FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 29th minute. After skipping past Union defender Jordan Harvey, Fabian Castillo sent a rolling cross to a waiting Brek Shea, who tapped in from almost on the goal line.

The lead was doubled two minutes before the break. Jackson darted down the right flank and floated in a cross to Castillo between defenders, and he flicked his header past Mondragón.

FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman made no changes to the team that knocked off Toronto FC 1-0 at Pizza Hut Park.

TEAM NEWS Including the game in Vancouver when Ferreira was injured, FC Dallas are unbeaten in five games (4-0-1). “Our strategy going into the game was to try to put their defense under pressure with the speed of (Marvin)

Chavez and (Fabian) Castillo, and I think that caused them a lot of problems,” Hyndman said. “They gave us

MLS GAME INFORMATION

some problems earlier in the game, the first 20 minutes, because we were getting some mismatches in the midfield, but we were able to survive and then we were able to pick up a couple of goals in the first half. “

Colombian youth international Castillo scored his second goal since playmaker David Ferreira went down with a fractured ankle; Castillo also had an assist in the 2-0 win against Philadelphia.

“He is definitely a difference-maker for us at this point in time,” Schellas Hyndman said. “I think what we will see from Fabián is just continued growth in his play.”

Castillo has two goals and two assists since being inserted into the starting lineup April 2 vs. Columbus, where he’s been ever since.

“I feel comfortable,” Castillo said. “I am playing forward and things are going well and I hope that things continue to go well. Little by little, the team is improving. We are now getting points and we have had many good games.”

Days after signing a long-term contract extension with the club, Brek Shea scored his third goal of the season. "You're always happy when you score," said Shea. "I shouldn't get credit. I just had to be in the right place at

the right time." FC Dallas have now held opponents scoreless for 309 minutes, the third-longest such streak in MLS this

season. It was a fourth shutout on the season for Kevin Hartman, tied for the league lead with three other ‘keepers.

“We did a good job covering one another. People have stepped up and blocked shots. One save that I thought I was really forced to save was shot from 25 feet out and I held on to it, besides that I didn’t have a ton to do," Hartman said.

A year ago, FC Dallas had just two wins in their opening 10 matches before reeling off an 18-game unbeaten run. Did another start earlier this year, with just one win in the first five games – FC Dallas is undefeated since.

“It’s interesting because last year, we had that great fun after our first 10 games. Now I think we are further ahead than where we were last year at this time, but also realizing that we have Real Salt Lake coming in, going to Seattle, going to Houston in a span of two weeks, so it's going to be tough," Hyndman said.

REAL SALT LAKE Real Salt Lake played to their first tie in 2011, reaching a scoreless result with the Houston Dynamo on Saturday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium. RSL is now sitting in third place in the Western Conference with 16 points from 7 matches. LAST MATCH

Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall made just one save. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando was called upon to make three saves, including a pair on Dynamo rookie Will Bruin, both coming in short order just after the hour mark.

RSL coach Jason Kreis made two changes to the side that, defeated Chivas USA 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Collen Warner came into the midfield for the injured Javier Morales and Arturo Alvarez came into to the lineup for Fabian Espindola.

REAL SALT LAKE (4-3-1-2): Nick Rimando - Robbie Russell, Jamison Olave, Nat Borchers, Chris Wingert, Ned Grabavoy, Kyle Beckerman, Will Johnson (Nelson Gonzalez 85) - Collen Warner (Andy Williams 60) - Arturo Alvarez (Jean Alexandre 74), Alvaro Saborio.

TEAM NEWS RSL was shutout for the second time in three games. While they had 13 attempts at goal, only one was on

target, and that not until the 77th minute. “We’re going to have to answer questions about who’s going to be the integral figure creating chances,” Real

coach Jason Kreis said. “Can other guys get a little more involved and precise in the attacking third? That’s just something that’s going to take time.”

In their first game without injured playmaker Javier Morales, Collen Warner was given the attacking midfield role.

