INSTALLING MIUI - Samsung i9000

If you are new to flashing, this can seem like a uphill battle, the purpose of this section is designed to make sure you have a clean fresh install, coming from any firmware. It is important you take the time to read over this section, as doing things wrong could end up causing you all sorts of issues when using the new installation. Make sure you have the MIUI flash Zip on your External SD.

Step 1 - Froyo (2.2.1) BootloaderIn order to have working WIFI, SD Cards and more whilst using MIUI you must first revert back to a Froyo 2.2.1 bootloader. Many people complain of these not working and later find out that it is simply down to the fact of being on a Gingerbread (2.3) Bootloader. If you are not sure about which bootloader your currently on then please follow this step before continuing on to number 2.

Using a Windows PC, make sure you have installed Samsung Kies and all the drivers required for you mobile phone. Now download and open ODIN (a flashing suite).

In the PDA Section of Odin, load in the file “GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar”. Select 512pit as the PIT and check the re-partition tab is ticked. Now on your mobile phone turn it off and hold down the Volume Down + Home Key + Power Button. This will enter download mode. Now connect your mobile to your PC via USB and wait for the READY status on Odin.

Now click on the START BUTTON and wait for the flash process to complete before continuing. Once completed you will have the correct setup to continue to the next stage.

Step 2 - SpeedMod KernelWhilst doing step 1 you installed a new Kernel onto your handset, don’t worry this isn’t a bad thing, it simply helps us move onto the next stage of flashing quickly. The Kernel included a modified recovery system, which allows you to install Custom Firmware (Roms) onto your handset.

We are going to enter this new Recovery System now, by turning the mobile phone off. Next we will hold down “Volume Up + Home Button + Power”, wait for the Samsung Screen to Display and let go the power button. After a few seconds you will enter the new Recovery Menu.

Now navigate using your Volume Key (Up and Down) and Power Button (Enter) to install MIUI on your mobile phone. Firstly Navigate to Mounts and Storage and Wipe the System, Cache, Data and DataData. Once done, return to the first screen by going Back. Now we are going to go to Install Zip From SD Card, and Select the MIUI file you have download, etc.. Galnet-MIUI.zip Now press the Power Button (Enter) and the rom installation will start. You may experience a couple of reboots whilst this occurs.

Once completed the phone will either restart automatically and load (Please give up to 10 minutes) and enter MIUI without any issues. If something should go wrong, simply enter Recover (Now Orange) and Simply Wipe Cache, System, Data, and Datadata and then Install the MIUI file again.

USING MIUIAs you have an Android phone, going over how to make calls etc isn’t worth doing, so instead we are going to highlight the changes MIUI has done to the way you do things. Firstly there is no application drawer, everything installed on your phone is displayed on “Screens” like the iPhone.

On holding down to add a widget on your Screen your notice you have options at the top. The one on the Left is to change your wallpapers, then middle is the Recycle Bin and the Right one which is your widget drawer. Click on this and your see your widgets are no longer in a list format but in a nice menu style which you can scroll through, simply find the widget required and drag in to the screen required.

WIDGETS

It is the same process to add a folder as it is to add a Widget. Simply hold down the screen, wait on the icons to appear, and then drag the Folder Widget to the required screen.
