BACKGROUND INFORMATION

ABOUT MLI MLI-SpeakYourMind was established as a licensee network school of SpeakYourMind in 2009. The current student population consists of students from Algeria, Brazil, Germany, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Italy, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Tanzania, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Hispanic origin residents in the U.S. MLI-SpeakYourMind has become an eligible training provider for the Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board (NVWIB) Skill Source Organization in 2010 to provide its ESL programs with their clientele, after a rigorous review of the schools resources and programs. ESL PROGRAMS The school utilizes the SpeakYourMind method, a ‘smart’ learning methodology, with which the students are enabled to learn English more effectively and fluently and in nearly half the time and effort as they would with conventional methods, as offered by most other schools. The ‘SpeakYourMind’ method is one of the most effective ways of learning English

as a Second Language among all those available on the market. The idea of ‘SpeakYourMind’ is that students need vocabulary and grammar to be fluent in the English language, which are both integrated into each lesson. However, grammar is not introduced as a set of rules to be memorized, but instead as a part of the natural flow of speaking using repetition and expansion. As students are able to pronounce/use words and grammar while speaking, writing and reading components reinforce what the students are learning orally and audibly. By its nature, the program focuses on speaking and thinking in English as its core, followed by essential practice with comprehension and compilation of the language. PROGRAM RETENTION RATES Based on a survey on 400 SpeakYourMind (SyM) students:

93% believe SyM is good value for their money. 99% would recommend SyM to a friend, 83% of them have done it!

40% have done courses with other schools, 98% would do another course with SyM. MLI has experienced the very same or better results taken from routine surveys taken from its students. The current retention rate at MLI-SpeakYourMind is 95%.

TEACHERS MLI-SpeakYourMind instructors are native English teachers who hold at least a Bachelors degree

in TESOL Education, Linguistics, Bi-Lingual Education, or other closely related field, and/or have an ESL teaching certificate. In addition, all Speak Your Mind instructors must complete a rigorous training seminar, as required by all Speak Your Mind institutions.

LOCATION and PREMISES

MLI-SpeakYourMind is a licensee network school of SpeakYourMind and offers English Language Programs to non-English speaking domestic and international students in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area in the U.S.A. The school also offers Business English and TOEFL test preparation courses. The school is located on Leesburg Pike between Seven Corners and

Bailey's Crossroads in Fairfax County, Virginia. Our location features quick access to Washington, D.C., Alexandria and Falls Church City, each offering a wide variety of local attractions, renowned museums, art galleries, shopping malls, recreational centers and restaurants that reflect Northern Virginia‚s great ethnic and cultural diversity. The school is on bus routes 4A and 28A and accessible via East Falls Church and King Street Metro stations as well as Route 7 (King Street - Leesburg Pike) , Arlington Boulevard and Columbia Pike.

ADMISSIONS POLICY The school has an open and rolling admissions policy; that is, there is no admission requirement for those who will study English with us apart from the proof of financial support as required for visa processing. The students can practically start anytime throughout a year; however they have to submit their application at least 6 weeks before their desired start date for MLI to have sufficient time to perform their visa processing and/or to make necessary accommodation arrangements. SERVICES

Housing: The school provides assistance in helping students find housing through its business associates in the form of homestay, room rental/share, apartment rental or hotel stay. The school does not collect any fee for this assistance services; however, there is a one-time charge of $250 for accommodation bookings through the school. Cost of housing is also charged to the student directly by the provider. Airport Transfers: The school provides airport transfers. A school representative meets the students at the airport when they first arrive in the U.S.A.

Orientation: The school provides the students with a complementary orientation, which includes three hours face-to-face instruction on the living environment in Washington, D.C. and a complementary half day D.C. tour. The orientation program provides the participants information about area offerings for their basic needs, i.e., shopping centers, public facilities, public transportation, cultural and social aspects of the community including 80+ significant attractions such as museums, historical and recreational sites, and sightseeing tour offerings and entertainment environment in the Washington, D.C. area.

Social Activities: The school organizes weekly parties at its premises to help the students to socialize and establish strong relationships with each other. In this sense, the school also facilitates social activities organized based on interests and hobbies of its current student body; these include movies, shows, debate groups, presentation seminars, all of which are provided free of charge, apart from their ESL training hours.

VISA As a non-SEVIS authorized school, MLI can provide classes to only those international students who would like to do less than (<)

18 hours of ESL study a week, secondary to their purpose of stay in the U.S., who can participate in a short-seminar program and study during the legal stay period in the U.S. Those who are willing to enroll in our semi-intensive ESL programs, can do so, secondary to their purpose of stay, on all eligible visa types as stated in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement website at http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/Nonimmigrant%20Class%20Who%20Can%20Study.pdf.