"He didn't put the flag in the ground and say this position is mine, that's for sure," said Kreis. "We're not walking out of here saying the job's his and we're not walking out of here saying the job isn't his."

The start was the third of the season for Warner, his first since a 45-minute outing against Portland on April 30 when he played a wide midfield role.

"They've always believed in me as a player, it gives you an extra bit of confidence to know that even though as a young player they're willing to throw you out there in games that really matter," said Warner.

Real have five defensive shutouts in seven league games this year. “The back four in particular made a lot of really important tackles for us (against Houston),” Kreis said. “I don’t think that collectively we defended quite as well. Certainly in the second half I saw quite a few of our players run out of gas.”

For RSL, it also extended their MLS-record home-unbeaten streak in regular season play to 29 games (20-0-9). After the trip to Dallas, they again return home for back-to-back games at Rio Tinto Stadium; the Houston match was also the second of consecutive home games.

“I didn’t think we particularly dealt with a lot of things they did very well,” said defender Nat Borchers. “I like a game where [goalkeeper Nick Rimando] doesn’t have too much to do. He had a little bit too much to do in the second half.”

PRIDE OF VERDIGRIS, OKLAHOMA FC Dallas defender Zach Loyd earned his first career assist against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, March 19. Displaying some nice moves down the left flank, Loyd beat one defender, cut to the outside around a second defender and delivered a sharp pass in to the feet of Milton Rodriguez, who finished neatly to the back post. Loyd picked up his second assist of the season on Brek Shea’s game‐winning goal against LA on May 1.  BEST IN THE WEST In recent years, Major League Soccer’s Western Conference has become dominant. Western Conference teams have represented both MLS Cup finalists in 2009 and 2010. The LA Galaxy fell, 5‐4 to Real Salt Lake in the 2009 finale and FC Dallas lost a 2‐1 decision to the Colorado Rapids in 2010. But who has been the top team in the west recently? Since the start of playoffs in 2010, FC Dallas’ record against those three teams is 4‐1‐1.   CAPTAIN DANIEL HERNANDEZ Since Captain Daniel Hernandez joined FCD on Sept. 12, 2009, Dallas has a regular season record of 19‐8‐14 (13‐2‐5 @ Pizza Hut Park, 2‐1‐1 in MLS Playoffs). An 11‐year MLS veteran, Hernandez has played for five MLS teams including Dallas, LA, Tampa Bay, New England and Red Bull New York. Playing the full 90 minutes against Philadelphia on July 31, Hernandez eclipsed the 10,000 minute mark in MLS. His current total is 11,399 or 125

PROBABLE STARTERS 5/22 @ DALLAS

RSL (4-4-2 diamond, R L): GK: Rimando

DF: Russell, Olave, Borchers, Wingert; MF: Beckerman; Grabavoy, Johnson, Williams;

FW: Espíndola, Saborío

BRIEF RESPITE FROM RSL HOMESTAND: On a

rare Sunday appearance, Real Salt Lake visits Pizza Hut Park outside of Dallas, where RSL is 0-9-0 all-time in eight reg. season games and last year‟s MLS Cup Playoff Semifinal Leg One, amazingly never even earning a point in North Texas … In those nine games, Dallas has outscored RSL by a 20-6 aggregate tally, with 17 of Dallas‟ 20 goals scored in either the first 15 minutes (8) or the last quarter-hour (9) goals … RSL sits one point behind 2

nd-place Dallas despite

three games in hand and hopes to replicate the success of Schellas Hyndman‟s team in the wake of injury to 2010 MLS MVP David Ferreira, as Dallas has gone 4-0-1 in its five games without its playmaker … RSL is 1-0-1 since Javier Morales was cut down in the first half on May 7 vs. Chivas … Both teams are extremely stingy defensively, Dallas with a 499-minute shutout streak and RSL allowing just 2 goals in 7 games this season … Following this week‟s game at Dallas, RSL returns home to complete a four-games-out-of-five homestand with Seattle Sounders FC (Sat., May 28) and the inaugural visit of Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sat., June 4 … Sunday’s game between RSL and Dallas kicks off at 5:00 p.m. MT and will air live statewide on KMYU 2.2 / Comcast 22 / Dish 12 and also on RSL‟s official radio partners – ESPN 700 Sports Radio and ESPN Deportes 1600 AM / Juan 106.1 FM …

