To date we have received $45,805 in pledges against a goal of $56,838 or 81%. The greater indicator of our shortage to this point is that only 213 families have made a pledge of our 1350 parish families or less than 16%. As I have said before, I realize that we are in the middle of our own capital campaign and I certainly don’t want to minimize that commitment, however I would encourage anyone who has not made a pledge to the DSA to do so. I know that you have heard before that no pledge is too little, but that is certainly true. Our normal DSA pledge response is approximately 25% of our parish families pledge some amount, and I believe that if we could reach that percentage goal, even built on the backs of small pledges, that we would reach our diocesan financial goal. The funds from the DSA are what provides for faith-based counseling at Catholic Charities, supports our seminarians, creates opportunities for growth in faith through workshops such as “Called and Gifted”, supports the St. Francis Retreat Center, provides educational ministries and supports Catholic schools in the diocese just to name a few important ministries. Please join me in offering our financial support to our diocese. Thank you. We will soon be publishing our 2018-19 annual member directory. Now is a great time to contact the parish office with your updated phone numbers and addresses!

Fr. Charles Irvin

So many people are asking about Fr. Charlie. I can report that he appears to be doing really good. In fact, he was able to come to Faith Fest.

Fr. Charlie is now living in Grand Ledge at an assisted living facility.

Here is his address as I am sure he would love to get a card or a note from many of his St. Jude family.

Fr. Charlie Irvin Fairview

PO Box 40 Grand Ledge, MI 48837

Building Addition As noted in an earlier bulletin and announced at all the Masses on Faith Fest weekend, we will be building. We received final approval from the Diocesan Finance & Consultors and are awaiting the contract to be approved from the Diocesan Attorney and in receiving the Building Permit from the City of DeWitt. But it looks like we could be breaking ground the end of July (or early August at the latest).

The next step is for members of our building committee to sit down with the contractor and go through a pre-construction meeting. At that meeting we will get a better idea of when they will start and when we can schedule a ground-breaking blessing. Stay Tuned!

Next Sunday’s Scriptures

A reflection on the readings for

Mass next Sunday, July 22

God wants us to be in his peace. Our Lord insists that we take time to be still and rest in him. As difficult as it is to just stop and be still, it is important to make the time to be refreshed and to rest in the Lord’s peace. In Jeremiah, 23:1-6, God discloses that bad shepherds will be punished and a good shepherd assigned to care for the people. The second reading, Ephesians 2:13-18, talks about the peace we have in Jesus Christ. In the Gospel, Mark 6:30-34, Jesus insists that the Apostles take time to rest and be rejuvenated, for the need to care for the followers is great.

Please remember in prayer our parish members and their families that are serving in our armed forces.   Kerri, Ma , Richard, Bre , Chandra, Christopher, Stephen, Ma , Vann, Kara, Robert, Tyler, Kyle, Michael,

Joseph, Erin, Ma , Michael, Ryan, Tamara, and Dalton.

Dear God, we pray to give all of our soldiers the courage and strength to do the duty that is required of them.  May they always remember our apprecia on for the sacrifice they are making for us.  We are

thankful for the men and women who are willing to risk their lives to protect our freedom.  We ask you to go with each one of them and protect them wherever they go.  Amen

Greetings Parishioners!

I guess it has been several weeks since I have last written a bulletin article. I also can’t believe that we are in the middle of July already! Having said that, we will begin actively promoting our parish Music Ministries in August as we prepare for the upcoming season 2018-2019. Here are our program offerings: St. Jude Music Ensemble—Formerly known as the St. Jude Choir. The ideal for this ensemble is a mix of men and women, both singers and instrumentalists. Joyful Sounds—Our parish children’s choir available to boys and girls, grades 3 through 8. Hands of Grace—Our parish handbell and chime ensemble. The ideal for this ensemble is 11 ringers of men and women, high school age and up. Youth Band/Ensemble—Formerly known as the Praise Band. This ensemble will accompany our new Youth Mass format that launches in October. The ideal for this ensemble is a mix men and women, late middle school and high school age through young adult and young at heart, vocalists and instrumentalists. Cantor/Psalmist—Parishioners who lead us and guide us in prayerful yet joyful song. The ideal is a mix of men and women, high school age and up who God has graced with beautiful voices. The growth and success of these Music Ministries is up to you, the principal choir of our church. Music is a very important part of our worship, an essential part of our liturgy and part of the fabric of our faith. Musically in Christ, Patrick PS—It is vacation time...I mean moving time! Blanca and I bought a house and will be moving into it this week and next. We need more space for our growing family!
