REAL SALT LAKE vs CHIVAS USA RIO TINTO STADIUM, Sandy, Utah 2 p.m. MT (Telefutura) May 7, 2011 (WEEK 8; MLS Game 69)

After seeing their lengthy unbeaten streak come to an end, Real Salt Lake return home to take on a Chivas USA side looking to build one of their own. Real lost for the first time in 18 league matches last weekend, a 1-0 loss at Portland, after their home unbeaten streak came to an end in the CONCACAF Champions League Final. Chivas USA have won back-to-back games, coming off a dominant 3-0 home win against New England. REFEREE: Paul Ward. Chivas USA have never won at Rio Tinto Stadium, RSL winning twice (including in the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs) before the teams played to a 1-1 draw there last year.

After failing to come away from The Home Depot Center with a victory against Chivas USA in their first seven visits all-time, Real have won two of the last three trips to Carson to face Chivas, including the 2-1 win last year.

Coaches record: Robin Fraser vs. RSL: first game … Jason Kreis v CHV: P12 W5 L5 D2 REAL SALT LAKE In their first match in league play in nearly three weeks, Real Salt Lake saw their long unbeaten streak come to an end, falling 1-0 to the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening at Jeld-Wen Field. RSL start the week in a tie for second place in the Western Conference with 12 points from 5 matches. LAST MATCH

The game's lone goal came in the 22nd minute. Freed down the left, Kalif Alhassan crossed a ball to the front of the RSL net and from a crowd Kenny Cooper knocked a short volley with his right foot past Real 'keeper Nick Rimando.

RSL coach Jason Kreis made four changes to the side that had defeated the Colorado Rapids on April 13 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Chris Schuler came into the back four for Jamison Olave, Collen Warner and Jean Alexandre started in the midfield for Andy Williams and Ned Grabavoy, and Arturo Alvarez started up top in place of Fabian Espindola.

TEAM NEWS Real Salt Lake saw their league unbeaten streak snapped at 18 games in the 1-0 loss to Portland, one game

shy of the all-time league record set previously by Columbus (2004-05) and FC Dallas (2010). RSL had last lost a league game last July 17, 2-0 at FC Dallas.

Real Salt Lake saw their 34-game unbeaten streak in all official competitions at Rio Tinto Stadium (23-0-9) come to an end during the week in the 1-0 loss to Mexico’s CF Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League final. They had last lost in Sandy on May 16, 2009, a 2-0 league defeat by Kansas City.

"We're going through like every team does, a little rough patch, and we haven't had that in a long time. It's up to the older guys and veterans to get us through this time and make sure we get back to where we believe we can be as quick as possible," said Kyle Beckerman to the Deseret News.

RSL also saw a nine-game road unbeaten streak come to an end in the loss in Portland, which was tied for the second-longest in MLS history (along with Columbus in 2004 and Chicago in 2007-08), behind only a 12-game road run by FC Dallas last season. Real have four of five games at home in May.

“We’ve seen the end of what was a fantastic run in the CONCACAF Champions League, we see the end of a four-game winning streak, and we see the end of an 18-game unbeaten streak,” Kreis said. “But with the ending of everything comes the beginning of something new, so we need to get ready for what should be a fantastic May with a lot of home games.”

After the midweek loss in the Champions League final, Kreis gave a second start of the season in league play to midfielders Collen Warner and Jean Alexandre and forward Arturo Alvarez. At halftime, first-choice linkmen Andy Williams and Will Johnson came into the match.

“It’d be completely unfair to blame anything on any of those guys. The substitutions we made were because we were one goal down and we needed the energy,” Kreis said.

Kenny Cooper’s goal for the Timbers also snapped a 213-minute shutout streak in league play, the first MLS goal allowed by Real since Juan Pablo Angel scored for the LA Galaxy on March 26.

RSL were not shutout in back-to-back games over the entirety of the 2010 campaign, but did not score in two games last week. Kreis had hoped to give Alvaro Saborio the weekend off, but with Paulo Junior slowed by a hamstring injury and Fabian Espindola trying to overcome the midweek loss, Saborio played the full 90 in Portland.

