How to Sign In to your HPL Digital Account 1. Access

http://houstonlibrary.org/downloads, and click on “Overdrive Digital Media Catalog” link.

2. Click “Account” icon 3. On the pop-up windows,

select “Houston Public Library”

4. Then, enter your “Library Card Number” onto the next pop-up windows.

5. Click “Sign In” Notes: Leave the Check Mark on “Remember my login information on this device” if you want your computer to save the login information for next use.

Features Available in your HPL Digital Account Features available in your digital account includes:

• Bookshelf • Holds • Lists • Settings • My Account

1. Bookshelf: you can view all

digital items which you have checked out. You also can download or return your digital items here.

2. Holds: you can view all

digital items which you have held here. You can remove the holds here.

You also can see where you are on the waiting list.

3. Lists: you can view all digital items which you have added to the wish list here.

4. Settings: you can set your default lending periods here.

5. My Account: you can view the total of the digital items that have checkout here.

How to check an OverDrive READ eBook to a Web Browser To check out an OverDrive READ eBook to a Web Browser, you will need: • A Web Browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 10, or Safari) • A Reading Device ( Windows PC, Macs, Smartphones, Android Tablets, iPads, iPhones, or iPod Touch)

1) After Access HPL digital Catalog and Sign In with your digital account (Instruction on Page 2)

2) Searching • If you know the title or author

of an eBook, enter the title or author into the search box. (Use Advanced Search if you have more details about the eBooks and select OverDrive READ as your format)

• If you browse for an eBook using subjects, narrow your results by clicking on OverDrive READ under ‘Format’ from the left hand side of the page.

• On the cover images,

available titles have a dark book icon on the top right corner; Those which are checked out and require a hold have a greyed-out book icon

• When browsing for an

eBook, you can click Available Now link to view only available titles.

3) When you find a desired eBook, click on the cover image of the book. Then, click on Borrow button.

4) Click on Go to Bookshelf

5) Click on Read button.

6) The checked out eBook will appear on your browser. You can navigate your eBook using the Table of contents or Search the full text of your eBook.

Notes: If your desired eBook is not available now, you click on Place a hold button to request the next available copy.

You also can view how many current holds were placed on this specific title.

How to Return an HPL eBook or Cancel a Hold

To return an HPL eBook or cancel a Hold, first you have to access HPL digital Catalog and Sign In with your digital account (Instruction on Page 2)

• To Return a HPL eBook:

• Click on Bookshelf icon on the right hand side of the screen. • Then, click on Return Title button below the eBook that you want to return.

• To Cancel a Hold: • Click on Holds icon on the right hand side of the screen. • Then, click on Remove next to the eBook that you want to cancel the hold.
