MCCANTS MIDDLE SCHOOL, AN ANDERSON TRADITION SINCE 1935 ISSUE #2

Good afternoon!

We had a great first week of school and excited to get back to learning this week!

Listed below you will find bulleted information about upcoming activities and information that will help you navigate through our schedule! If we can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to let us know!

Kelly P. Elrod

Principal Drop Off and Arrival

Buses have been learning their routes this week and working out the kinks in the system. It will move faster in a week or so. Please be patient as this is the beginning of a new year and students are moving all over the district to their destination. Buses that arrive

late to school will not activate a “tardy” for your student.

Car rider lanes are moving great! We have dismissal down to almost completion by 3:48! Traffic at that time is no longer on Marchbanks! Thank you to our teaching staff for parking in the lots away from the road on Marchbanks so we may use the lane

closest to the curb during our wait time.

In the morning, please do not jump across lanes of traffic. Pull all the way up and your child may use the exit lanes of traffic to walk to the crossing with a staff member. The exception to this is with 8th grade. There is only two lanes of traffic and the second lane is

the exit lane!

In the afternoon, if your child is walking to where you are parked on the side of Cornelia, please be sure that they walk with the crosswalks! NO PARKING in the bowl area or where the swim center used to be! It is unsafe and unsupervised!

To help with our 8th grade traffic, we are going to open up the single lane closest to Cornelia. You may pull in this lane if the 8th grade lane is full. Please remember that the other lane in this pattern is EXIT only-No Waiting!

Attendance

This year you will notice a change in the way attendance is taken in Powerschool. Your child will

be counted present in each class for tracking purposes and absences. To be counted present for

the day and perfect attendance purposes, your child will have to be at school for at least 4 hours!

Smile! It’s Picture Day!

Friday, September 1st we will be taking pictures for our yearbook

and update records. Your student has brought home

information about purchasing pictures.

Chromebook Distribution!

We will be distributing Chromebooks on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Your 6th grader will be given their Chromebook and a bag for carrying. This bag is theirs to keep. If you take good care of it, it will last until you graduate from T.L.Hanna!

(7th and 8th graders)

You need to bring your Chromebook case with you. If you do not bring it with you to receive your Chromebook, it will deter you from receiving it. We must have the bag to reissue you a device.

*If you owe fees, you must clear up the charges or you will not be allowed to take your device home! If

you never returned your book, you will not be allowed to use a Chromebook this school year until all bills have been paid in full. PLEASE BRING EXACT AMOUNT FOR FEES/DAMAGES! If you wish to purchase insurance on the device, you may still do so until 9/18!
