T r a D e F a i r s e v e n T s c o n g r e s s e s 3 / 1 1 – w w w . m o c – m u n i c h . c o m event center
uniquely versat i le.
“Once again, the event center was
booked to capacity for the autumn edi-
tion of our fabric fair MUNICH FABRIC
START,” reports a delighted Wolfgang
Klinder, Co-founder and Managing Direc-
tor of MUNICH FABRIC START Exhibitions
GmbH, underscoring “that the fair has
been able to position itself so success-
fully over the past few years because we
were able to grow so well at the M,O,C,”
It’s the kind of success that can be meas-
ured on the basis of key statistics. When
the fair celebrated its premiere in the
autumn of 1996, just less than 80 exhibi-
tors presented their creations there. When
it opened its doors from September 6 – 8
of this year, for the first time ever more
than 800 well-known international fabric
and accessory manufacturers and agen-
cies set a sensational new record for the
2012/2013 autumn/winter season.
From Klinder’s point of view, MUNICH
FABRIC START’s model for success is
based on several pillars: “The fact that it
is held early in the season before the major
shows in Milan and Paris has always met
with a positive response in the industry.
In addition, Munich and the M,O,C, are a
very popular venue among exhibitors and
visitors alike. The short distances at the
M,O,C, and the showroom concept con-
tribute considerably to MUNICH FABRIC
START’s special character as a working
exhibition.”
Attractive range of exhibitsThe approximately 800 exhibitors at
MUNICH FABRIC START – including sev-
eral Asian companies – presented an
extremely high-quality, international range
of exhibits in Munich.
17,700 trade visitors travelled to Munich to
gather information about industry topics
and trends. A hot new trend at MUNICH
FABRIC START Autumn/Winter 12/13 is
“DETAILORING” – an indication that fash-
ion is on the verge of a paradigm change
because, next winter, the enormous
design potential that fabrics and acces-
sories have to offer will be upstaging other
design factors such as form and cut.
The next MUNICH FABRIC START takes
place at the M,O,C, from Jan. 31 – Feb. 2,
2012. www.munichfabricstart.com

The concept is unique in Europe: since the
beginning of 2011, Messe München has
been marketing its three locations – i.e.
the trade-fair center, the International Con-
gress Center Munich (ICM) and the M,O,C,
Event Center – strategically from a single
source.
SIGS DATACOM, a leading supplier of
continuing-education solutions in the
field of software programming and data
warehousing, is a very successful refer-
ence customer. The organizer of specialty
events has been a regular customer at the
ICM with the IT conference OOP (Objective
Oriented Programming) since 1999. SIGS
DATACOM has had its rapidly growing
TDWI Conference – the industry gathering
for business intelligence and data-ware-
housing professionals from throughout
Europe – positioned at the M,O,C, since
the middle of this year.
Project Director Lars Tams consciously
relies on Messe München’s innovative
location portfolio: “When we started our
search for a new venue for the TDWI Con-
ference in 2010, the first thing we did was
contact our longtime partners at the ICM
h o T e L s n e a r T h e m , o , c , F irst zero-energy hotel in munich opens
and then, together with teams from both
venues, we developed an optimum facility-
utilization and event concept.”
Successful M,O,C, premiereThe premiere of the TDWI Conference at
the M,O,C, from June 6 – 8 was a com-
plete success from the very beginning,”
said Tams. The SIGS DATACOM Project
Director went on to explain that, with 50
exhibitors and more than 600 participants
from 21 countries, the TDWI Conference
immediately evolved from a specialty exhi-
bition to the country’s leading trade fair at
its new venue.
“Over the next three years, we want to con-
tinue growing and, above all, to strengthen
our position on the European market,”
Tams continued. “The M,O,C, is the perfect
place to do so. Both the modern atmos-
phere of the M,O,C, which is flooded with
light, and the professional service at the
fair were extremely well received among
exhibitors and participants of the TDWI
Conference alike.”
The next TDWI Conference is being held at
the M,O,C, again from June 18 – 20, 2012

one customer – Two locations
Located on Utzschneiderstrasse in the
immediate vicinity of the Viktualienmarkt,
Hotel Campo dei Fiori, Munich’s first
zero-energy hotel, opens in the autumn of
2011.
The hotel features 43 hotel rooms and ser-
viced apartments and was designed so
that the energy needed for heating, cool-
ing and hot water is almost completely
self-generated by renewable sources.
At the same time, innovative technology
gives guests added comfort and conveni-
ence.
Thanks to its extremely well insulated
building shell, triple-glazed windows and
large rooftop solar system – rooms are
heated and cooled by running warm and
cold water through the ceilings and floors –
the hotel is extremely energy efficient.

