Mission Overview
• The main purpose of this mission is to test the Bluetooth technology used to communicate data between MR and MRS SAT
• Compare the data sent and data received after recovery to determine success/failure rate
3
SHOT II / UN-6 Connection
• M-SAT consists of two separate satellites that will communicate using Bluetooth technology
• During the UNP-6 mission, MRS SAT’s GPS position data will be transmitted via Bluetooth to MR SAT where MR SAT will process the data for formation control purposes
• Verify Bluetooth operation over extended range
4
SHOT II Design and Test Details
• Each payload will contain a microcontroller and Bluetooth module– The microcontroller has an 8051 architecture– The Bluetooth module is a BlueGiga WT11-E
• Modules hidden to prevent interference
• During the testing, the prototype box proved that it was capable of surviving the extreme stress that may take place during the mission– ~545 g per sat– Whip test– Drop test– Stair test
5
Expected Results
• The two payloads should be able to communicate throughout the mission– The transmitting box sat will send a string of characters in a repeating pattern to
the receiving box sat– The transmitting box will record the number of characters sent and the receiving
box will store the actual characters for later comparison
• A ground range test was performed and the boxes functioned to a distance of 155 m
6
Demonstration
• The two boxes will be separated to test the range of the Bluetooth
• A light has been placed on each box to display when the boxes are connected and transmitting
