From Fabric B, cut: • (4) 8½" squares

From Fabric D, cut: • (7) 5½" x wof outer-border strips

From Fabric E, cut: • (6) 4½" x wof strips; cut into (96) 2½" x 4½"

From Fabric G, cut: • (12) 1½" x wof strips; cut 1 of the strips into

From Fabric H, cut: • (9) 2½" x wof strips; cut into (144) 2½" squares • (28) 1½" x wof strips

Construction1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each fabric H 2½" square. Place a marked square on one end of a fabric E rectangle, right sides together. Sew along the marked line and trim away the corner fabric, leaving a ¼" seam allowance. Repeat to make a total of 48 units and 48 reversed units.

2. Sew one unit and one reversed unit together to make a side unit. Make 48 units.

3. Lay out four fabric H squares, four side units, and one fabric A square as shown. Sew the pieces together into rows and then join the rows to complete the block. Make a total of four blocks using the fabric A squares.

4. Repeat step 3 to make four blocks using the fabric B squares and four blocks using the fabric C squares.

5. Join two fabric H 1½"-wide strips and one fabric G 1½"-wide strip to make a strip set. Make 11 strip sets. Cut the strip sets into (31) 12½"-wide sashing strips.

6. Lay out two fabric F rectangles, two fabric F squares, and one fabric G square as shown. Join the pieces to make a sashing block. The block should measure 3½" square. Make 20 blocks.

7. Join four sashing strips from step 5 and three blocks, beginning with a sashing strip and alternating them as shown in the photo to make a block row. Press the seam allowances toward the sashing strips. Make four rows.

8. Join four sashing blocks from step 6 and three sashing strips from step 5, beginning with a block and alternating them as shown in the photo to make a sashing row. Press the seam allowances toward the sashing strips. Make five rows.

9. Sew the block rows and sashing rows together, beginning with a sashing row and alternating them as shown in the photo. Press the seam allowances toward the sashing rows. The quilt top should measure 48½" x 63½".

7. Join the remaining fabric H 1½"-wide strips end to end. From the pieced strip, cut two 63½" long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt top. Then cut two 50½" strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top for the inner border.

8. Join the fabric D strips end to end. From the pieced strip, cut two 65½" long strips and sew them to the sides of the quilt top. Then cut two 60½" strips and sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt top for the outer border.

11. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing; baste. Quilt as desired. Using the fabric G 2¼"-wide strips, bind the edges to finish.