RSL INJURY REPORT (as of 5/17/11)

OUT: MF Javier Morales (L ankle fracture dislocation)

DOUBTFUL: n/a

QUESTIONABLE: FW Paulo Jr. (L hamstring strain); FW Fabian Espindola (L back muscle spasms)

PROBABLE: FW Alvaro Saborio (R knee swelling)

VICTORY … ERR, EQUALITY GOLD KITS?: RSL

will wear its “Victory Gold” 3rd

kits for the fourth time in team history, earning road draws on the trio of previous occasions … Last year, RSL drew 1-1 @KC and @PHI in a pair of August games in the Real Gold uniforms, while in this season‟s lone display of sartorial splendor, Jason Kreis‟ team drew 2-2 at Monterrey in the first leg of the 2010/11 CONCACAF Final …

SCORELESS DRAW OPENS POST-JAVI STINT: In

the first leg of RSL‟s “Texas Two-Step” vs. HOU and at DAL, Head Coach Jason Kreis‟ team suffered through the 19

th scoreless draw in team history, tying the Dynamo 0-0

despite a 13-7 shots advantage and 60% possession edge … The draw extended RSL’s home unbeaten streak in MLS play to 29 games, the last loss at Rio Tinto Stadium coming more than two years ago, back on May 16, 2009 in an 0-2 loss vs. Kansas City …

CLEAN SHEET CRAZINESS FOR RSL: RSL GK

Nick Rimando recorded his 78th career shutout, 42 of

which have now come in the RSL Claret-and-Cobalt … Rimando has four of RSL‟s five clean sheets this MLS season (Reynish, April 9 @ NE) … Rimando also had two shutouts in CONCACAF play earlier this year at Columbus and vs. Saprissa … Rimando brings a 248-minute shutout streak into Dallas this weekend …

Page 23: MLSGameGuide_052211_DALvRSL.pdf

REAL SALT LAKE @ FC DALLAS – SUNDAY, MAY 22, 2011

FC DALLAS STREAK-SNAPPERS: During last

year‟s MLS Cup title defense, RSL dropped just two of its last 26 league games after May 1, posting a mark of 14-2-10 and outscoring opponents 39-14 – with the lone losses both coming at Dallas on July 17 and Oct. 30 … Prior to the first DAL loss, RSL was enjoying a 10-game unbeaten streak in MLS play, while another streak – 14 games without a loss – was snapped in Leg 1 of the West Semifinal Series at Dallas …

LAST TIME OUT IN FRISCO: The last time these two

teams met in Texas, FW Fabian Espindola set up RSL with a dream start in the first leg of the 2010 MLS Cup Playoff Western Conference Semifinals, scoring on a curling blast in the 7

th minute …

But victory was not in the cards, as RSL suffered its sixth 1-2 loss at Pizza Hut Park in nine all-time attempts, with Dallas scoring goals at the death in each half to take the one-goal aggregate lead … Dallas sub Eric Avila scored a stunning goal in the 88

th

minute to give the home side a dramatic win, as Avila found the back of the net on his first touch barely a minute after coming on … After Espindola‟s curling blast inside the left post from the edge of the area set up RSL early, it was former RSL striker and nemesis Jeff Cunningham skipping through a trio of RSL defenders in the penalty area and hammering a shot under Rimando … Each team was left a man down with a six-minute span in the second half, RSL's Javier Morales sent off with a second caution, and FCD's Atiba Harris after a high elbow in a midfield challenge … That set the stage for Avila, who picked up the ball in midfield and after a long run let fly with a searing drive from outside the box for the Dallas win …

