Where Diversity is Celebrated!
PASTOR’S DESK
We have just completed a very busy and fruitful Lent/Easter season! It is important to connect the two words, busy and fruitful. We didn’t just have events and programs that make us look busy and give an impression that we are accomplishing things. The focus of our time was “Following Jesus”. We took steps to move beyond beliefs and doctrine to discover what it means to follow Jesus in our daily living. This is an ongoing task that challenges us to keep growing in our understanding of Jesus’ invitation to “follow Him” and ways to fulfill that in our daily living. No matter how busy we are as a church our actions are given purpose and meaning by our motivation to follow Jesus and share God’s love in all we do. I celebrate with you four events in April where we extended the “Good News” of God’s love with our neighbors. The first Saturday in April we were present at the Lake Mary Family Fun Day as we had a booth providing children’s crafts and information about our church. The crafts drew people to our booth and gave us an opportunity to share information about our church. In addition, we were given stage time to have the cast of “Shrek Jr. The Musical” presented a few of their songs. I want to thank those who participated in sharing the good news of our church at this event with our neighbors. Next, we had a very successful Eggstravaganza on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. Again, we had over 300 children and 600 people total on our property for a day filled with food, fun and activities. It takes many people to put on this event and I want to thank Jim Ware for organizing this day, the committee that helped him and the many volunteers that made this happen. It is almost unimaginable to think that a church our size could present an event like this, but it also demonstrates what is possible when we work together! Thanks goes to our Evangelism Ministry Chair, Sharon Desany (who also headed up our Lake Mary Family Fun Day) and the many volunteers who worked with Jim Ware to make this event a success! Also, a special thanks to Terry and Carol Grove for donating 600 hot dogs, buns and condiments! The purpose of this event is to share the love of God that we experience in the Resurrection of Jesus with the people in our community! Thanks to all who made this happen!
PASTOR’S DESK continued
On Easter Sunday morning 216 people attended our worship celebrations! This is the larges Easter attendance in the five years I have been here. On April 26, 27 and 28 Shrek Jr. The Musical was presented at our church by some children in our church and community to a little over 300 people. The children did such an amazing job presenting this wonderful story about accepting differences in people and working together to accomplish great things. Gail Bartell and Linda Wagoner worked with this talented cast for over 2 months, holding two rehearsals a week and we express our appreciation for their dedication and work on this wonderful project. As I stated before, this was a very busy time! It was also a fruitful time because it was motivated by our focus on following Jesus and our desire to share the wonderful love we have discovered in him with others in our community. Thanks to all who helped make this time fruitful and let’s keep moving together in following Jesus! Peace, Pastor Jim
IFTAR
We have also been invited by the wonderful folks at the American Muslim Community Center at 811 Wilma Street in Longwood to join them in an Iftar (which is a meal for breaking a fast) as they observe Ramadan on Thursday, May 9th. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 8:30 p.m. This will be for fourth Iftar we have been invited to and each one has been attended by members of our church and other churches in our area. They are wonderful hosts and provide an opportunity to better understand this holy season of fasting they observe. Please contact Pastor Jim if you plan to attend as RSVP is required.

Faith Sharing
A Nine Month Series (reprint)
Christianity calls on its followers to share the good news about Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15).
Sharing our faith can plant the seeds of hope in other people’s lives and can also deepen
our own relationship with God. But for many of us, the thought of talking about religion is
intimidating and awkward. We may be afraid of not saying the right words, being labeled a
religious nut, or being viewed as judgmental. Fortunately, evangelism doesn’t have to
mean standing on a street corner with a sign and bullhorn. There are many simple ways
that we can share our faith in our daily lives. Visit us here each month as we list new ways
for demonstrating our faith and letting our light shine before others (Matthew 5:16).
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15
Part 2: Tips for Creative Faith Sharing
In Daily Life
Share a smile and personal greeting with a stranger.
Offer a "God word" in conversations about current public events
(e.g. "this situation war, natural disaster, famine sure makes me thankful
for God and the way God's people are working to make this world a
better place")
Ask someone you may have hurt for forgiveness.
Model Christian behavior when you coach or attend your child's sport
events.
Speak up against injustice, evil and verbal insult.
Be clear that your perspective is informed by your faith and belief in a
loving, forgiving God.
In talking about the weather or scenery, marvel at the intricate beauty of
God's creation.
For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “I have made you a light for
the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” Acts 13:47
