The Good News...?
Follow these 7 Guidelines to Get More Attention from Reviewers and Make Your
App Famous
The Good News...?
1. Start Early
1. Start Early
Lock your launch date early
Don’t wait for code complete to contact reviewers
Start PR at least 1 month before launch
2. Build Relationships
2. Build Relationships
Follow your favorite reviewers on Twitter
Leave genuine comments on articles
Get out to conferences and in-person events
Use your network for introductions
Always Try to Build Relationships First, but, if
You Do Need to Start a Conversation Via Email...
Simple, short emails work best You have 1-2 sentences to «hook» the reviewer Use headings to break the email into sections while describing your app (formatting helps!) Include links to the app stores, trailer, visuals, etc.
Never take a «shotgun» approach – reviewers hate template emails Come up with unique angles for each site based on their readers’ needs If writing to a specific person – be flattering, tell them you love and follow their work (you already do... right?) Give something special – preview build, exclusives, promo codes
4. Get Creative
Don’t Limit Yourself to Email... Try Video
Messages, Postcards, Promo Art
Warning: Avoid Sending Outright Gifts to Reviewers Don’t Put Anyone in an Awkward Position
5. Use Pull Mechanisms
Create Excitement: Build a Community on FB, Ask Your Fans for Personal Reviews, Use Social Proof in Emails
to Reviewers
6. Think Beyond Traditional Review Sites
6. Think Beyond Traditional Review Sites
Look for non-app sites that target your audience
They can be easier to reach and still have a big following
Join relevant social media communities
Build your social network and then use it!
7. Be Targeted
Don’t Kill Yourself Trying to Contact 100’s of Sites. Pick the Top 20-30 that Matter
and Know them Well.
