COMMUNITY ACCESS SESSIONS

These sessions are generally held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 5.30pm. Passionate about something? Have a great idea you think needs to be heard? Then why not come along and tell your Councillors about it. The next Community Access Sessions will be held on Wednesday 4 September 2019 and 18 September 2019.

Any topic that relates to the business of the local government can be discussed in these sessions. Can I talk about something that’s on the Council agenda at this session? YES!

This early closure is to facilitate a CinefestOz function which is being held in the City Foyer and the Undalup Room during the afternoon and evening.

DRAFT RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN

COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONCommunity members are invited to view and comment on the draft Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for the City of Busselton. Over the last 3 years, the City has been working with Aboriginal community members to inform the plan, which has included conversations with individuals, groups and associations. These aspirations and ideas have been compiled into the draft RAP.Through June-August 2019, over 400 copies were distributed to the Aboriginal community for feedback. The City now invites the broader community to view the draft RAP and participate in the conversation.

The document can be accessed via Your Say and hard copies are available at the City Administration Building, Busselton and Dunsborough Libraries, SWAMS at the Busselton Hospital and various medical centres.

NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURES - CINEFESTOZ 2019Please be advised that Albert Street (between Pries Ave and Queen St) will be closed to traffic on the following dates and times:

Wednesday 28 August 2019 – 5.15pm – 9pmFriday 30 August 2019 – 5pm – 10.30pmSaturday 31 August 2019 – 5.30pm – 9.30pm

The closure is required to facilitate safe passage for CinefestOZ patrons from Victoria Square to Orana Cinemas.

GO! WORLD PREMIERE

In addition to the above road closures, the following additional roads will be temporarily closed on Wednesday 28 August from 5.15pm to 5.45pm to facilitate a go kart activation to celebrate the world premiere of the movie GO! (starring our own beautiful City!):

• Causeway Road: northbound traffic – 5.15pm – 5.20pm : left turn only at Peel Terrace after that • Peel Terrace (between Queen St & Pries Ave): eastbound only to be closed • Queen Street (between Peel Tce & Albert St): northbound only to be closed • Albert Street (between Queen St & Pries Ave): closed both directions • Pries Avenue: closed both directions

Road closure signs and associated detours will be in place. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Spectators are welcomed to cheer on the go karts and welcome the stars to the red carpet.

Mitchell Park Revitalisation Join the Conversation

The City is currently planning the redevelopment of Mitchell Park inthe Busselton City Centre.

The City recently held a series of community workshops to explore how together we can create vibrant city centres. Mitchell Park Revitalisation featured strongly at the Busselton workshops. You expressed a desire to create a safe, welcoming and versatile space where people want to ‘hang out’.

The City will hold a Community Consultation session & free sausage sizzle where you can view the concept plans, express feedback, and/or raise questions/concerns.

MAYORAL-PRAYER-BREAKFAST- 4 -

OCTOBER-2019

The 2019 Mayoral Prayer Breakfast has been set for Friday, 4 October 2019.

Any proceeds derived from the breakfast will be directed toward this year’s benefactor, YouthCARE and the City’s Breakfast Club program. Coordinated through YouthCARE, the Breakfast Club is one of the largest programs run in WA state schools. Providing students with a healthy kick start to the day has enabled many students across a number of local schools to improve their productivity while at school.

An excellent Keynote Speaker has been engaged this year. Dr Casta Tungaraza MAICD, Director of Ausafritrade Pty Ltd and Chair of the Government’s Advisory Group on Australia-Africa Relations (AGAAR), has a global insight into youth issues.

Casta is known for her advocacy and long-term service for gender equality and economic empowerment of women. Inducted in the WA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2012, Casta has been recognised and awarded nationally and internationally for her commitment to the prevention and eradication of violence against women and children.

Nominations Requirements

Candidates are required to lodge with the Returning Offi cer:• a completed nomination in the prescribed form, signed and witnessed. (This form is available

from the Returning Offi cer, the Western Australian Electoral Commission or the City of Busselton;• a single A4 page profi le containing not more than 150 words of information about the candidate;• a nomination deposit of $80 (cash, bank cheque or postal order); • a recent passport-sized photograph (optional);• every candidate must complete the online candidate induction module available at

www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au

The Commission has developed an online system called Nomination Builder to assist candidates to complete their nomination form which includes the candidate profi le. This is the preferred method of completing the nomination form and profi le for elections conducted by the Commission. Candidates complete their nomination details and profi le, print the completed form which has a reference number allocated and lodge it with the Returning Offi cer. The nomination builder can be accessed at elections.wa.gov.au

Where an agent lodges a nomination on a candidate’s behalf, it must be in the prescribed form with a written authorisation signed by the candidate.

The documents may be hand delivered, posted or faxed to the Returning Offi cer and must be received by the close of nominations.