METROPLEX MISERY FOR RSL: That disappointing

postseason loss might be the best-ever RSL performance in Dallas, however … Despite the Morales ejection, RSL remembers Dallas for late heroics (Dominic Oduro), fantastic bombs from distance (Chris Gbandi, Arturo Alvarez) and a consolation penalty kick (Freddy Adu) … The list of all-time results:

KREIS BURNED UP THE DALLAS NETS : RSL

Head Coach Jason Kreis is FC Dallas‟ all-time leader in every significant scoring and service category, leading RSL against the team for which he played 247 games from 1996-2004 and won the League‟s 1999 MVP award, becoming the first-ever American-born player to do so … RSL Assistant Coach Jeff Cassar also played and coached for Dallas at various stints between 1996-2007, while RSL GM Garth Lagerwey joined Kreis and Cassar for Dallas‟ lone championship – the 1997 U.S. Open Cup side … RSL Assistant Coach Miles Joseph also played in Dallas during the 2001 MLS season …

RSL’s BIG D CONNECTIONS: While Kreis‟ exploits in

the old Dallas Burn black-and-red are well-documented, the new-era FC Dallas “Hoops” have shed ¾ of their once-decidedly RSL feel as the organization‟s inaugural head coach, John Ellinger, is Dallas‟ top assistant … Ellinger posted a 15-37-16 record from 2005-07 in Salt Lake, while Cunningham scored 19 goals and added 11 assists in 38 games in 2006-07, becoming the only RSL player to earn MLS Best XI honors for his 16-goal 2006 campaign … Harris posted 4 goals and 2 assists in 43 games for RSL from 2006-07 … Last year, former RSL forwards Jeff Cunningham and Atiba Harris regularly started for Dallas, but both moved on this past offseason … Injured DF Kyle Davies also enjoyed a brief membership with RSL prior to being traded to Dallas last year, and waived by the “Hoops” earlier this month …

RSL DOWNS 9-MAN CHIVAS WITHOUT JAVI:

Two weeks ago, Real Salt Lake improved its league-leading record to 5-1-0 with a simultaneously dramatic and heartbreaking 1-0 victory over 2005 expansion brethren CD Chivas USA … RSL broke its 267-minute streak without a goal in combined CCL/MLS competition when MF Will Johnson slammed home a ball on the line in the 87

th minute (assists to MF Collen Warner and DF

Nat Borchers) in a game marred by the 38th-minute

broken ankle suffered by team MVP Javier Morales due to a tackle from behind … RSL out-shot Chivas 17-3 overall (8-1 on goal) and controlled 80% of the possession in the 2

nd half, but

was nearly unable to break down the nine “Goats” in the box, as the Marcos Mondiani red card for the tackle on Morales was the 2

nd of the first half for Chivas, which also

saw DF Andrew Boyens ejected after his 2nd

cautionable takedown of RSL FW Alvaro Saborio … With the win, RSL improved to 4-1-2 at Rio Tinto Stadium against Chivas USA, outscoring the “Goats” 7-1 … Johnson’s game-saving goal was his first MLS tally in more than a calendar year (although the Canadian international had 3 goals in 6 CCL group games in 2010) … Borchers’ assist was his first in 90 MLS regular-season games and first at Rio Tinto Stadium, his last helper coming on 4/12/08 in a 4-0 W over DC …

MORALES A MARKED MAN IN MLS: Since arriving

in MLS back in August of 2007, the Argentine playmaker Javier Morales has played 116 games for RSL (93 MLS regular-season, 8 playoff, 3 Open Cup, 12 CCL) … During that time, he has been the most-fouled player in the League (reg. season only), an indicator of his role in RSL‟s possession game as well as the target on his back by opposing defenses … The list:

Most Fouls Suffered since 8/29/2007:

