Glorify God

with Intentional Awareness

We have been given many gifts and blessings by our Heavenly Father. Yet, it is easy to take them for granted. Our readings today teach us that we must live with an intentional awareness of our many blessings and use them gratefully to glorify God.

Our Second Reading, from St. Paul, is a reminder of the gift of our intellect. We must nurture it well, for lack of discipline in our thoughts can lead us down a path of discontentment and fear. We are instructed by Paul to “have no anxiety at all...in everything, by prayer and petition… to make our requests known to God.…Then, the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

In our Gospel passage from Matthew, Jesus revisits the image of a vineyard to teach the importance of using our blessings well. He tells the story of a landowner who plants a vineyard and leases it to tenants before he goes on a journey. Instead of tending the vineyard, the tenants mistreat the servants in the vineyard as well as the son of the landowner, whom they kill. When the landowner realizes what the tenants have done, he puts them to death and leases his vineyard to tenants who “will give him the produce at the proper times.”

Through Baptism, we receive the God’s gift of salvation. As Christian disciples…“tenants” called to work in the “vineyard”…we must fight the tendency towards complacency and instead use our blessings to produce good fruit. This is a gift from God to be treasured above all other gifts. Jesus makes it clear that we if we squander this gift of salvation, we will lose it…a sobering truth.

Give thanks for, and pray with discernment over God’s gifts. Live in profound awareness of all He has given us.

Resolve to use all gifts – simple and great – for His glory. We will be rewarded with peace, joy and purpose as we do so.

Glorifique a Dios

con una conciencia intencional

Nuestro Padre Celestial nos ha dado muchos dones y bendiciones. Sin embargo, es fácil no nos demos cuenta. Nuestras lecturas de hoy nos enseñan que debemos vivir con una conciencia intencional por nuestras muchas bendiciones y usarlas con gratitud para glorificar a Dios.

Nuestra segunda lectura, de San Pablo, es un recordatorio del don de nuestro intelecto. Debemos nutrirlo bien, porque la falta de disciplina en nuestros pensamientos puede llevarnos por un camino de descontento y miedo. Pablo nos instruye que “no tengamos ninguna inquietud ... y que mediante la oración y petición ... podemos dar a conocer nuestras peticiones a Dios ... Y que la paz de Dios que sobrepasa todo entendimiento guardará sus corazones y mentes en Cristo Jesús . "

En nuestro pasaje del Evangelio de Mateo, Jesús vuelve a visitar la imagen de un viñedo para enseñar la importancia de usar bien nuestras bendiciones. Cuenta la historia de un terrateniente que planta un viñedo y lo alquila a los labradores antes de emprender un viaje. En lugar de cuidar la viña, los labradores maltratan a los sirvientes de la viña así como al hijo del terrateniente, a quien matan. Cuando el terrateniente se da cuenta de lo que han hecho los cultivadores, les da muerte y arrienda su viñedo a otros cultivadores que si "le darán el producto en el momento adecuado".

A través del bautismo, recibimos el regalo de la salvación de Dios. Como discípulos cristianos ... "labradores" llamados a trabajar en la "viña" ... debemos luchar contra la tendencia a la complacencia y, en cambio, utilizar nuestras bendiciones para producir buenos frutos. Este es un regalo de Dios para ser atesorado por encima de todos los demás regalos. Jesús deja en claro que, si desperdiciamos este regalo de salvación, lo perderemos ... es una verdadera lección para todos nosotros.

Da gracias y ora con discernimiento sobre los dones de Dios. Vive con profunda y con conciencia de todo lo que nos ha dado.

Toma la determinación de usar todos los dones, grandiosos y simples, para Su gloria.

Y seremos recompensados con paz, gozo y propósito al hacerlo.

Prayer in the Atrium The greatest need and capacity of young children is for relationship, along with celebration of that relationship. Young children are the ones who are the most open to and delighted with gifts (which is God’s primary way of communication with us!). No surprise then that they have a tremendous

capacity for prayer. We must help them to pray in a way that truly corresponds to their needs and capacities, and these are very different than for adults. When given time and space and beautiful materials that offer the opportunity for reflection, children’s prayer takes different forms: silence, enjoyment (evidenced by signs of pleasure), song, praise, and thank-yous. Prayers of petition and memorization of traditional Catholic prayers are saved for the older child once he/she has developed a more spontaneous and natural dialog with God. To nurture this prayer life in young children, there are important tools and ways to use them: a sacred space for prayer, silence, the proclamation of the Good News (from both Bible and liturgy), the opportunity to respond at that moment, and then the opportunity to further respond through a work of the hands, meaning a chosen activity.

Oración en el Atrio La mas grande necesidad y capacidad del niño pequeño es la de relacionarse, simultáneamente celebrando esta relación. Niños pequeños son los que están mas abiertos y encantados con estos regalos (la cual es la forma primeria de Dios de comunicarse con nosotros). No nos sorprendamos entonces de que ellos tienen una tremenda capacidad para orar. Debemos de ayudarlos a orar en una forma que verdaderamente corresponda a sus necesidades y capacidades, y estas son muy diferentes a las de los adultos. Cuando se les es dado tiempo y espacio y materiales bonitos que ofrecen la oportunidad para reflexión, la oración de los niños toma diferentes formas: silencio, entretenimiento (evidenciados por signos de placer), canciones, alabanzas y gracias. Oraciones de petición y memorización de oraciones tradicionales católicas son reservadas para los niños mayores cuando ellos han desarrollado un dialogo mas natural y espontaneo con Dios. Para nutrir esta vida de oración en niños pequeños, hay importantes herramientas y formas de usarlas: un espacio sagrado para oración, silencio, la proclamación de las Buenas Nuevas (ambas de la Biblia y la Liturgia), la oportunidad de responder en ese momento, y entonces la oportunidad de respuesta futura a través del trabajo con sus manos, significando escoger una actividad.
