Muhammad Junaid NasirINTRODUCTIONIn cellular communication the base transceiver station covers some area and that particular area is called cell. As a mobile move from one base station to another base station then such process is called handoff. The main purpose of handoff is to ensure the continuity of call regardless of the callers' mobility. In cellular communication the handoff is done on the basis of channel capacity in that cell as every cell has a channel capacity and can't afford the calls more than its capacity. For that purpose we have to assign some priorities to the calls being transferred and calls already being performed in that cell. Dynamic allocation of channels is used to reduce the blocking probability.

OBJECTIVETo design a Petri net model for a single cell with neighboring cells for handoff calls. To check the availability of free channel in that cell where the call to be handoff. To do prioritization for handoff calls, here the thresholds for the cell capacity will be defined. To assign queue for handoff calls on the base of channel capacity. So here both the handoff and new calls to be queued in order to allow more calls having access to the system.

METHODOLOGYAbove challenges would be tried to overcome using the Petri net model. Petri net is a graphical and mathematical tool applicable to design many complex models. It is used for modeling the systems that are concurrent, asynchronous, distributed and parallel.PN can be used as a visual communication aid similar to flow charts and block diagram. We will use this for modeling the system.