Player FS

Javier Morales - RSL 211

Alejandro Moreno - CLB 199

Eddie Gaven - CLB 189

Robbie Rogers - CLB 172

ALL-TIME RESULTS, WITHOUT JAVIER: Since the

talismanic Argentine Javier Morales‟ arrival on the Wasatch Front, RSL has played 27 MLS regular-season/playoff, CCL or Open Cup games without its playmaker, posting an 11-8-8 overall mark … Head Coach Jason Kreis‟ team has gone 8-7-6 in MLS reg. season play, 0-0-1 Playoff, 3-0-0 in CONCACAF and 0-1-1 in Open Cup sans Javi … Since the beginning of the 2009 season, that record is 9-5-6, including a surprising ability to score 2+ goals in 10 of those 20 games without Javier … The breakdown:

HOME COOKING, COMIN’ RIGHT UP: RSL will

utilize a run of four MLS contests out of five that will be played at the team’s Rio Tinto Stadium home to get used to a summer without Morales, hoping to extend the club‟s 29-game MLS streak … In the 28 days from May 7 – June 4, RSL hosts Chivas (1-0 W), Houston (0-0 T), Seattle and Vancouver, a home stretch broken only by this week‟s travel to Dallas … On June 8/11, RSL travels to Columbus and Philadelphia in a Wed/Sat East Coast run, then returns to Rio Tinto Stadium on June 18 vs. D.C. United before a midweek encounter at Chicago on June 22 … Then Rio Tinto Stadium again sees a massive stretch of home games, as RSL hosts six of its 8 MLS games from June 25 to August 6 on the Wasatch Front … Visitors in that period include Toronto, New England, Dallas, San Jose, Columbus and New York … On top of that stretch of 11 of 17 MLS games at home in May/June/July and the first week of August, RSL has the potential to host two additional games in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tourney, on June 28 and July 12 …

SEEING RED, BUT TO LITTLE ADVANTAGE:

Back on May 7, Real Salt Lake saw an opponent hit with multiple red cards for the third time in the team’s 190-game MLS regular-season history, with the 65-minute span with at least a one-man advantage the longest in club annals … For an incredible amount of 49 minutes, RSL enjoyed a TWO-MAN advantage over Chivas USA, playing 11-v-9 in deadlocked fashion prior to Will Johnson’s victory-clinching goal in the 87

th minute … On only one

prior occasion – Oct. 18, 2008, in the 2nd

-ever game at Rio Tinto Stadium – had RSL enjoyed a 2-man advantage over its opponent, but that was just for stoppage time of the team‟s 3-1 victory over FC Dallas, a game known primarily for Johnson‟s 2008 MLS Goal of the Year blast …

OTHER RED CARD MISCELLANY: In its history, RSL

has never played with just nine men due to disciplinary issues, and has even scored FOUR short-handed goals (Jason Kreis, 7/4/05 v. NY; Chris Klein & Kreis, 9/16/06 v. DAL; and a Chris Leitch own-goal on 7/3/09 v. SJ) … On 25 occasions, RSL opponents have been subject to ejection, giving the Claret-and-Cobalt a total of 424 minutes with a man-advantage … During those minutes, RSL has seen a +9 goal difference … On the other hand, RSL has been victim of 28 red cards, succumbing to a -8 goal difference in a total of 537 minutes playing a man down … Incredibly, SIX of those eight goals came in one game, the 0-6 loss @NY in August 2006 when DF Jack Stewart was tossed in the 8

th

minute … in that game, RSL made it to halftime tied 0-0, but allowed an Edson Buddle hat trick in a 21-minute span of the 2

nd half, with another three goals scored during the

final 45 minutes …

SABORIO GOAL DROUGHT: While it was last year‟s

home game vs. Houston that marked the Costa Rican striker Saborio‟s coming out party – the first of five multi-goal performances en route to his total of 18 goals in 32 games across MLS and CCL play in 2010 – Sabo has not found the back of the net in 2011 since March 15 … The last time RSL‟s leading scorer struck was in the 8

th minute

of an eventual 2-0 win in the first leg of the CCL semifinal against his former Saprissa club … On three separate occasions last year, Sabo went three consecutive games without scoring, his longest droughts of the year … So far in 2011, he has gone four consecutive MLS games without finding the back of the net, along with three consecutive CCL games, the total of 7 scoreless matches more than doubling his longest goalless famine from last year …