“The plan was that he was supposed to rest last week,” Kreis said. “He’s got swelling in his knee. He’s doing the best that he can to try to manage. I know from being there that when you have anything like that on your mind it can affect your performance - especially for a striker.”

CHIVAS USA Chivas USA made it two wins out of two, rolling to a 3-0 victory against the New England Revolution on Saturday evening at The Home Depot Center. Chivas USA have 9 points from 7 games on the season, sitting in seventh place in the Western Conference. LAST MATCH

The Rojiblancos took the lead in the 22nd minute of play when Nick LaBrocca split two Revs defenders to head in Ben Zemanski’s cross from the right corner, giving Chivas USA their first lead at home this season.

Chivas doubled their lead at the end of the first half when Alejandro Moreno floated a cross from the left, and Marcos Mondaini jabbed an acrobatic volley past Revolution 'keeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

Chivas USA closed the scoring in the 57th minute when Moreno poached a poor back pass by Shalrie Joseph to Didier Domi, and the Venezuelan international fired the ball into the Revolution net from the heart of the box.

Chivas USA head coach Robin Fraser made no changes to the team that knocked off the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium.

CHIVAS USA (4-1-3-2): Dan Kennedy - Zarek Valentin, Andrew Boyens, Heath Pearce, Ante Jazic - Simon Elliott - Ben Zemanski (Mariano Trujillo 70), Nick LaBrocca, Jorge Flores (Francisco Mendoza 79) - Alejandro Moreno, Marcos Mondaini (Justin Braun 66)

TEAM NEWS With a goal and two assists, Alejandro Moreno played a part in all three Chivas USA goals vs. New England.

He’s been involved in five of Chivas USA’s eight goals on the season. “He’s been extremely solid all year long and is such a critical piece of leadership on this team, even if you don’t

think of your forward as being that way,” said Chivas USA head coach Robin Fraser. “He’s the kind of guy that does all the dirty work to make his team win and it’s not about him our his glory – he could care less about that, and tonight was one where he did a lot of the dirty work and was obviously extremely productive.”

Chivas USA have now won back-to-back games for the first time since Oct. 3-10, 2009. Their current five-game unbeaten string is the longest since a six-game streak that bracketed the consecutive wins.

“We’ve had the energy [in the past], but perhaps we haven’t had the composure,” Moreno said. “But today, we were able to create the opportunities. It was a thorough performance by us in the final third and, not only did we score three goals, but we created a few more chances after that. It was one of those nights that you feel good about and look to build upon.”

The unbeaten run has also coincided with a shift to a four-man midfield for Chivas USA. The midfield group remained the same for a third consecutive game with Simon Elliott filling the holding role behind Nick LaBrocca and Jorge Flores and Ben Zemanski on the flanks.

“With everyone moving around the field … that’s when we’re at our best,” said Zemanski. “When we just play simple, then we’re confident as a team and as players.”

MLS GAME INFORMATION

The streak also comes as veterans players Paulo Nagamura and Jimmy Conrad – first-choice players coming into the season – are nearing fitness.

“We have guys injured who we feel are very important parts of the team, but I think you have to look at the guys who are doing the job today and be proud of them,” said Fraser. “It’s great when we see no matter who goes into the game, the guys are understanding their roles and doing well, which is a great testament to how we’re doing as a team.”

The game at Real Salt Lake will be followed by contests against the two conference leaders – New York and the LA Galaxy.

“You talk about momentum, you talk about character and these games can gain some momentum in this league,” goalkeeper Dan Kennedy said. “In just two weeks, in terms of where we are in the league, standings-wise, how much it can help. We just got to keep going in the right direction.

