Moana: Art Lesson Objective: To create a piece of Polynesian Art Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Watch Moana, paying particular attention to the art work. You will spot this on clothes, tattoos, and canvases. Polynesian Art makes use of pattern, such as those in Resource 1. Fill in the remaining strips with your own pattern. Sketch in pencil first, and then fill in your designs with a black pen, and a pen of another colour. Polynesian Art often features animals. These are also depicted using patterns, rather than a realistic interpretation (see Resource 2). Use the animal outlines in Resource 3 to create your own Polynesian Animal. Now, you need to combine both your animal and your pattern to create a finished piece of artwork. Have a look at Resource 4 for inspiration - it is taken from Moana. You might want to work on a coloured piece of paper, or paint your background first.
