The Little School That Did
DAR DELIVERS GENEROUS GIFTS
The DAR ( Daughters of the American Revolution) brought Christmas cheer to Missouri City School during the holidays in a beautifully decorated wagon posing as a Santa sleigh. Jerre Robertson and Sharon Bugg brought Christmas pre-sents and money to give to Mis-souri City School and the chil-dren. One check was from the DAR and another check was from the SAR Auxiliary.
The Christmas tree at their head-quarters was decorated with very nice school supplies during Christmas and those were deliv-ered to the school after the holi-days when the tree was taken down. A big thank you goes to Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Bugg, the DAR and the SAR auxiliary for these
wonderful gifts. —Jay Jackson

Missouri City students have been participat-
ing in many STEM (Science, Technology, Engineer-
ing, and Mathematics) activities. One of the favorite
activities was our dissection unit in science class.
We started the unit with a dissection of grasshop-
pers. The students were very excited about this and
did a lot of research before we actually did the dis-
section. They really understood what they were
doing and what
parts they were
looking at by the
end of the lesson.
They were able to
explain the differ-
ent parts of grass-
hoppers and what the parts do for the grasshop-
per.
The next day we learned about the parts of a fish,
frog, starfish, and a clam. The students learned
how to use dissection tools and more about differ-
ent body systems and body parts. The grand finale
was a shark dissection. They were able to feel the shark’s skin, and dissect the
whole animal. The students loved the unit and are already talking about next year.
It is always exciting to try a new unit especially when it is such a hit and the stu-
dents are excited
to learn and
can’t wait to
come to school.
We will defi-
nitely do this
activity again.

SCOOP FROM THE KITCHEN—STUDENTS
PREPARE CHRISTMAS D INNER
The kids at Missouri City School had a great time preparing the Christmas dinner for their family and friends. They were so excited about having their families come to school to have lunch with them! K-2 prepared green bean casserole and 3-8 made sugar cookies and decorated them the next day. We also had ham, sweet potatoes, and rolls to go along with what the students prepared. What a great way to end the holiday season with a great dinner for their family and friends. Hope everyone is having a won-derful New Year!

BOOK REVIEW—AMONG THE HIDDEN
This book is 1 out of 7 total books in the Shadow Children series. I found this book very entertaining. I never knew what was going to hap-pen next. Can you imagine never going outside or only having your family to talk to? Well, this is what life was like for a boy named Luke. Luke was born before the government came out with a population law. This law de-
clared that you could have no pets and only two children. Luke’s mother and fa-ther always work. His two brothers, Mathew and Mark, were always busy with school and their friends. Therefore, Luke was left alone most of the time. Luke did-n’t know that there was a law against him, he just thought most children had to hide. Luke hid in his attic his whole life, until one day…
I would highly recommend this book to anybody. I would rate this book 5 stars
out of 5 stars and I can’t wait to read the next 6 books!

January Blue Train presentations were both informative and entertaining. Emery McCollum, above, did a presentation on letter sounds. Danny McKown, upper right, gave an entertaining presentation on Dr. Seuss, one of Danny’s favorite authors. Ozzie Ayers, lower right, gave a presenta-tion on the snowy owl. Ozzie had a real stuffed snow owl to show to the audience. All three students were poised and confi-dent in presenting.

During the last week of school,
before Christmas break, the stu-
dents played a series of Christmas
games. One of their favorite
games to play is called the Grinch.
In this game, there is a Christmas
tree in the center of the gym with
yarn balls on it that portray orna-
ments. Two students represent
the people of Whoville, and the
rest of the students play the
Grinch. The students playing the
Grinch quietly walk toward the
tree and begin taking ornaments.
If a sound is heard, the music
starts, and the students from
Whoville wake up and find the
Grinch stealing their ornaments.
The students playing the Grinch
then try not to get tagged by the
Whoville people while they are
stealing ornaments and taking
them back to their domain. The
students loved this game.
The students also played a relay
game where they had to build
the best snowman out of the
equipment they collected. These
are pictures of each group.

There are many people who have an impact on the lives of Missouri City students. Students are fortunate to have many people who are concerned with making their school experience great. Above, Teresa McKown, Missouri City Elemen-tary secretary listens to Brycen Stephens and gives advice. Teresa is also shown reading to students in the primary class-room. The students love listening to her read, and Ms. Darr gets a well-deserved break. Teresa does so much for Mis-souri City kids. Students and staff appreciate all she does for the school and community.
Laura Miller, School Board member and grandmother to Charlie Miller, Emery McCollum, and Cruze McCollum attends many school events. She is shown congratulating Emery on her Blue Train.
Sue Selle, School Board member and cheerleader coach, is shown at a basketball game. Sue gives a lot of time to training and sponsoring cheerleading at Missouri City.
Gary Thomas, Missouri City bus driver, makes sure students have a safe trip to and from school. He also transports students on field trips and to ballgames.

During the month of October, Missouri City School partici-pated in the 3rd Annual Gro-cery Grab at Constantino’s Price Chopper in Liberty MO. The drawing was on De-cember 2nd and I received 7 phone calls from winners who went on to the December 9th drawing. Out of the 7 calls 5 of the them went on to that final round and 2 had to de-cline. I want to thank all that bought raffle tickets for $5. This is a 100% profit for the school. All proceeds went to help our little school. Sher-ry Gray, our cook; Kelly Turner, volunteer; Brian Ad-
cock, parent; Kitty McNary;
and Danielle Roethler from our PERC committee all moved on to the December 9th. Congratulations to Brian Ad-cock for winning the 5 Minute Grocery Grab. He won over $1500 in groceries and gifts. Each of the other final-ists won a $100 gift card to spend. You are all winners in our books.