After conceding three goals in their opening game, Chivas USA have conceded just three in the last six. “When we lost our first few games, we still had a belief system in what we were trying to do. We weren’t there

yet, but we didn’t hit the panic button and change the way we play,” said Heath Pearce. “We stuck to the philosophy of what we’re trying to do and it’s starting to come to fruition for us.”

home Saturday in a battle against its 2005 MLS expansion brethren seeking to start anew and put the streak-breaking disappointments of recent 0-1 losses to Monterrey and Portland in the rear-view mirror … On April 27, RSL suffered an 0-1 defeat in the second leg of the 2010/11 CONCACAF Champions League Finals to Monterrey of Mexico, the 2-3 aggregate goal loss denying Jason Kreis‟ team from becoming the first-ever MLS side to advance to the FIFA Club World Cup, also snapping the club‟s home winning streak in all competitions at 37 games … Seventy-two hours later at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, RSL again lost 0-1, watching its 18-game overall unbeaten stretch in reg.-season play as well as a nine-game road unbeaten streak end … Now, RSL returns to Rio Tinto Stadium to face former assistant coach Robin Fraser and his CD Chivas USA side, which are unbeaten in its last five games, having won two in a row … RSL has not lost to Chivas since a 0-1 loss in LA back in May of 2009, also the last time RSL was shut out in back-to-back games … Saturday’s game between RSL and Chivas USA kicks off at 2:00 p.m. MT and will air live nationwide on TeleFutura and also on RSL‟s official radio partners – ESPN 700 Sports Radio and ESPN Deportes 1600 AM / Juan 106.1 FM …

MAYDAY, MAYDAY: 12-MONTH RUN OF

SUCCESS ON MULTIPLE FRONTS: Despite the pair

of difficult 0-1 losses vs. Monterrey and at Portland last week, Real Salt Lake has performed exceptionally in the 45 games played between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011, losing only six times in that stretch, the rough equivalent of a season-and-a-half … Across MLS regular season, MLS Cup Playoff and CONCACAF Champions League games, Jason Kreis‟ team posted an impressive mark of 26-6-13 and outscored opponents 75-33 since May 1, 2010 … RSL would have earned 91 points in this stretch … The MLS equivalents: (reg.-season games only) TEAM GAME 1 GAME 45 PTS

Chicago Fire 6/04/2000 9/01/2001 90 Prior to last Saturday at Portland, the lone MLS losses both came on the road at Dallas on July 17 and Oct. 30 (playoffs), sandwiched around the bizarre 4-5 loss at Cruz Azul … The fourth loss could hardly considered a setback, as that was the 1-2 decision at Saprissa which enabled RSL advanced to the CCL Final … RSL then dropped the 0-1 home game to Monterrey to snap the 37-game “all-competition” Rio Tinto Stadium streak …

SHEDDING THE “ROAD WOE” REPUTATION:

The nine-game RSL road run that was snapped at Portland is tied for the second longest in MLS annals, even with the 2004 Columbus Crew and 2007-08 Chicago Fire and trailing only last year‟s FC Dallas mark of 12 straight without a loss from May 1 – Sept. 25, 2010… This recent run of road success – marred by the playoff loss @DAL, yet enhanced by road results @ Columbus, @ Saprissa and @ Monterrey in CCL play – marks the team‟s first-ever nine-game undefeated streak away from home, placing the squad‟s all-time regular season road mark at 16-56-23 (.288; 87 GF / 161 GA) … Since Kreis took over, RSL‟s MLS road mark is 12-32-18, with the four road wins in 2010 doubling the two earned in each of the 2007-09 seasons … Three games down, 14 to go in 2011 …

TIME FOR A NEW STREAK: In Major League

Soccer‟s 16-year history, there have been 25 double-digit unbeaten regular-season streaks for its teams … Real Salt Lake’s historic 2010 season saw the squad amass runs of both 10 and 14 games, with the mid-April win vs. Colorado extending the latter streak to 18 games without a loss, one of the top three streaks in MLS history, just one game shy of matching the League standard … A year ago, FC Dallas matched the Columbus Crew’s 19-game run by not losing for 4 ½ months, then saw it crash to a halt by dropping an 0-2 decision at Rio Tinto Stadium … Dallas had the last laugh, however, ousting RSL in the teams‟ first-round MLS Cup Playoff matchup with a 3-2 aggregate win in October … The list:

