complementary plate, with a platform edge, danger-zone hatching and tactile tiles), while the element lengths of the building parts are usually 1.35 m.
Top/right: modula® flex Tapfheim
System advantages :• Light weight of building parts• No earthing necessary• No corrosion of the armouring• Tactile tiles and danger-zone hatching integrated• All track radii possible• Narrow joints (5 mm)• Required modifications (such as manhole covers)
easily possible on site• Considerable weight and resource savings compared
to conventional steel-reinforced concrete
Prerequisites:• Solid, intact platform edge• Frost-proof and stable building ground• Lean concrete grounding with C25/30, XF1, XC2, WF

modula® topping
modula® toppingAs an alternative to the conventional paving stones, Hering developed modula® topping. The construction elements have a thickness of only 8 cm.
This system covers the danger zone starting from the back of the conventional platform edge and can be ap-plied to all platform heights. Naturally, the entire width of the platform (up to 3.00 m) can be covered with modula® topping. The elements are placed on a bed of grid with an appropriate substructure. Tactile tiles and danger-zone hatching can be integrated.
Top/right: modula® topping Erlangen
System advantages:• Very few joints• No damage due to growth of weeds• No risk to stumble (unlike conventional cobble stones)• No corrosion of the armouring• No earthing necessary• After the topping installation, the subsequent platform
surface work can be completed outside the danger zone (this reduces safety costs)
• Level height for modula® topping and paving stones• Integrated tactile tiles and danger zone hatching• Required modifications (e.g. manhole cover) easily
possible on site

modula® temporary
modula® temporary type 6If the train platform is only required for a specified time period, modula® temporary may be a suitable option. Hering has an inventory of temporary platforms, which can be rented. Hering assembles the platform at the desired location and dissembles it at the end of the rental period. The elements are available at a length of 5.00 m and standard widths of 2.00 m to 3.00 m The surface consists of steel grids with an R12 anti-slip resistance.
Specific application: • As a temporary makeshift platform • As a temporary arrangement for large events• In case of an accident it is directly available• As a side-boarding or island platform with stackable
pre-assembled foundations or direct grounding on stable ground with ground spikes
• For temporary platform-raising
System advantages:• Solid, maintenance free, weatherproof• Quick assembly (140 m in approx. 5 shifts)• Simple plug system for connecting railings and
lamp poles• Several entry heights possible• Elements are permeable, no drainage necessary• Environmentally friendly alternative to wooden
platforms, as they are 100% recyclable• EBA licenced system

15 HERING®
Hering does not just manufacture its quality “made in Germany” products, it also delivers all over Europe and optionally assembles the system platforms with expe-rienced personnel.
The delivery of the pre-assembled parts can be done by truck or even by train.
A truck may carry up to 24 tons, which is an economical solution. The dimensions and weight of the elements is already taken into account at the time production.
The assembly of the parts can either be done at the site with mobile cranes when there is no train traffic during the day, or alternatively with track cranes outside normal hours of train operation. The system modula® light and frame as well as flex and topping can be assembled with a RRE or a small lifting device.

Surfaces The production of the dark surface is done with high-grade concrete mixtures including dark granite or basalt. This ensures that the colour will not fade over time. Surfaces with an individual multi-colour design is also possible, if desired.
The surfaces meet or outperform all official requirements for slip and de-icing salt resistance as-well-as colour contrast.
The surfaces can be customized for different countries according to their rules and regulations.
