In the past, software for calculating anddimensioning switchgear was helpful nowadays its absolutelyessential.Mitsubishi Electrics MELSHORT2 is a complete software packagethat provides all the functions needed for successful switchgearsystemconfiguration and layout. It supports all modern interna-tional electrical engineering standards and shines with simpleand reliable operation. The programcalculates the short-circuit levels and currents at allnecessary points for all switchgear components, including thepower supply transformer and circuit breakers, the emergencygenerators, the individual motor and capacitor group branch cir-cuits and all the other power distribution circuits, down to the lastcircuit breaker. This makes it possible to select the ideal breakerfor every task, for optimumperformance and cost-efficiency.MELSHORT2 has a comprehensive range of powerful, easy-to-usefunctions, including: Selective shutdown Backup protection Coordination with the main power supply systems Allowance for the start-up currents of electric motorsThese functions make it possible to optimise the configuration ofyour switchgear equipment for the specific requirements of yourapplications. The calculated results, the hardware model suggestions and thewiring diagramwith all the relevant values can be processed andused as documentation for the switchgear installation. Anotherwelcome extra is the free Internet update service.Specifications MELSHORT2Operating system MS Windows 95/98/NT4.0/2000Disk type CD-ROMArt. no. 129115Circuit diagramof the network to be Thecontrol voltagerangeis 70100%of rated voltage. The shunt trip enables an MCCB to be usedin combination with an ELR. Lead-wireterminalblock(SLT)The terminal blockis used for bringingout the connectionsof the internalaccessories. The cassette typeaccessories are alsoavailable as internalterminal type with-out terminal block. The connectioncables are leadout of the breakerhousing in line-sidedirection. So it ispossible to mountseveral breakerseasy side-by-sidein a row.Internal AccessoriesModular cassette type accessoriesThe newarrangement and design ofpluggable accessories such as indicatorand auxiliary contacts allows you tomodify the circuit in a way that saves timeand space at any time, evenwhenbuilt inandready for operation. The presence of separate circuit chambersmakes the systemeven safer. Thus cassette type accessories ensureflexibility when upgrading circuits. The cassette type accessories are availablein several versions and fit for breaker seriesfrom32 A up to 800 A: alarmswitch (AL) auxiliary switch (AX) alarmand auxiliary switch (AL+AX) shunt trip device (SHT) undervoltage trip device (UVT)with lead-wire terminal block as standard. In addition you can choose the lead-wireversion or the internal terminal type as anoption.Alarmswitch (AL)Provides for indication that the MCCBhas tripped.Auxilliary switch (AX)Provides for indication of whether thebreaker is ONor OFF.For the breakers of the Super Series, 1000 A up to 1600 A, please contact your Distributor.Lead-wire terminal blockExample: ALAXInternal terminal typeExample: SHTUndervoltage trip (UVT)The tripping voltage is 3570 %of therated voltage. When the voltage recov-ers toat least 85 %, the breaker can bemanually closed or reset.Provides for electrical interlock, and isused where electrical machines needto be protected against voltage drop.25 MITSUBISHI ELECTRICINTERNALACCESSORIESINTERNAL ACCESSORIES ///Lead-Wire Terminal Block (SLT)ALAX-2GSWLSMITSUBISHIELECTRICAL95 c14 a96 b12 b98 a11 cAXALARMSWITCHACACDCDC125V250V125V250V5A3A0.4A0.2A98ALa96ALb98ALcAUXILIARYSWITCHACACDCDC125V250V125V250V5A3A0.4A0.2A11AXc12AXb14AXaApplicationAll cassette-type accessories areequipped with the Lead-wire terminalblock SLT as standard. The terminal cover for the lead-wireterminals is available for the safety oflive parts. It is available for front connection type, rear connection type and plug-In type. A cut-off switch is integrated. The allowable tripping voltage is 70%to 110%of the rated voltage for both AC and DC.page 28UVT (Undervoltage trip)The undervoltage trip UVT trips the breaker automatically when the voltage drops. The tripping voltage is 35%to 70%of therated voltage. For details, consult your distributor. The values in parentheses ( ) showstarting current.General precautions for motor-operated electrical MCCBs The motor operated types should notbe operated 10 times consecutively(one on/off counts as an operation). The operating voltage should bebetween 85 110 %of the rated con-trol voltage. The current breaker position ON, OFFor TRIPPED will be shown with a specialdisplay on the motor. The dielectric strength of the electricaloperating circuits is 1500 V. When per-forming a dielectric strength testsimultaneously with another device ata voltage over 1500 V, the operatingcircuit terminal should be discon-nected.Automatic ResetIf the breaker is an auto reset type, it con-tains a built-in alarmswitch and theoff-control circuit close when the breaker istripped. Since the breaker automaticallyresets itself after tripping, the power is eas-ily restored by switching on the breakeragain. With a UVT mounted, however, autoreset may not be possible. In this case, please consult your distributor. This chargesthe spring at the same time.Cautions during electrical operationWhen an electrical-operation device ismounted in a breaker or removed fromanbreaker, this device must be returned tothe discharged state after tripping of thebreaker.A MCCB with an electrical-operation devicewill not trip in the OFF state "PUSHTOTRIP"is used. This does not indicate that thebreaker is faulty.Since it takes 3 sec to switch off a breakerprovided with this device, if the breakerneeds to be opened urgently by remotecontrol, a breaker fitted with an SHT or UVTshould be used. The breaker is equipped with a relay for theprevention of pumping.Control circuitFor breakers with automatic resettingcapability, add the connection indicated bythe dotted line in the diagrams.