ROSE CITY REWIND: Real Salt Lake was denied the

opportunity to become the first MLS side to win its first five games of a season since the 1998 Los Angeles Galaxy by dropping an 0-1 decision at Jeld-Wen Field last Saturday night … It was RSL‟s former Dallas-based nemesis, FW Kenny Cooper, who tallied the game‟s only goal in the 33

rd minute

in a game eerily similar to the April 27 Monterrey loss, as RSL was punished for a defensive breakdown, pushed forward in the second half and dominated possession, yet proved unable to find the back of the net … Cooper’s goal was just the second allowed by RSL this season and snapped a 213-minute shutout streak … Los Angeles Galaxy FW Juan Pablo Angel‟s 79‟ tally in RSL‟s 4-1 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium back on March 26 marked the only other goal allowed … A trio of regular starters for RSL – DF Robbie Russell, DF Jamison Olave and FW Fabian Espindola – did not make the trip to Portland last week, while three midfield regulars – MF Andy Williams, MF Ned Grabavoy and MF Will Johnson – started the game on the bench … Grabavoy and Johnson were the only two RSL players to see action in all 12 CONCACAF Champions League matches in 2010/11, while Williams was the club‟s leading assist man during the tourney … Johnson and Williams entered at halftime, while Grabavoy played the final 20 minutes, entering for Beltran and moving Johnson to right back …

TURF WOES: The loss dropped RSL‟s all-time turf

mark to 2-8-5 all-time in regular-season road matches (both wins coming at Gillette Stadium vs. NE in the last 6 months) on the fake stuff, outscored 10-23 on aggregate … Despite playing on the hardened Rice-Eccles turf for nearly four seasons, the historic MLS Cup 2009 result at Qwest Field was RSL’s first-ever win on an artificial surface on the road in the team‟s five-year history to that point, although that game is officially recorded as a 1-1 draw decided on PKs … In 2005, RSL also dropped a U.S. Open Cup game at Minnesota on turf by a 4-6 scoreline …

HISTORY WITH CHIVAS USA: Since suffering its

only home loss of the 2008 season to Chivas USA in its final home game at Rice-Eccles Stadium, RSL has posted a 3-1-2 mark against the team with which it entered MLS back in 2005, including a 3-2 aggregate goal victory over Chivas in the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs … RSL has outscored Chivas 6-1 in its three visits to Rio Tinto Stadium, although that lone goal salvaged a late tie last year on Pioneer Day after RSL took the lead on Ned Grabavoy‟s 66‟ Goal of the Year candidate … Despite outshooting Chivas 20-5 (and 8-2 in SOG) in the last meeting, RSL was unable to capture the full three points …

REAL SALT LAKE vs. CD CHIVAS USA – SATURDAY, MAY 7, 2011

SCORING DROUGHT STRIKES AFTER 2 YEARS:

The back-to-back shutouts suffered on April 27 (0-1 v. Monterrey) and April 30 (0-1 @ POR) mark the first time RSL has failed to score in consecutive games in nearly two years, as the team actually went three straight MLS games without scoring back in May of 2009, a drought that started with an 0-1 loss @ Chivas … RSL‟s last clean sheet suffered prior to this most recent week was back on Feb. 22 @ Columbus, when it went down to 9 men for much of the first leg of the CCL quarterfinal … Last year, RSL was held scoreless only 7 times in 42 MLS & CCL games … Overall, RSL has been held without scoring only 10 times in its last 54 games, dating back to the 2009 Eastern Conference Final at Chicago …

GOOSE EGG RARE AT HOME FOR RSL: The April

27 shutout loss to Monterrey (MEX) was eerily reminiscent of the club‟s 0-1 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium back in November of 2008 in the Western Conference Final against New York, allowing a goal against the run of play and pressing forward to no avail for long stretches of a dominant second half … These two heartbreaking losses in knockout competitions – denying RSL the chance to raise a trophy at home in front of its fans – highlight the five times that RSL has been blanked by opponents at Rio Tinto Stadium … Since losing 0-2 to Kansas City on May 16, 2009, RSL has also endured a pair of scoreless draws at home, the last coming on June 25, 2010, against San Jose … In addition to being the highest-scoring team in MLS last year (45 goals in 30 League matches), RSL was the 2

nd

highest-scoring team in 2010/11 CCL Group Stage, with 17 goals in six games (2.83/game), behind only Santos Laguna (MEX) … Including the Monterrey CCL Final series, RSL had outscored opponents 17-7 in ten 2011 contests prior to the 0-1 loss @ POR last Saturday …

