Calling all pre-wedding couples. Over the next 12 months six lucky couples will win a free wedding package with an experienced professional photographer.

This fantastic prize worth over £1,000 could be yours! And if you’re already married, don’t worry, you can still enter the competition to win a ‘cherish the dress’ photo-shoot.

Save thousands of pounds on estate agent feesAfter fifteen years of paying expensive estate agency fees Birmingham property developer Tracey Hatfield decided enough was enough and has launched her own estate agency with a difference.

Homes Online UK is office based and web based but has one major difference to other estate agents – no expensive high street premises to pay for. And the savings are passed on to the customer.

You can often expect to pay between 1.5 - 3 percent commission (plus vat) to an estate agent for selling your house. This can add up to thousands of pounds.

Tracy has based her business model on extensive research into the current buying habits which show that the majority of buyer enquiries come from the internet, and not high street branches or local papers.

More specifically buyers are searching using the top 5 property portals, Zoopla, findaproperty, primelocation,

rightmove, propertyfinder. To market your property effectively, you must have it listed on one of these portals.

Homes Online UK advertises on these major portals, and many others and their fees start as low as £199.

Homes Online UK are members of The Estate Agency ombudsman Scheme, so are subject to the same laws governing traditional estate agents

How are you doing with your new years resolutions? Now we are in March it is getting harder to keep up our new years resolutions. And the big one – lose weight and get fit - is the hardest one of all.

Most of us know what to do to eat healthily, and to look after our body. But something gets in the way, it could be achy joints, acid/reflux, high blood pressure, or even the potential for diabetes onset. It could be that it becomes a struggle to run up the stairs, or bend down, and do all the things that were easy to do before the weight went on.

If you have one stone or more to lose and want to make 2012 the year that you do something about your weight you are not alone. LighterLife, endorsed by actress Pauline Quirk, is there to lend a helping hand.

Unlike other weight-loss regimes LighterLife is about so much more than a diet - it’s about making long-term changes to improve your health and lifestyle.

Through the use of nutritionally balanced soups, shakes and bars, you are able to lose weight quickly and safely. This is combined with weekly single-sex group meetings, run by local LighterLife Weight-Management Counsellor Lisa Maidment, that are designed to help you explore some of the reasons why you put on weight other than simply ‘eating too much’.

With diabetes and obesity on the increase, programmes such as LighterLife could

not only be the answer to providing an effective weight loss option for the obese, but also a way to permanently reverse the symptoms of type II diabetes. Also when you lose weight your blood pressure may naturally reduce in line with your weight loss.

Lisa says: “We only get one body, and we can help people live lighter for life and feel comfortable, and not be constantly yo-yo dieting - to learn effective skills to manage their weight forever.”

LighterLife has helped more than 250,000 people in the UK and Republic of Ireland lose weight and keep it off. Speak to Lisa today, and make this lifestyle change one that sticks.

For further information:

call Lisa Maidment on 01564 82 28 28 or visit www.lighterlife.com

Cycle challenge raises money for the One Handed Musical Instrument ProjectStephen Hetherington recently set off on his B2B Cycle Challenge riding from Birmingham to Bordeaux in support of The One-Handed Musical Instrument Project with the support of family and friends and Tyndallwoods Solicitors Martin, Harriet and Judy.

There is presently no orchestral musical instrument than can be played with one hand. As a result hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities in the UK, and millions across the world, are excluded from music making.

The project aims to invent new instruments to open full and undifferentiated participation in musical life; whether at school, in the home, or in a professional ensemble. The success of the project will have a profound impact not just on individuals but on society’s relationship with disability, opening new

realms of achievement and possibility.

Stephen Hetherington, the project founder, was setting off on his solo Birmingham to Bordeaux bicycle ordeal, a trip of some 1000 kilometres, taking around ten days and he was sent off with a powerful rendition of The Dam Busters by musicians of the CBSO conducted by Michael Seal shown with Stephen Maddock, CBSO Chief Executive.

If you want to find out more about the wonderful work of this charity please visit their website at www.ohmi.org.uk

Representing yourself in court? You need not be aloneAn innovative charity called the Personal Support Unit is being set up in Birmingham Civil Justice Centre. It provides emotional and practical support to litigants in person (people who represent themselves in court).

Jimmy Clarke explains why this service is vital for Birmingham and what you can do to help.

For many the very thought of attending a civil court is daunting enough. But imagine if you were attending alone, without legal support, legal advice or even a friend to provide moral support. This is the reality facing thousands of Birmingham residents every year.

People who represent themselves in court are often extremely nervous and stressed. The experience itself can make them ill. Many have difficulty reading or writing. Some have mental illness.

The Personal Support Unit can make a huge difference. The PSU was established ten years ago to provide a simple service to litigants in person. They have a small

team of volunteers in Manchester, Cardiff, London and Liverpool who invest their time and energy into providing practical and emotional support.

A branch of this vital service is currently being established in Birmingham. Now they are looking for a team of volunteers who can give two days a month to help litigants in person practically and emotionally.

You can make a difference by volunteering, making a donation or telling a friend about it. To sign up you do not need a legal background, all you need is intuition and time.

So what are you waiting for? Get involved!

Volunteer Appeal Are you looking for volunteer work that is engaging,

challenging, interesting and rewarding? Who are we? The PSU provide non-legal practical and emotional support to litigants in person (people attending court without legal representation), their friends, families and supporters and other court users in the civil and family courts. Our unique service is free, confidential and independent.

What do we do? We do not give legal advice. We have a small office in the civil and family courts in Birmingham. Clients can book an appointment or walk in to receive guidance from volunteers. Volunteers invest their time, skills and energy to solve clients’ problems and accompany them through the court proc-ess. This could mean filling out a form on someone’s behalf, giving people space to unburden and de-stress, accompany people into court for emotional support or liaising with other agencies to in-sure a client is receiving all of the help they need.

Who are we looking for?PSU volunteers are a mixed group. We consist of retired professionals, professionals on a career brake, part time workers and many more. The one thing every PSU volunteer has is intuition, a calm and mature personality and the willingness to dedicate two days a month to the PSU. The following is a list of typical requirements and attributes that PSU volunteers possess.

No need to have a legal background Ability to work reliably within a rota system Commitment to undertake PSU training Willingness to work within the framework of equal opportunities Willingness to adhere to a policy of confidentiality Ability to listen and communicate with a wide range of people Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing Applicants will be subject to a CRB check and an interview

How to get involved If you would like to get involved, want to speak to somebody about the opportunity or wish to receive more information about the PSU, please email or call Jimmy

Calling all budding writersDo you have a burning issue you would like to tell the local community about?

My Kings Heath is developing its editorial pages and looking for the stories out there that would be of interest to the readers if only they knew about them.

1. We can give your community group a voice.

2. We can help you publicise events in the area.

3. We can spread the word about up and coming musicians, artists, writers.

4. We can raise the profile of issues affecting the wider community.

Kings Heath is a vibrant, diverse and lively suburb that My Kings Heath is proud to be a part of and we are keen to represent it within these pages in the best way possible.

A photograph can tell a thousand words, so make sure you have a good selection to support your story, or if necessary we can take supporting photographs.

Deadlines are crucial – we need any content before the 10th of the month for the following months issue and often earlier than that in order to plan it in.

Since the launch of My Kings Heath in 2009 we have written about countless events, charities, community organisations and tourist attractions – but we want more!

So don't be shy.

If you have something you want to get off your chest then call the editor:Amy Watson on 689 0432 or email [email protected]
