Our Directors

Mika TranMika Tran is a Melbourne-based director.

She has made music videos, short films, documentaries, branded content and television.

A visual storyteller with an intuitive interest in the beauty and complexity of the human condition, hernarrative work often explores the emotional landscape of our inner lives – stories that are intimate,lyrical and haunting – with intriguing characters that are authentic to the worlds they inhabit.

She is passionate about the power of storytelling as a way to communicate and create connectionswith each other and is committed to crafting unique and sophisticated visual stories that engagethought and evoke feelings.

Her breadth of experience is diverse & practical, cultivating within her a deep understanding offilmmaking as a collaborative art form, as much as it is a business.

She loves the challenge of bringing an idea or concept to life, considering not only the creativepossibilities of a script or brief, but also the logistical realities and crafting a harmony between the twoin order to achieve the most optimal and inspired outcomes.

Matt HolcombExposure to some of the great works of cinema before he could speak a full sentence may have hadsomething to do with Matt choosing the filmmaking life.

After studying method acting at the Conservatory Theatre Ensemble in Mill Valley, California, andProfessional Screenwriting for Film and Television at RMIT, Matt cut his teeth on corporatedocumentaries and music videos before becoming an award-winning commercials director.

Matt’s capacity for cinematic image-making, combined with his extensive acting, screenwriting anddirecting experience, has allowed him to build a body of commercial work that reveals a strongstorytelling sense and the ability to work closely with actors to elicit credible and nuancedperformances.

Recent directing assignments include an Alfa Romeo TV spot for Cummins&Partners, and a cinema ad(and TV cut-downs) for Federation University Australia via Publicis Worldwide. The FederationUniversity cinema ad formed the centrepiece of a highly successful cross-platform launch campaign,which won the prestigious Henry Hoke Award at the 2014 DMA ECHO Awards in San Diego.

In 2014, Matt was one of three filmmakers awarded production funding from Screen NSW via itsEmerging Filmmakers Fund. Matt’s short film, “Flat Daddy”, stars AFI and AACTA Award-winningactress, Kat Stewart, and will premiere in 2015.

DUODUO is the Directing team of Carey Hollinger and Scott Betty.

Carey was born in New Zealand and has spent the last 10 years travelling extensively throughout theworld shooting different projects for a variety of brands. His strength is his interaction and ease withpeople from all walks of life.

Scott developed a passion for film making at age 14, shooting Super-8 surf films with his friends. Hispassion for cinema lead him to film school at San Francisco State University where he earned a B.A. inCinema. He went on to work in a post house for a year before working in the San FranciscoInternational Film Festival in the programming department. Scott has several years of productionexperience, starting as a camera loader on independent films and then becoming a member of local16. His experience spans from working on commercials, TV and feature films as Director, Art Director,On Set Dresser, Prop Assistant, Grip, and Electrician.

DUO has a passion for film making & storytelling that draws influences from films, art, music, travel,family and life experience. The team’s talent lies in their ability to tell memorable stories withcompelling visuals and authentic performance. For DUO, the story, whatever the media, is all aboutcommunicating in a genuine way that speaks to the heart of the human condition.

Lou QuillLou is a creative, passionate and talented director and filmmaker, crossing seamlessly betweencommercial, branded content and television documentaries.

Amazingly, Lou loves working with real people, kids and animals.

Fascinated by the beauty of the ordinary world around her, Lou adores the stories and narratives ofreal people and talent and documentary-style campaigns.

Having worked as a freelance director for various clients such a Simmonds Homes, Fiat Professionaland Animals Australia.

Lou’s documentaries tend to be social and subculture content with a youth focus.

Carr WuWith over fifteen years professional experience in directing and producing international and nationalhigh budget television commercials and documentaries across the world Carr brings extensiveexperience in advertising design, creative concept and presentation.

His experience in directing and producing many high and low budget productions gives him a greatdeal of experience in managing personnel and budgets within strict time frames.

This is all performed with a natural creative flare, attention to detail and total dedication andcommitment to producing the highest quality work.