SIGHTS NOW SET ON U.S. OPEN CUP: Now that

the team‟s foray in the 2010/11 CONCACAF tourney is complete, RSL will play 11 league matches from April 30 – June 25 before participating in another non-MLS competition in 2011, advancing automatically into the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 by virtue of its #2 overall MLS regular-season finish last year … For the first time since 2006, RSL will not have to participate in MLS “qualifiers” for the Open Cup … Due to the team‟s CCL run this Spring, along with the new 34-game MLS regular season and the Open Cup advancement, RSL is guaranteed to play at least 41 games during the 2011 calendar year before the playoffs, one shy of last year‟s club-record total of 42 games played …

HOME COOKING, COMIN’ RIGHT UP: Saturday‟s

game vs. Chivas USA kicks off a run of four MLS contests out of the next five that will be played at the team’s Rio Tinto Stadium home, with the club‟s 27-game MLS streak intact going in … In the next 30 days, from May 7 – June 4, RSL hosts Chivas, Houston, Seattle and Vancouver, a home stretch broken only by traveling to Dallas on May 22 … On June 8/11, RSL travels to Columbus and Philadelphia in a Wed/Sat Eastern run, then returns to Rio Tinto Stadium on June 18 vs. D.C. United before a midweek encounter at Chicago on June 22 … Then Rio Tinto Stadium again sees a massive stretch of home games, as RSL hosts six of its 8 MLS games from June 25 to August 6 on the Wasatch Front … Visitors in that period include Toronto, New England, Dallas, San Jose, Columbus and New York … On top of that stretch of 11 of 17 MLS games at home in May/June/July and the first week of August, RSL has the potential to host two additional games in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tourney, on June 28 and July 12 …

RIMANDO MARCH PLAYER OF THE MONTH: On

April 3, for the third time in his RSL career, GK Nick Rimando was recognized by the North American Soccer Reporters as the March, 2011, Major League Soccer Player of the Month … Rimando made 16 saves in two RSL wins at San Jose and home against Los Angeles, shutting out the Earthquakes and allowing the lone goal in the 80

th minute of RSL‟s eventual 4-1 win over Los

Angeles … Rimando also had a second clean sheet in March, stoning Saprissa at Rio Tinto Stadium in RSL‟s 2-0 win on March 15 … Rimando also won PotM honors in June, 2010 and July, 2008 while wearing an RSL uniform … Only three RSL players have ever received the monthly honor in team annals, as FW Jeff Cunningham (August, 2006), and FW Álvaro Saborío (May, 2010) also previously earned the distinction … Rimando is also the first-ever MLS „keeper to win the award 3 times …

COMEBACK KIDS FALL SHORT IN CCL FINAL:

Incredibly, RSL overcame significant, self-inflicted obstacles throughout the 2010/11 CONCACAF tourney, allowing the first goal in each of its first five CCL group games … Amazingly, RSL led by halftime in 4 of those 5 games … Only in the group finale against Cruz Azul at home did RSL score first, something it did in 17 of its 30 regular-season MLS games in 2010 … ONLY in the final leg against Monterrey did RSL fail to equalize after allowing the first goal … The opposing goals allowed in the five CCL group games all came within the first 21 minutes, setting the stage for RSL to make its comebacks, going 3-1-1 when going down 0-1 to start the game … In four of the occasions, RSL rebounded to tie within 20 minutes after allowing the first goal, also managing to lead that particular game prior to halftime in three of the five contests … Down RSL RSL

RSL’S INTERNATIONAL HISTORY: With the late

April 0-1 loss to Monterrey in the 2010/11 CONCACAF Final, RSL is now 12-7-6 all-time in international contests, with a positive goal differential (43 goals for / 33 goals against) … In meaningful int‟l competition, RSL is now 6-3-3 (26 GF / 17 GA) … In the Jason Kreis era, RSL falls to 8-3-2 vs. visiting international squads (does NOT include Toronto FC league matches; however, DOES include CCL games vs Columbus) …

