Circulation:What Do All These Wizards Do?
Presented byJessie Goodwin and Jemma Hazen
Things to Remember
• Always check the properties – many times there are behavior and default options that can save a ton of time and repetitive actions
• Open the property page (with right click) and push F1 to bring up the context help to explain all the options
• “Helpers” put additional functionality into the wizards, but if you don’t need them, turn them off to avoid clutter!
Right Click Menu
• The vast majority of everything we will go over is also available by right clicking on anitem on the screen – so remember that’s an option
Item Search and Display
• Set the default tab in Properties to make this more user-friendly
• 2nd row of tabs shows useful infolike current patron, bills, holds, etc
Easy ways to adjust due dates
• Special Due Date helper in Check Out– Use gadget– 3 options for duration of
special date--pay attention to which you choose
• Modify Due Date wizard for already charged items– you can change a group or individual items
Duplicate User check
• Turn on in the User Registration properties
• You decide what it will check against
• Will return results for all the MSC libraries
User Claims Returned
• Use gadget to set date – and Mark Items at bottom to save changes!
• Set date claims before due date to avoid phantom fines
• Item stays on patron record – so you’ll need to deal with them eventually
• Counter on patron record doesn’t go down automatically
Mark Item Used
• Way to get stats on things that are used but not checked out
• Stats recorded in a different spot than regular circs so you can track separately
• Will give you alert pop-ups for any holds, checkouts, missing status, etc so it’s a nice double check for those piles of books that get left out
Ephemeral Checkout
• A real checkout – that gets checked back in immediately
• Needs a user barcode and an item barcode – but is great for tracking items you don’t want to barcode individually (magazines,
trade paperbacks)
Mark Item Missing
• If it should be on the shelf and isn’t – Mark It Missing!
• Helpful to staff and patrons – so nobody spends time looking for an item you already know you can’t find
• Check your properties - Should have a special Missing User – contact us if you don’t
Mark Item Lost
• If a patron loses a book – this is how you clear it from their card and charge them for it
• You might want to turn on the search helper – because this wizard only has Item Id Scan and when an item is lost you don’t usually have the barcode
• Look up the patron first – then Mark the Item Lost
Check In Bookdrop
• If you don’t fine – you don’t need this• Time travel for library books! Just set the
checkin date.• Make sure you set properties for receipts,
hold alerts, etc
Copy User
• Use to “clone” a patron for making multiple cards in the same household
• Copies last name, address, phone• Does not copy PIN• Set properties to determine whether to copy
extended info
Onshelf Items
• List of holds that need to be pulled off the shelf• Dynamic, constantly updated throughout the day• Customizable in properties• Can be printed or exported to Excel
Billing Users
• Bill user is different from Mark Item Lost. Bill user manually adds charges and doesn’t change the item status
• Mark Item Lost changes the item’s location to Lost-Claim and charges the patron
VERSUS
Adding Bills to Patron Records
Use this one to remove from patron record and charge patron
Receipt Printing• If your receipts aren’t printing correctly or you want to change the text, look at your properties
Did we miss any?
• Are there any mysterious wizards we didn’t cover?