In addition to his commercial work, Carr is currently developing an independent feature filmscreenplay for future production.

Bernie RyanAs a director with well over twenty years experience, Bernie has worked across all genres fromcommercials to documentary, live events to long-form and corporate to broadcast. His work hastaken him all over the globe from war zones to world cups and he has always embraced theopportunity to tell striking visually stunning stories wherever they can be found.

His work is characterised by a strong photographic quality, with close attention to composition,typography & editing.

Outstanding professionalism, speed, efficiency and a genuine awareness of the clients requirements,Bernie brings his wonderful ‘eye’ and artistic talent to bear on whatever he shoots.

Katrina FlemingKatrina Fleming is a storyteller.

A Producer, Writer and Director of filmed content, with a background in live theatre, musicals, andstand up comedy, before turning to Film and Television to work on short films, corporate and webcontent and TV and cinema commercials.

As a director, she loves working with actors and has a love of highly stylised content with an emphasison production design.

She works in Australia, Singapore and North America on a regular basis.

She is also known for producing feature film, Canopy, an art house war drama which had it’s worldpremiere at Toronto International Film Festival, was selected for Rotterdam, and many other festivals,winning 3 awards, and critical acclaim.

Brett D’SouzaBrett is devoted to the art of telling stories.

A Melbourne based filmmaker with a background in graphic design he spent over 6 years in Londonworking as a motion designer before finding his true passion in directing.

His background in design gives his work a strong visual design aesthetic as well as a specific andfocused attention to detail. He is intrinsically interested in every element of production from story toperformance, framing, styling and post.

Brett has a slate of tvc’s, films, music videos and content under his belt, covering everything fromfashion to healthcare, recycling to bowling alleys.

Recently Brett has been getting noticed for his skill at directing comedy, he prides himself on is abilityto get the best out of actors and adding value to anything that he puts his name to.

Alistair MarksAlistair Marks has storytelling in his blood. Even before learning to read and write, he was entertainingfamily with his stories. After commencing studies in performing arts, he moved into studyingproduction at VCA (foundations) and Swinburne (Bachelor of Film and TV). His final film for graduation,SHOTGUN! starred iconic Australian actors Samuel Johnson, Steve Bisley and Rachel Ward. At just 22,Alistair’s natural ability to create, capture, and share stories was clear – and SHOTGUN! went on to wininternational awards and acclaim.

Following graduation, Alistair built his practical and vocational skills with crew work in Melbourne,cutting his teeth in the art department on various local and international projects. He also continuedto work on his own projects via LateNite Films. Just as Alistair’s promising portfolio of work was set totake him to New York City, he got a call from friend and colleague, Samuel Johnson. Samuel offeredhim the opportunity of a lifetime – to follow him, camera in tow, around Australia on his Love YourSister unicycle quest. Since wrapping the Love Your Sister project, Alistair has worked with MTVAustralia, Nickelodeon, The Project and many regional news broadcasters around the country.

Alistair has recently completed work on his first music video (to be released Oct 2014) and is in pre-production for a TV pilot Sweatshop, which he is producing with Samuel Johnson.

Thomas ElliottMeet Moda’s Executive Producer – Thomas Elliott.

Thomas studied many years ago at the prestigious VCA school of film and television.

After leaving film school Thomas began directing music videos but soon switched to commercials afterdiscovering the catering was vastly superior.

Armed with an extensive skill set that covers an enviable range from writing punchy persuasive copy tocreative direction, on set directing of talent, cinematography, design and post-production, Thomas hasa passion for rich imagery and stylish design, his fresh and unique visual style has won acclaim fromagencies, production companies and clients alike.

As a creative leader with over 15 years of experience within the Film and Television industry, he hasenjoyed a long track record of consistently delivering on time and budget high end creative solutionsacross all mediums, including TV, Film and all Digital channels (Web, Mobile, Social Etc).

He has managed projects on the ground across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe for agencies,production companies and brands big and small.
