CPR Training for Family and Friends On Saturday, October 17, 2009 - Staten Island Emergency Medical Training Center, Staten Island Heart Society and Epsilon Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing will host American Heart Association’s CPR For Family and Friends, two hour CPR training course. This CPR awareness program is designed for family members, moms, dads, grandparents, babysitters, and members of the general community who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card. Participants will receive a course attendance certificate. The techniques covered include adult and child rescue breathing, hands-on CPR, choking relief and external chest compressions using hands on practice with manikins. There will also be a demonstration of the application and use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

This program is designed to increase awareness about the importance of CPR training and to support the effort to strengthen the “chain of survival” – a critical four-step process that can mean the difference between life and death for someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke or other medical emergency. Early CPR is the second “link” in the chain of survival. The American Heart Association believes that a strong chain of survival nationwide, featuring more people trained in CPR and the widespread availability of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), could result in 40,000 or more lives saved each year from sudden cardiac arrest.

Location: Moore Catholic High School, Gym, 100 Merrill Ave., S.I., NY 10314

Date and Time: Saturday, October 17th, 10:00am to 12:30pm

Fee: The fee for this course is usually $25.00; but to reach out and train as many

people as possible, the fee will be $15.00, which will go to the Staten Island Heart

Society as a 100% tax-deductible donation. Proceeds to benefit the Staten Island
