Mission Orbiter MarsAsias first country to reach marsAugust 4, 2012: Cabinet clears the Mars MissionUnion Cabinet cleared the mission to Mars on Friday. The launch is slated for November 2013.The space commission gave its clearance for mission in December last. This project comes on the heels of Chandrayaan mission to moon. The concept began with feasibility study in 2010.

The spacecraft will go five times around the earth, before going out of earth centric orbit to sun centric orbit on December 1.Mission has now been taken over by ISRO Telementry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore.NSSDC ID of Indias Mars Mission is 2013-060AAccording to a satellite tracking system website, at 1.09 PM spacecraft had just crossed Nigeria and was flying over Chad, in African continent.http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/mars-mission-on-track-orbit-to-be-raised-on-thursday/articleshow/25317904.cms

The plan includes, 4 adjustments first happening in December 11. Rest April 2014, August 2014 and then 10 days before orbit insertion in September 14http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2013/11300724-mars-orbiter-mission-ready.html

TCM-2 was performed on June 11, 2014 at 4:30 pm. At that point, distance between Earth and spacecraft was 102 million kmThe spacecraft has travelled 466 million km as part of its 680 million km total journey. It was also reported all 5 scientific instruments were in good health.Another TCM is planned in August, before performing Mars Orbit Insertion.http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2014-06-12/news/50536605_1_mars-orbiter-mission-mars-orbit-insertion-indian-deep-space-network

This took the spacecraft 100 km away from trajectory, but with different set of commands, it was brought back to ideal orbital insertion.http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Mars-spacecraft-test-fired-successfully-to-enter-red-planets-orbit-on-Wednesday/articleshow/43150229.cms

This totally MADE IN INDIA effort has created a history. Mr. Modi noted that this mission was even cheaper than a Hollywood movie. http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/mangalyaan-in-mars-orbit-history-created-says-pm-narendra-modi-597040s
