MLC MASTERCLASSHOLIDAY PROGRAMME

MLC’s Masterclasses are designed for girls and boys aged eight and over, of any skill level. Choose one of three four-day programmes, or try our Mix It Up option – you choose the number of days and classes.

Summer Holidays | 17-20 January 2017 | 9am-5pm each day

4 DAY PROGRAMMESCulminating in a presentation to parents/guardians on the final day.

LEGO ROBOTICSA wonderful way to incorporate technology with science and engineering. Participants are challenged to conceive, design and make their own strategically programmed robot under the guidance of ICT trainer Lucinda Hill. This course develops their creative and lateral thinking, programming and problem solving skills and so much more.

SONGWRITERS LIVE WITH KAV TEMPERLEY(Suitable for participants 12 years and above) Spend four epic days with Kav, internationally recognised front-man and songwriter for the band Eskimo Joe. Kav and his team will encourage participants to embrace their song writing aspirations to create, record and perform an original song. A rare opportunity to spend time with a rock star and benefit from his passion for mentoring young musicians. Participants will finish the Masterclass with a scratch demo recording and present a live show for parents.

MINECRAFTMacie Rudoff, MLC Media specialist and Apple Trainer will guide participants through the amazing worlds of Minecraft and learn to imagine and build structures of the future. Master the Creative Mode and fend off dangerous mobs in Survival Mode.

COOKING WITH TASTE BUDDS (Suitable for participants 12 years and above) Designed exclusively for MLC by Chef Sophie Budd these fun and tasty menus will entice the utmost creativity and ensure every participant’s heart and tummy sing.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY Grab hold of this amazing opportunity to use resistant materials such as wood, metal and acrylic. Make an exciting project each day using old school mark and measure techniques and the latest tools and technology.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXTRAVAGANZAMasterclass participants will be exposed to photography in many forms. Zoom into taking the best photos, learn old fashioned photographic techniques and enjoy incorporating the latest trends into pieces of art.

MASTERCRAFTERS ARTMastercrafters offers an array of vibrant colour-filled creativity. Choose from cartoon character illustration, the application of colour mixing techniques, building paddleboats and transforming treasure chests.

TOPIC TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAYCOOKING WITH TASTE BUDDS(Suitable for participants 12 years and above) International chef Sophie Budd has designed this exclusive MLC Masterclass to be run by a chef from Taste Budds Cooking Studio. We may discover a Masterchef in the making.

Show off at home after you learn how to cook the perfect roast pumpkin and bacon RISOTTO. Then indulge in your very own CINNAMON DOUGHNUT BALLS and complete the day with the fun food art challenge – ANIMAL FRUIT FARM with animals made from fruit.

Start the day panning for delicious homemade CHICKEN/FISH NUGGETS with garlic aioli! You’ll be rewarded with lots of dough as you create tailor made MINI PIZZAS and conquer perfect MINI PAVLOVAS or ETON MESS drizzled in beautiful berry coulis. Finish the day with more creativity and a food art challenge – VEGETABLE LANDSCAPE SCENE on a plate. Will you do desert or sea?

On every menu in town at the moment, learn how to make the crispy, crunchy POTATO CROQUETTES with a delicious homemade tomato dipping sauce. For main course you’ll make CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP from scratch and indulge in your very own fresh BREAD ROLLS. Finish the day with a fun food challenge- make your own profiteroles and as a group build a MasterChef CROQUEMBOUCHE.

Nothing beats a flavoursome CURRY with yellow rice, homemade NAAN BREAD and RIATA (cucumber, mint and yogurt dipping sauce) Refresh your palate with fabulous FRUITY ICYPOLES and finish with a fun food art challenge BISCUIT DECORATING.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXTRAVAGANZAProfessional photographer Sandra Herd has a wonderful way of sharing her passion for photography, from techniques for capturing the perfect photo to accessing the latest technlogy. (Day 1 requires a DSLR camera, days 2 and 4 require any camera an IPad, IPhone or similar may be used to take photographs.)

GET TO KNOW TOUR DSLR ANDTHE EXPOSURE TRIANGLEZoom into understanding the insand outs of aperture, shutterspeeds, photographic principlesand lens choices. Participantswill collaborate and usePhotoshop principles to planand produce a final artwork.Please note a DSLR or compactcamera with manual settings isrequired for this class.

YOUR NAME AS PHOTO ART Learn the secrets of photography and composition and how to 'see the unusual' in usual places. Students will search the college grounds looking for letters of the alphabet in nature to create their own unique piece.

SUNPRINTS - PHOTOGRAMS Learn photography the old fashioned way. Bring along some interesting objects or use the ones supplied to block out light and make interesting shapes with this fascinating sun print.

PHOTO TRANSFERS You will never buy a photo frame again! Learn how to plan and produce a beautiful take home craft piece through use of Photoshop principles and photo manipulation. Work with your new friends to share ideas, visualise and plan your final piece.

Jeff has designed this Masterclass to impart his knowledge of traditional techniques and share the remarkable results that can be achieved with the latest tools and technology.

LASER CUT TEA LIGHT HOLDER Timber and acrylic. Use the latest in computer aided design tools to create a personalised tea light holder using a state of the art Laser cutter.

SPINNER AND PENCIL PORTER Sheet metal. Make these fun objects while learning the traditional skills involved in metal work and conquer the knack of joining metals without tools.

PAGODA BOX Timber Stave Construction. Learn the tricks of the trade in timber box making with this intricate piece using straight line timber.

PENCIL BOX Timber joinery. Learn the rewarding art of timber joinery that has been used through the generations from boat building to housing. This box will last a lifetime!

MASTERCRAFTERS - ARTMastercrafters is the brain child of MLC Art Technician and renowned children’s craft book author Miya Maeda. Suitable for all artistic abilities, this Masterclass offers an array of vibrant colour-filled creativity. Our artists will be inspired by the Swan River back drop to create their very own masterpieces.

AM SUNCOLOUR TEXTILE DESIGNS Create beautiful patterns and designs on a piece of fabric using special heat-reactive fabric paints and natural objects.

PM CARTOON CHARACTERS Learn the basics of cartoon character illustration. Focussing on body proportions, facial expressions and movement.

AM UNDERWATER DIORAMAS Create your own undersea reef teeming with colourful sea creatures using papier-mâché and paper craft techniques.

PM STILL LIFE PASTELS Learn drawing techniques with a focus on tone and form by viewing the work of famous still life artists with commentary from your specialist tutor. Use this new knowledge to create a masterpiece on a special pastel board.

AM TREASURE CHEST Use specialist antiquing techniques to decorate a chest and make some special treasures to stow away in it.

PM COLOUR RIOTLearn about colour mixing and how to gain maximum impact through colour combinations. Then design a masterpiece that focuses on using colour to create a balanced and harmonious composition.

AM PADDLEBOATS Science and art combine to create a little boat that paddles with the power of a simple elastic band. Once constructed the MLC Cup will take place to see whose paddles the furthest.

PM LANDSCAPE PAINTING Investigate how to create distance and perspective in paint and colour to create a landscape inspired by the work of famous artists.