HOW DOES RSL GET BACK IN?: RSL probably

won‟t play another international side – exhibition or otherwise – until the 2012/13 CONCACAF tourney, which it could only qualify for through the following domestic-based mechanisms: U.S. Open Cup winner, 2011 MLS Supporters Shield winner, or MLS Cup 2011 participant … Had RSL defeated Dallas in last year‟s MLS Cup Playoff series, or even had Los Angeles advanced in place of Dallas to MLS Cup – RSL would have qualified for this year‟s CONCACAF Champions League due to LA essentially owning “dual” slots (Supp. Shield / Cup participant) and RSL finishing #2 in last year‟s overall MLS table …

REAL SALT LAKE vs. CD CHIVAS USA – SATURDAY, MAY 7, 2011

JAVIER’S HEROICS: Real Salt Lake‟s “never say die”

penchant was on full display April 20 in Monterrey, with MF Javier Morales‟ individual brilliance finding far-side netting in the 89

th minute to bring RSL back to Rio Tinto Stadium

tied 2-2 on aggregate … Despite RSL being under siege for most of the second half, it was a fantastic effort by Claret-and-Cobalt newcomer FW Arturo Alvarez to win a ball deep in the Rayados corner and find Morales, who juked three defenders and tucked the ball past the Mexican „keeper just inside the left post …

LATE DRAMA PART OF RSL DNA: Morales‟ 89‟

game-tying goal marked the SEVENTH time in a span of 27 MLS and CCL games since RSL kicked off CONCACAF play last August that Jason Kreis‟ club tallied either an equalizer or a game-winner after the 80

BUT DOES IT WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS?: Real Salt

Lake was one of four 2010 MLS teams – RSL (0.67 goals per game), LA Galaxy (0.87), FC Dallas (0.93) and the New York Red Bulls (0.97) – to allow less than a goal per game … Prior to 2010, just seven teams total in league history boasted < 1.00 GAA, two of which won it all (KC – 2000 & HOU – 2007) …

DEFENSE FIRST: While RSL was the highest-scoring

team in MLS last year with 45 goals in 30 games for an average of 1.50 goals/game, defense takes precedence in Jason Kreis‟ system … Just last year, RSL amassed two of the top 5 shutout streaks in MLS history:

CONSECUTIVE MINUTES WITHOUT ALLOWING GOAL

TEAM MIN START END Houston Dynamo 727 6/10/2007 7/22/2007 Kansas City Wizards 681 4/19/2000 5/27/2000 Real Salt Lake 568 8/11/2010 9/25/2010

Real Salt Lake 567 5/29/2010 7/17/2010 Los Angeles Galaxy 521 6/17/2006 7/22/2006

MORE DEFENSE: RSL’s concession of just 20 goals

last season in 30 MLS games for an average of just 0.67 goals per game, by far the lowest GAA in team history (2009, 1.17 goals/game) … The total of 15 shutouts (14 Rimando, 1 Reynish) far surpassed the all-time team season mark of 10 clean sheets, set during the Cup-winning 2009 campaign …

RSL, THY NAME IS STABILITY: After experiencing

significant roster turnover during the organization‟s early years, the Kreis/Lagerwey paradigm of “The Team is the Star” sees a core group return for the third consecutive season … RSL enters the 2011 season with unprecedented continuity, having lost just one player who saw significant minutes in 2010 (Robbie Findley) and replacing him with former Dallas and San Jose stalwart Arturo Alvarez … Eleven of the 14 players that saw action in MLS Cup 2009 were present with RSL at First Kick 2011, with only FW Yura Movsisyan (signed with Denmark‟s Randers FC, now with Russian outfit FC Krasnodar), FW Robbie Findley (signed with English club Nottingham Forest) and MF Clint Mathis (traded to Los Angeles in 2010, now retired) … Overall, 12 of the team‟s current 24 players were part of the core during Real Salt Lake‟s 2008 run to its initial Playoff appearance … Another 3 players – MF Ned Grabavoy (waivers from SJ), MF Jean Alexandre (draft) and MF Nelson Gonzalez (loan from Quilmes) – joined RSL during the 2009 season, while the other six new faces – MF Collen Warner, DF Chris Schuler, DF Rauwshan McKenzie, GK Tim Melia, MF Luis Gil and FW Álvaro Saborío – were added in the 2009/10 offseason, via draft/trade/discovery or waiver claim … The remaining players – FW Paulo Jr., MF Arturo Alvarez and FW Donny Toia (homegrown) – all joined RSL after August, 2010 …