ITS NOT JUST HIM: The back-to-back shutouts

suffered on April 27 (0-1 v. Monterrey) and April 30 (0-1 @ POR) marked the first time RSL has failed to score in consecutive games in nearly two years, as the team actually went three straight MLS games without scoring back in May of 2009, a drought that started with an 0-1 loss @ Chivas … RSL‟s last clean sheet suffered prior to recent weeks was back on Feb. 22 @ Columbus, when it went down to 9 men for much of the first leg of the CCL quarterfinal … Last year, RSL was held scoreless only 7 times in 42 MLS & CCL games … Overall, RSL has been held without scoring only 11 times in its last 57 games, dating back to the 2009 Eastern Conference Final at Chicago …

GOOSE EGG RARE AT HOME FOR RSL: The April

27 shutout loss to Monterrey (MEX) was eerily reminiscent of the club‟s 0-1 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium back in November of 2008 in the Western Conference Final against New York, allowing a goal against the run of play and pressing forward to no avail for long stretches of a dominant second half … These two heartbreaking losses in knockout competitions – denying RSL the chance to raise a trophy at home in front of its fans – highlight the now six occasions that RSL has been blanked by opponents at Rio Tinto Stadium … Since losing 0-2 to Kansas City on May 16, 2009, RSL has also endured a trio of scoreless draws at home, the last one prior to the May 14 Houston game coming back on June 25, 2010, against San Jose … In addition to being the highest-scoring team in MLS last year (45 goals in 30 League matches), RSL was the 2

nd

highest-scoring team in 2010/11 CCL Group Stage, with 17 goals in six games (2.83/game), behind only Santos Laguna (MEX) … Including the Monterrey CCL Final series, RSL has outscored opponents 18-8 in a total of 12 contests this season …

SIGHTS NOW SET ON U.S. OPEN CUP: Now that

the team‟s foray in the 2010/11 CONCACAF tourney is complete, RSL will play 11 league matches from April 30 – June 25 before participating in another non-MLS competition in 2011, advancing automatically into the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 by virtue of its #2 overall MLS regular-season finish last year … For the first time since 2006, RSL will not have to participate in MLS “qualifiers” for the Open Cup … Due to the team‟s CCL run this Spring, along with the new 34-game MLS regular season and the Open Cup advancement, RSL is guaranteed to play at least 41 games during the 2011 calendar year before the playoffs, one shy of last year‟s club-record total of 42 games played …

FIVE FOR FIGHTING AIN’T BAD: Despite the pall

cast over RSL‟s recent week‟s with the CONCACAF Final loss and the long-term injury to Javier Morales, Jason Kreis wants to remind his locker room, as well as the fans and media interested in MLS that the team’s 5-1-1 record and 2.29 points-per-game average are MLS-best marks of which RSL should be proud … The team‟s +7 goal differential (9 GF / 2 GA) equals only New York‟s +7, although the Red Bulls have played 180 more minutes … In current MLS standings, RSL trails 1

st-place Los

Angeles by just four points, despite RSL playing FIVE FEWER GAMES than the 5-2-5 Galaxy … RSL‟s five wins in its first seven games is a historically positive start for a team that finished 5-22-5 in its inaugural 2005 season, and one that has also had a six-win season (2007) and a pair of 10-win seasons (2006, 2008) … In the team‟s three previous playoff years, it did not record its fifth win until May 22 (2010), June 27 (2009) and June 22 (2008) …

