“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3)

There are about 100 kids who came through our church for Vacation Bible School that could repeat that from memory, if you asked. It was the main scripture verse for our VBS program this year, where we learned about how God helps us get ready for life’s “big game.” Don’t be surprised, though, if they sing it instead of reciting it! Putting that verse into our theme song for the week ensured that they will likely remember it for years to come. They will also remember “we, like sheep, have gone astray” (from Isaiah 53:6), “He is the Resurrection and the Life. All who believe in Him will never die” (from John 11:25), and “what great love the Father has given us, that we should be called His children” (1 John 3:1a). Even if they don’t understand the depth of those ideas now, that knowledge is there for them. The songs we sing stick with us, and can help us hold onto Biblical truths when we need to be reminded. For example, many of us will always be able to remember Matthew 6:33: “(but) seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” (Allelu, Alleluia!). It was a joy to help our children have a little more of God’s Word to hold onto, and it is a joy to do a little of that for all of us on Sundays! During the summer months, I get to work on two big musical endeavors. The first is Terrific Tuesdays, our summer children’s musical that we present at the end of July, which this year will feature the same Game On! music that we used for VBS. The second is our summer southern gospel choir, which features classic hymns and gospel songs, and will be presented as a sing-along at the end of the summer. The southern gospel choir is another example of the staying power of the songs we sing. Some of the members are singers in our regular choir, but many are just people who enjoy singing the music they grew up with. You can feel the joy, and the sense of connection to that heritage, when we sing those songs. (We start practicing July 8th at 4:00pm, and if you share that love for gospel music, you should join us!) We sing to remember. We sing to learn. But mostly, we sing in response to the indescribable, overwhelming love of our God, and I’m grateful for the chance to do that with all of you. In Christ, Jordan Lawson

Every Summer has a story and I have a lot to share!

We have had loads of fun this summer already with

Vacation Bible School- “Game On”. We averaged

about 100 kids each day with 50 workers. A Big

THANK YOU to all my team leaders; Jordan Lawson-

Music, Ally Williams-Missions, Debra Brooks- Crafts, Marilyn Benefield- Bible Study, Richard

Osborne-Recreation, and Barbara Self- Snacks. It was a huge success and every morning we

“Geared up and Got Ready” to study God’s word. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped

work, decorate, clean, count and sent food for the Teacher’s Appreciation room. The 20-

minute break in the Teacher’s Appreciation room is an essential part of the teacher’s day

when they are working with up to 25 children in a class.

I took 11 children to Shocco Springs for Student Life for Kid’s camp. We learned that God

will rescue everyone no matter where they are and then will use them as a rescue plan for

others. The heat was tough, but we stayed cool with lots of ice cream, pool time and the

aqua park. The children really enjoyed the surprise outing I had planned for them. We took a

group lesson on Segway’s and enjoyed riding them through an obstacle course. It was a

totally awesome camp, and everyone had a blast!

Terrific Tuesdays are going on this summer for kids in kindergarten-5th grade. We have 60

children involved in this program and It has been GREAT! We are working hard on the “Game

On” musical and enjoying all the fun afternoon adventures. This month activities are:

Earlyworks, Pump it Up, Southern Adventures, and a Movie (at church). Please mark your

calendar now for July 29th at 6:00 pm, to enjoy Game On the musical. Come watch and

support all the hard work these children have dedicated this summer.

Don’t forget the promotion date for Life Groups is August 5th. Bring your 1st graders to the

basement and 6th graders will go upstairs to the youth area. Please continue to drop off the

toddlers- kindergarten children at the nursery desk and we will adjust them accordingly.

Cheerfully in Christ,

Mary Osborne,

Children’s Ministry Director

The last Dinner Group will be a Salad Potluck Dinner at 6:00pm on July 25th.

This will be a great way to ease back into the regular Wednesday schedule which

will resume in August. Please make plans to attend on July 25th, even if you haven’t

been able to make it to any of the other dinner groups this summer.

Enjoy the summer break and make plans to be back on August 1st for Bible

study, choir and orchestra rehearsal, His Kidz, and Youth worship.

Our Terrific Tuesday kids have been

working hard all summer on their

Game On! musical. They’ve learned

lots of Biblical truths and scripture in

song. Please plan to attend the

summer finale performance at

6:00pm on Sunday, July 29th in the

sanctuary. Your presence and support will mean a lot to the children, their families,

and the adults who have worked with them all summer.

We will not have

regular Wednesday

evening activities during

the month of July.

There’s still time to get involved in Summer Dinner Groups!

On Sunday, July 8th, we’ll have

“Grandma’s Sunday Dinner”

at 6:00pm in the fellowship hall.

Bring some old-fashioned comfort food and your

favorite childhood memories. (Robby is really hoping

this evening will include some banana pudding!)

At 6:00pm on Wednesday, July 25th, we’ll have a

Salad Night. There are so many varieties of salads

(pasta salad, chicken salad, fruit salad, tuna salad,

Caesar salad, congealed salad, egg salad, chef

salad, potato salad, broccoli salad, taco salad, etc.)

The possibilities are endless! Bring your favorite

salad or check out Pinterest for some new ideas. You

may have a new favorite by the end of the night.

Even if you haven’t had an opportunity to come to any other dinners this summer,

come to one or both of the remaining dates in July. We’ve had so much fun this

summer getting to know each other better and sharing some amazing food.

Go to PerfectPotluck.com/RUAU6139 to sign up and to see ahead of time what others are bringing.
