Birds are chirping and the sun is shining. Spring is the perfect time of year to get family and friends together, so we did just that! In lieu of our usual family feast in the fall, we hosted an indoor family picnic. The gathering also served as a meet and greet for our new Administrator, Randy Sparks. Everyone had the opportunity to visit with our newest team member at the picnic. On Sunday, April 29th, friends and family
poured into our humble abode around 11:30 am. While visitors waited in line for their buffet styled lunch, Randy was able to mingle with family members. He enjoyed listening to everyone's unique background and story. The picnic themed meal consisted of BBQ pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and ice cream for dessert. The tables were decorated with beautiful yellow daisies and baby’s breath arranged in milk jar vases. Splashes of bright blue snuck into the decorating theme with blue bows tied on the vases and blue napkins. Without everyone working together, it would be impossible to throw such a fun, successful event. A special thanks to the Leadership Team for being so accommodating and the Culinary Team for preparing an exceptional meal for everyone to enjoy! Randy commented, “I would like to once again say thank you to everyone in attendance, as I enjoyed the opportunity to meet you personally. You are a proud community and I am honored to be the new administrator here at Shady Oaks. I look forward to many years of service.”

Administrator’s Corner Greetings once again, After what appears to be a long winter in Lake City we are now welcoming the warmer temperatures and sunshine. The farmers are planting in their fields, the flowers, trees and shrubbery are blooming, and the bluebirds, red headed woodpeckers, robins, and other birds that migrate for the winter have returned to share their beauty as well. Residents and family members are encouraged to utilize the courtyard and gazebo during these warm and sunny days as Mark and John will soon be filling up the pond with water and fish for everyone to enjoy.
I want to thank everyone who joined the staff and myself on Sunday, April 29, for the administrator meet and greet. It was exciting to meet everyone and to listen to stories, as some shared their history and roots of Lake City and the surrounding communities. This is a strong community that takes great pride
and honor, not only in their community, but also their family and friends. I cannot find the words to express my gratitude of support and kindness that each of you have extended towards me. I am truly blessed to be here and to be a part of each of your lives. Thank you once again for
your kindness and support that you have extended to me as your new administrator. May God bless each one of you. Randy Sparks
On Tuesday, April 17th, volunteers were greeted by Life Enrichment Assistant, Deb Zenor, as they entered Shady Oaks. The morning was full of delicious breakfast foods and chatter. This special breakfast was in honor of National Volunteer Week. Life Enrichment Coordinator, Deb Jones, collaborated with her team to create a festive “Starburst” theme for volunteers. Starburst candy favors were placed at each table setting, packaged with the appropriate saying, “We’re bursting with appreciation”. Blue, yellow and red center pieces featuring garden décor and snacks, decorated the tables which were later given away as door prizes. The breakfast consisted of homemade goodies
prepared by Deb Jones. On the menu: bacon and potato egg casserole, sausage bagel casserole, blueberry french toast bake, sweet ham, fruit, apple pie monkey bread, lemon bread, and muffins. While enjoying their buffet style breakfast, Deb Zenor went around to different volunteers to draw
numbers for door prizes. Assisting with various resident activities and outings, our smiling volunteers are always willing to help. Volunteers assist with church services, bingo, special meals, crafts, and much, much more. We continue to be blessed with a large group of volunteers that share their time and talents with us. We thank all Shady Oaks’ volunteers from the bottom of our heart!

The Life Enrichment Team held a fun presentation to share what gadgets might be in the kitchen today! From various copperware items, to an instant rice cooker, residents were entertained by cooking demonstrations and explanations of how each appliance worked. The program kicked off with Deb Jones, Life Enrichment Coordinator, sharing a pizza she made in a Perfect Pizza Crisper Pan by Copper Chef. Housekeeping Supervisor, Donna Westcott, shared her favorite gadget, a NuWave Hot Plate. This handy cooking device is what she prefers to cook her morning eggs in, as well as caramel for her famous caramel rolls! The demonstrations continued with an air fryer of which Brittany Drew, Public Relations Coordinator, brought in to share. Residents asked questions and commented on what they liked most about each device. Peggy O. commented, "The air fryer was my favorite. My son has one and it was neat to see how it works. It was nice to hear about all
the different food you can make in it too".
It’s a Spring Fling!
Kitchen Gadgets Galore
When team members signed up for a game titled “Spring Fling” they truly had no idea what they were in for! Resi-dents gathered in the dining room ready to be entertained as team members got ready to compete. Two piles of clothing (eighteen pieces in each) were at the starting line. Chairs were spaced down the length of the dining room as checkpoints for our “Spring Fling” racers. Team members went head to head flinging clothing onto their bodies any way they could. The object of the game was
to get all the garments on, run to a chair for a quick sit before they ran to the next chair and back to their original post. They then had to strip the extra clothing and throw their hands in the air to be declared the winner. A million laughs later, we had our “Spring Fling Champion”. Tracey Toms, ADON, was happy to take home bragging rights as our big winner
and commented, “I had so much fun and I know the resident’s had a good laugh too.
Creating moments of joy is what we are here for!”
Thank you Little Titans Daycare for delivering beautiful May Day flower’s door to door!