MAYDAY, MAYDAY: 12-MONTH RUN OF

SUCCESS ON MULTIPLE FRONTS: Despite the pair

of difficult 0-1 losses vs. Monterrey and at Portland in the last week of April, Real Salt Lake has performed exceptionally in the 45 games played between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011, losing only six times in that stretch, the rough equivalent of a season-and-a-half … Across MLS regular season, MLS Cup Playoff and CONCACAF Champions League games, Jason Kreis‟ team posted an impressive mark of 26-6-13 and outscored opponents 75-33 since May 1, 2010 … RSL would have earned 91 points in this stretch … The MLS equivalents: (reg.-season games only) TEAM GAME 1 GAME 45 PTS

TIME FOR A NEW STREAK: In Major League

Soccer‟s 16-year history, there have been 25 double-digit unbeaten regular-season streaks for its teams … Real Salt Lake’s historic 2010 season saw the squad amass runs of both 10 and 14 games, with the mid-April win vs. Colorado extending the latter streak to 18 games without a loss, one of the top three streaks in MLS history, just one game shy of matching the League standard … A year ago, FC Dallas matched the Columbus Crew’s 19-game run by not losing for 4 ½ months, then saw it crash to a halt by dropping an 0-2 decision at Rio Tinto Stadium … Dallas had the last laugh, however, ousting RSL in the teams‟ first-round MLS Cup Playoff matchup with a 3-2 aggregate win in October … The list:

SHEDDING THE “ROAD WOE” REPUTATION:

The nine-game RSL road run that was snapped at Portland on April 30 was tied for the second longest in MLS annals, even with the 2004 Columbus Crew and 2007-08 Chicago Fire and trailing only last year‟s FC Dallas mark of 12 straight without a loss from May 1 – Sept. 25, 2010… This recent run of road success – marred by the playoff loss @DAL, yet enhanced by road results @ Columbus, @ Saprissa and @ Monterrey in CCL play – marks the team‟s first-ever nine-game undefeated streak away from home, placing the squad‟s all-time regular season road mark at 16-56-23 (.288; 87 GF / 161 GA) … Since Kreis took over, RSL‟s MLS road mark is 12-32-18, with the four road wins in 2010 doubling the two earned in each of the 2007-09 seasons … Three games down, 14 to go in 2011 …

TURF WOES: The Timbers loss dropped RSL‟s all-time

turf mark to 2-8-5 all-time in regular-season road matches (both wins coming at Gillette Stadium vs. NE in the last 6 months) on the fake stuff, outscored 10-23 on aggregate … Despite playing on the hardened Rice-Eccles turf for nearly four seasons, the historic MLS Cup 2009 result at Qwest Field was RSL’s first-ever win on an artificial surface on the road in the team‟s five-year history to that point, although that game is officially recorded as a 1-1 draw decided on PKs … In 2005, RSL also dropped a U.S. Open Cup game at Minnesota on turf by a 4-6 scoreline …

DEFENSE FIRST: While RSL was the highest-scoring

team in MLS last year with 45 goals in 30 games for an average of 1.50 goals/game, defense takes precedence in Jason Kreis‟ system … Just last year, RSL amassed two of the top 5 shutout streaks in MLS history:

RSL “BRACING” FOR SUCCESS: With MF Javier

Morales‟ two-goal „brace‟ on March 26 vs LA, RSL has now seen 18 of its 27 multi-goal performances occur at home in its 190-game MLS regular-season game and 12-game CCL history … Morales trails Álvaro Saborío and Jeff Cunningham (both at 5) and ties Robbie Findley with four “braces,” while Yura Movsisyan (2) and one each by Paulo Junior, Will Johnson, Kyle Beckerman, Jason Kreis, Atiba Harris, Chris Brown and Fabian Espíndola have also scored 2 or more times in a game … When an RSL player scores 2 or more goals in a game, the team has posted a 19-2-4 all-time mark … Besides the 4-5 loss at Cruz Azul, when was the lone MLS loss? … June 17, 2007, when Chris Brown‟s brace @LA was wasted in a 2-3 loss: G Player Date Opponent Result