RSL “BRACING” FOR SUCCESS: With MF Javier

Morales‟ two-goal „brace‟ on March 26 vs LA, RSL has now seen 18 of its 27 multi-goal performances occur at home in its 187-game MLS regular-season game and 12-game CCL history … Morales trails Álvaro Saborío and Jeff Cunningham (both at 5) and ties Robbie Findley with four “braces,” while Yura Movsisyan (2) and one each by Paulo Junior, Will Johnson, Kyle Beckerman, Jason Kreis, Atiba Harris, Chris Brown and Fabian Espíndola have also scored 2 or more times in a game … When an RSL player scores 2 or more goals in a game, the team has posted a 19-2-4 all-time mark … Besides the 4-5 loss at Cruz Azul, when was the lone MLS loss? … June 17, 2007, when Chris Brown‟s brace @LA was wasted in a 2-3 loss: G Player Date Opponent Result

KREIS CONTRACT EXTENDED THRU 2013: On

March 24, RSL President Bill Manning and GM Garth Lagerwey announced that the club has extended by two years the contract of current Head Coach Jason Kreis, keeping the youngest MLS Cup-winning manager in League history on the RSL sideline through the completion of the 2013 season … All-time, Kreis now owns a 52-44-35 mark in MLS regular-season, playoff and CONCACAF Champions League play …

Under Kreis‟ leadership, RSL became the first-ever MLS team (and one of just three non-Mexican teams) to win a CONCACAF group, posting a 4-1-1 mark and becoming the first-ever MLS side to advance CCL Final … The former striker‟s 2010 side was also the second-highest-scoring team in CONCACAF‟s group stage, with 17 goals in six games (2.83 goals/game) … During MLS play in 2010, the following numbers established by RSL set or tied new single-season league standards: fewest goals allowed (20), overall goal differential (+25), total home points (37), fewest home losses (0) and fewest home goals allowed (7). In addition to those league benchmarks, last year‟s edition set franchise-high records in wins (15), goals (45), scoring output (1.50/game), points (56), shutouts (15), road points (19) and road goal differential (+1) … The author of 108 MLS goals during his playing career with Dallas (1996-2004) and Real Salt Lake (2005-07), Kreis abruptly retired just four games into the 2007 MLS season in order to become RSL‟s second-ever head coach, replacing John Ellinger … With that move, Kreis became just the eighth person in the history of the five major U.S. sports leagues to serve as a head coach while holding his league‟s career scoring record (and only the third athlete in the post-World War II era) … The first MLS player to break the century mark in goals scored, Kreis‟ 108 total goals scored still rank fourth behind Jaime Moreno (131), Jeff Cunningham (130) and Ante Razov (114) heading into the 2011 season … At the time of his hire, Kreis became the youngest active head coach in MLS at 34 years and 127 days of age … Kreis, Lagerwey and the team‟s coaching staff – Jeff Cassar, Miles Joseph and C.J. Brown – compose the lone technical staff among MLS‟ 18 teams comprised entirely of ex-MLS players … This distinction means that the RSL braintrust now boasts cumulative MLS experience of 71,242 total minutes, covering 902 games and including 126 goals and 22 shutouts (the equivalent of nearly 30 complete seasons of service) …

The Red-and-White will face a Real Salt Lake side looking to rebound from losses in the CONCACAF Champions League and MLS, against Monterrey and Portland respectively. Chivas USA has put together five consecutive games without a defeat, and will be looking to extend that streak against Kyle Beckerman and Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Saturday’s match will be broadcast on TeleFutura, and W Radio 690 AM. Fans can also track the game on cdchivasusa.com or on the team’s Twitter feed, @cdchivasusa. On the opposite end (left-hand side from the Press Box) is the Legión 1908, which was founded in 2001 as the Los Angeles chapter of the worldwide Chivas de Guadalajara supporters’ organization. The Los Angeles chapter is the third biggest Legión 1908 group, trailing only Mexico City and Guadalajara in size.