On July 16, the BDHN (Association of Ger-
man Alternative Practitioners) held a super-
lative congress. A total of 196 exhibitors in
the biology/pharmaceuticals and medical
technology sectors presented tried-and-
tested solutions as well as absolute inno-
vations to market participants: An exten-
sive range of topics awaited the 1,600
visitors. They covered everything from
equipment manufacturers, pharma prod-
ucts, cosmetics and food supplements to
building biologists, insurance companies
and book stands with alternative-medicine
books. The broad-based lecture program
also covered nearly all of the main treat-
ments provided by alternative practitioners.
The congress’ appeal was also reflected
by the large share of international visitors
and exhibitors: Besides alternative practi-
tioners from throughout Germany, several
participants from other European countries
such as the Netherlands, Austria, Switzer-
land and Spain were also on hand.

It was that time again in August: The annual
job fair TALENTS opened its gates at the
M,O,C, for job applicants and companies
again from August 24 – 25, 2011.
Some 1,600 job candidates arrived in
northern Munich to contact their dream
employers. 400 people representing 58
reputable companies were on hand to
hold job interviews that were scheduled
in advance. The newest participants on
the company side included companies
that applicants found very appealing such
as Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon and
Microsoft.
TALENTS is the largest job fair in the coun-
try that uses pre-selection: Academics with
up to five years of professional experience
can register online or send the organizer
a brief resume by e-mail. The generally
positive business climate and the good

economy also contributed to the fair’s suc-
cess. Managing Director Carsten Buch-
berger was positive in summing up the
fair as follows: “After the market rebound
of 2010, one could describe this year as
a remarkable success. Recruitment figures
are stable in the double-digit range, and
the focus remains on consulting and finan-
cial-service companies.” In other words,

The annual meeting of the Association of
Bavarian Ophthalmologists, which was
attended by more than 380 specialists
from throughout Bavaria, was held at the
M,O,C, on July 15 – 16. The meeting fea-
tured a wide range of technical lectures
from 60 speakers, all of which met with a
great deal of interest.
Besides updates on all areas of ophthal-
mology, this year’s event revolved around
the topic of immunology. The event was
also a perfect platform for practicing phy-
sicians to gather comprehensive infor-
mation about the latest developments in
ophthalmology, exchange information with
colleagues and gather information about
political issues that pertain to the profes-
sion. The scientific congress program was
rounded out by an exclusive evening event.
Participants rang out the congress, which
was successful in every way, at an evening
social event in the beautiful atmosphere of
the LENBACH Restaurant.

The Tech Data Forum is an industry gather-
ing for ICT specialists in the autumn. Due
to the optimum facilities and large exhibi-
tion areas at the M,O,C, the 2011 event
is being held there for the first time ever.
On October 13, some 2,500 specialists
from the ICT industry will come together
for the 21st time to talk shop in relaxed
surroundings, make new contacts and
gather in-depth information about industry
trends.
In keeping with the latest trends, one focal
point of the forum will be cloud comput-
ing. Other important topics include man-
aged print services, digital signage, digi-
tal education, data centers, mobility and
Messe München is positioning a new
event for the ICT industry in the autumn,
i.e. Communication World. The congress
and trade fair, which takes place at the
M,O,C, in Munich on October 11 and 12,
2011, focuses on mobile strategies and
technologies, mobile solutions for employ-
ees, mobile solutions for addressing cus-
tomers and mobile solutions for use in
specific branches of industry. Among
other things, exhibits will be presented
by sponsors such as Alcatel-Lucent,
Extricom, F-Secure, IBM, Materna, Ora-
cle, Qualcomm, Siemens Enterprise
Communication, Symantec Syskoplan,
Telefónica Germany, T-Systems and Voda-
fone D2.
Communication World is currently the
only exhibition platform with a clear B2B
focus that gives small and medium-sized
enterprises and other companies a foun-
dation for planning their investments in
mobile IT solutions. It addresses deci-
sion-makers and IT executives as well as
managing directors of cities and munici-
palities in the German-speaking region.

tech-data services. The Tech Data Forum
is the in-house exhibition of Tech Data, one
of the world’s largest retailers of technol-
ogy products.
As one of the three largest industry events
for the entire ICT distribution sector, for
visitors the forum is an extremely attractive
combination of a specialty exhibition, a
lecture program and an evening event. The
After Forum Party under the glass ceilings
of the Atrium at the M,O,C, promises to be
a special highlight. www.techdata.de
At oils+fats 2011, the world’s only trade
fair for the technology and trade of veg-
etable oils and animal fats to be held at
the M,O,C, from October 5 – 7, some 70
exhibitors will present the latest trends and
technologies – a highlight for an industry
that otherwise tends to meet at scientific
conferences.
“As the world’s only trade fair for this
industry, oils+fats has a very clear profile,”
explains Petra Westphal, the responsible
Exhibition Director at Messe München
communication world returning to munich
GmbH. “The fair focuses on concrete
technological solutions for manufacturing,
processing and commerce. As a result, it
primarily addresses technical specialists
in all branches of this industry through-
out Europe. Given its business character,
oils+fats distinguishes itself considerably
from all of the other predominantly scien-
tifically oriented congresses.”
This compact three-day event gives exhibi-
tors a chance to showcase systems, com-
ponents and auxiliary materials for the
production and processing of edible oils,
fats and lubricants – in practice-oriented
presentations showing them in actual use.
The organizer expects 1,300 visitors from
approximately 60 countries
