Dear Millennial Leadership Summit Participants,

On behalf of Mobilize.org, American Express, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, John L. and James S. Knight Foundation, Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, Lumina Foundation for Education, Peter G. Peterson Foundation and The New Community College at CUNY, it is my

pleasure to welcome you to New York City and to the Mobilize.org Millennial Leadership Summit.

Since our founding in 2002, Mobilize.org has hosted 10 summits and invested in 34 Millennial-led projects that address issues such as financial literacy, environmental sustainability, college completion, and the challenges young veterans face adjusting to civilian life. This special summit reconvenes funded teams, summit participants and non-profit partners to offer collaborative learning opportunities, skill-building workshops and speaking opportunities that allow you to share your challenges, successes and tell us how investments from Mobilize.org and our partners have allowed you to scale and elevate your work, and how we can do even more to support you and other Millennials across the country.

The Millennial Generation is at a landmark civic, social and economic crossroads; it holds an endless potential for civic innovation while facing overwhelming socio-economic opposition. The Mobilize.org mission is to empower and invest in Millennials to create and implement solutions to social problems and we believe that honing our generation’s collaborative spirit is key to helping us break through these barriers. The Millennial Leadership Summit provides you with exclusive networking opportunities with your peers, philanthropic partners and members of the corporate social responsibility community– all who are committed to supporting your work and continued leadership development. This weekend, I encourage you to share your own experiences and best practices, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, find new ways to collaborate and enjoy the Big Apple.

Congratulations on being selected to attend the Millennial Leadership Summit and welcome to New York City!

Keep Mobilizin’,

Maya Enista SmithCEO, Mobilize.org

Dear Millennial Leaders,

On behalf of American Express, it is my honor to welcome you to the first Mobilize.org Millennial Leadership Summit in New York City. Our team is thrilled to support Mobilize.org as it invests in you, the leaders of today and the emerging leaders of tomorrow.

At American Express, we appreciate the impact that talented leaders can have on business and society as a whole. We therefore extend our commitment to leadership development to a broader community, which is why one of our three platforms for philanthropy is Developing New Leaders for Tomorrow. Our grant to Mobilize.org and the Millennial Leadership Summit continues our support to prepare and develop high potential emerging leaders to tackle important issues of our generation.

Throughout the next few days, you will learn from each other as much as from the thoughtful agenda of speakers. I’m pleased that you will have a chance to hear from my colleagues, Mary Hines, vice president at American Express, and Christine Rhee, manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, to hear more about why our company invests in leadership, and in the millennial generation in particular.

We hope you use your time here to cultivate new relationships, discuss new ways of collaborating, and to further elevate your work and the impact in your communities. Congratulations on your achievements thus far, and for taking the steps to continue in your leadership journey. We look forward to hearing and learning from you and we congratulate you on the great work you’ve done in service to others.

Sincerely,

Don’t Miss It: Top Five Night Tourist Attractions to Check Out!

1) Times SquareOne of the most iconic sites of New York, Times Square at night is a sight to behold. Filled with milling tourists and locals alike, the blazing signs of ads and television screens are a must-see attraction.

2) Statue of LibertyAlthough there are no tours or ferries to the Statue of Liberty at night, this baby is still visible from the South West harbors in New York. Make your way to the riverside to view lady liberty herself.

3) Time Warner CenterThe Time Warner Center, open until 9 o’clock, consists of two 750 foot towers that are bridged by a multi-story atrium with upscale retail shops. It was the first major building to be built in New York after the September 11th terrorist attacks. The building contains a number of shops, offices, residential condominiums, a hotel, and even a theatre! Definitely a building to check out!

4) 9/11 Ground Zero MemorialStop and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the September 11th terrorist attacks.

5) Empire State Building and Top of the RockThe two best lookout points for a photo of the nightscape of New York (although Top of the Rock is taller and therefore has better photo opportunities)!

Free Things to Do in New York CitySome of the listings include:1) If it's free blues you're after, you can't do any better than the gratis shows every Friday and Saturday night at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. Shows start at 9 p.m.

2) If you’re looking for some free food in New York, head to Brooklyn’s own Mark Bar any day after 6 p.m. Mark Bar serves customers complimentary pizza and cold cuts every day of the week. On Sundays at noon, after a long week, the bar also gives customers free coffee and bagels.http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/city-guides/free-new-york-city-traveler/

Different Neighborhoods in New YorkLooking for an area to explore? These are the best spots in New York!

Midtown East/WestThe Midtown area is full of many of the sites that make New York famous: Theatre District, Bryant Park, the Empire State Building, and Times

Square. Otherwise, this area is full of office businesses and hotels.

Greenwich Village (West Village)Delicious restaurants, independent shops, and beautiful streets, Greenwich Village, also known as the West Village, is a great neighborhood to explore when you want to escape Manhattan’s crowded streets and tall skyscrapers. Don’t miss the Washington Square Park!

East VillageFamous for punk-rock, great bars and its immigrant history, the East Village is home to the hippie, punk, and artsy scene. The eclectic restaurants offer global cuisine, and the décor is so un-cool that it is cool without trying to try at all. Discover what is considered the “epicenter of Downtown cool” in Alphabet City, or find your inner muse in Tompkins Square Park or the Nuyorican Poets Café.

The Lower East SideSince the 1960s, the Lower East Side has been building a reputation as a hip, alternative area. Stretching

from the Bowery to the East River Park, the neighborhood is bursting with trendy boutiques, hip night-clubs, and exciting music venues. Head to Clinton Street for upscale restaurants such as Savor NY and Lotus Lounge. Bar-hopping becomes an all night affair with dive bars, ritzy lounges, and dance clubs around Essex, Clinton, Stanton, and Rivington Streets.

50 Things to Do on a Friday NightThis list is an expansive offering of different activities and things to check out. Some of the more intriguing things are:

1) Free Friday hours at the Whitney Museum of American Art2) Listen to jazz at Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle3) Slurp oysters for cheap at Fish