KREIS CONTRACT EXTENDED THRU 2013: On

March 24, RSL President Bill Manning and GM Garth Lagerwey announced that the club has extended by two years the contract of current Head Coach Jason Kreis, keeping the youngest MLS Cup-winning manager in League history on the RSL sideline through the completion of the 2013 season … All-time, Kreis now owns a 52-44-35 mark in MLS regular-season, playoff and CONCACAF Champions League play …

Under Kreis‟ leadership, RSL became the first-ever MLS team (and one of just three non-Mexican teams) to win a CONCACAF group, posting a 4-1-1 mark and becoming the first-ever MLS side to advance CCL Final … The former striker‟s 2010 side was also the second-highest-scoring team in CONCACAF‟s group stage, with 17 goals in six games (2.83 goals/game) … During MLS play in 2010, the following numbers established by RSL set or tied new single-season league standards: fewest goals allowed (20), overall goal differential (+25), total home points (37), fewest home losses (0) and fewest home goals allowed (7). In addition to those league benchmarks, last year‟s edition set franchise-high records in wins (15), goals (45), scoring output (1.50/game), points (56), shutouts (15), road points (19) and road goal differential (+1) … The author of 108 MLS goals during his playing career with Dallas (1996-2004) and Real Salt Lake (2005-07), Kreis abruptly retired just four games into the 2007 MLS season in order to become RSL‟s second-ever head coach, replacing John Ellinger … With that move, Kreis became just the eighth person in the history of the five major U.S. sports leagues to serve as a head coach while holding his league‟s career scoring record (and only the third athlete in the post-World War II era) … The first MLS player to break the century mark in goals scored, Kreis‟ 108 total goals scored still rank fourth behind Jaime Moreno (131), Jeff Cunningham (130) and Ante Razov (114) heading into the 2011 season … At the time of his hire, Kreis became the youngest active head coach in MLS at 34 years and 127 days of age … Kreis, Lagerwey and the team‟s coaching staff – Jeff Cassar, Miles Joseph and C.J. Brown – compose the lone technical staff among MLS‟ 18 teams comprised entirely of ex-MLS players … This distinction means that the RSL braintrust now boasts cumulative MLS experience of 71,242 total minutes, covering 902 games and including 126 goals and 22 shutouts (the equivalent of nearly 30 complete seasons of service) …

RSL’S INTERNATIONAL HISTORY: With the late

April 0-1 loss to Monterrey in the 2010/11 CONCACAF Final, RSL is now 12-7-6 all-time in international contests, with a positive goal differential (43 goals for / 33 goals against) … In meaningful int‟l competition, RSL is now 6-3-3 (26 GF / 17 GA) … In the Jason Kreis era, RSL falls to 8-3-2 vs. visiting international squads (does NOT include Toronto FC league matches; however, DOES include CCL games vs Columbus) …

HOW DOES RSL GET BACK IN?: RSL probably

won‟t play another international side – exhibition or otherwise – until the 2012/13 CONCACAF tourney, which it could only qualify for through the following domestic-based mechanisms: U.S. Open Cup winner, 2011 MLS Supporters Shield winner, or MLS Cup 2011 participant … Had RSL defeated Dallas in last year‟s MLS Cup Playoff series, or even had Los Angeles advanced in place of Dallas to MLS Cup – RSL would have qualified for this year‟s CONCACAF Champions League due to LA essentially owning “dual” slots (Supp. Shield / Cup participant) and RSL finishing #2 in last year‟s overall MLS table …

FORTRESS RIO TINTO STADIUM BREACHED:

With RSL‟s 0-0 draw at home last week against Houston, the team continued its MLS home unbeaten streak, now at 29 games and counting … In late April, the 0-1 CCL loss to Monterrey (MEX) last week snapped the club’s overall home unbeaten run at 37 games across MLS, CCL and exhibition play … While that loss dropped RSL to 5-1-0 at home in CONCACAF play, the team remains 19-0-8 in MLS regular season, 1-0-1 playoffs and 2-0-1 in international exhibitions … The aggregate scoreline in those games?: 77-19 …
