Mission StatementThe Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado promotes equal access to justice by raising funds to provide civil legal services for low-income people in the state of Colorado.
Dear Friends,
2011 marks the Legal Aid Foundation’s 30th anniversary. In that context, the theme for this year’s Annual Report, “All Together Now,” could hardly be more appropriate.
As a legal community, you came together in 1981 in response to federal funding cuts and created the Foundation to increase and diversify funding for legal aid. Since then, you have come together year after year to maintain and grow the Foundation’s annual fund raising campaign. All together now, you generate over $1.3 million a year (and counting!) to ensure that the most essential legal needs of the poor in Colorado do not go unattended.
All together now, you save lives by providing necessary funding to help extricate women and children from violent domestic situations. All together now, you keep families intact and in their homes, and enable young children to finish the school year where they started and without interruption. All together now, you help elderly men and women
“age at home” by ensuring that they receive the home health services to which they are entitled. The list goes on and on, all as a direct result of your commitment and generosity.
“All together now” not only fittingly captures the past thirty years, but it is a clarion call going forward. Just as in 1981, legal aid is facing funding cuts that could cripple its ability to provide meaningful access to civil justice for low income Coloradans. Your continuing leadership and support are as important as ever in reaffirming the value of legal aid in our community, and the importance of protecting the legal rights of low-income people.
It has been said that “an institution is simply the lengthened shadow of a man.” That is decidedly not true of the Foundation. The Legal Aid Foundation is the lengthened shadow of a community — a community that cares deeply about equal access to civil justice and that acts generously on that commitment and gives to support the cause year after year.

Your donation to the Legal Aid Foundation supports Colorado Legal Services, which is the only agency in the state that provides free civil legal services to indigent clients in every Colorado county.
As a result of your generosity, 11,468 low-income individuals and families were served in 2010. With few exceptions, those served live at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Supporting families and children4,698 people including Wendy and her family received help with problems related to domestic abuse, divorce, custody, child support, parental rights, adoption and guardianship and other family matters.
Enhancing stability and preventing hunger1,045 people including Tina and Walter received help with problems related to disability benefits, temporary income support, food stamps, and nutritional benefits.
Ensuring fairness and maintaining economic security2,668 people including Pam received help with problems related to bankruptcy, collections, contracts, access to credit, predatory lending, loans, unfair sales practices, utilities, and other consumer issues.
Preserving homes and preventing homelessness2,249 people including Carlos and his family received help with problems related to eviction, foreclosure, public housing, landlord/tenant, and other housing matters.
Protecting rights and improving life prospectsAnother 808 others received help with problems related to access to health care, individual rights, juvenile issues, employment, education, and other civil matters.
