‘HOPE REVOLUTION’ OVERVIEW

HOPE Revolution is a national multi-agency youth movement which seeks to see young people live out their relationship

with Jesus and fulfil His command ‘to go and make disciples of all nations’. It is a movement which challenges young people to see their schools, neighbourhoods and communities as their mission field, responding to the truth that ‘The Harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few’ (Matthew 9:37). We believe that as we unite together in our call to mission, and boldly share our faith through our words and actions, we will see something of God’s Kingdom poured out in our nation.

MISSION MORE: Building towards a massive year of mission in 2014, we want to empower and release young people to do mission MORE in our villages, towns and cities. We seek to serve a generation of missionally minded young people where word and action mission becomes a lifestyle of living and where daily risks are taken to communicate the good news of Jesus.

MISSION TOGETHER:HOPE Revolution works in unity with youth agencies and denominations to respond to the words of Jesus who prays that we may ‘be brought together in complete unity to let the world know that you sent me’, (John 17:23). Therefore, as youth and mission agencies together, we seek to mobilise young people from across cultures and backgrounds to unite in mission, and make God’s love known TOGETHER.

MISSION IN WORD AND ACTION:We believe that young people are effective when they get out of their comfort zones and make noise for Jesus and we recognise that young people can be excellent ‘good news’ bringers. Therefore we will empower young people to share hope and shout out the good news of the gospel through what they say and what they do. Both WORD AND ACTION are central to an authentic lifestyle of mission. ‘Do more,

do it together, and do it in Word and

action.’

THE MISSION ACADEMY:

INTRODUCTION

The HOPE Revolution Mission Academy sprang from a widespread desire to see a fresh move of God upon our nation

in the coming years.

We firmly believe that where there is unity, there the Lord commands a blessing (Psalm 133) and it is this desire for God’s blessing upon the UK that has birthed the HOPE Revolution Mission Academy.

HOPE Revolution is the youth arm of HOPE and consists of the many partners detailed on the back cover. God has burdened our organisations to work together building a great sense of faith and expectation for the future of our nation as we build towards a massive year of mission throughout 2014.

Through HOPE Revolution and the launch of The Mission Academy, we seek to equip young people for a lifelong service in mission. Together, we desire to see young people raised up as leaders in their own right, with a missional mindset that sees word and action mission occur as a natural

daily rhythm of life. We believe that as organisations working together we could see a revolution of hope sweep across our land, as God’s love and power comes in new and exciting ways.

The Mission Academy offers an encouraging and supportive environment, where young people can be challenged to develop ongoing mission ideas that effectively and relevantly communicate the love of God to the world around them. Young people will be expected to put their learning and ideas into practice, gathering support from their churches and peers to deliver word and action mission opportunities. We hope that The Mission Academy will develop a DNA of mission that underpins each young person’s faith, and will be seen in every aspect of all that they are and do.

VALUE STATEMENTS:

QUALITIES: The Mission Academy

seeks to stimulate and nurture qualities in the young people;

such as a pioneering spirit, leadership, creativity, faith-

filled thinking and confidence in what they can do in

God’s strength to reach out to others.

LIVING LIFE 1-2-3:

Modelling accountability, discipleship and mission, The Mission Academy embraces

‘Living life 1-2-3’ which encourages young people to be accountable to at least one, run

the race with at least two, and reach out

to three.

GROWTHThe Mission Academy model aims to inspire

growing groups of young people to initiate and invest in

local grassroots mission projects. We hope to be a catalyst which

will cause the Church to become more mission-

minded, as young people lead by example.

REACHING POTENTIAL

Coaching and mentoring is a key part of The Mission Academy,

which seeks to affirm and empower young people to fulfil their potential

in Christ. It is designed to stretch participants and challenge them

to step out of their comfort zone in word and action

mission for Jesus.

FOUNDATIONSIt is essential that love is the

motivating factor for all that we do: loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and choosing to

love our neighbour as ourselves. With prayer as a priority, God’s

unconditional love is the starting point for all the mission learning and practice. LEARNING

An essential component of The Mission Academy journey is to encourage reflective and active learning. Participants

will review their thinking and mission activity in the light of new understanding and respond by putting it into

practice locally.

PEER COMMUNITY

The Mission Academy builds open and accountable relationships

between the young people, their youth leader, and their church - as they find

freedom to be themselves and journey towards a missional lifestyle together.

Always modelling and pursuing unity, as one people of God, will encourage participants to value

difference and learn from one another.

Page 6: Mission Academy Initiative Brochure

THE MISSION ACADEMY: WHY?

We believe that young people can be the best motivators and encouragers of each other. This is encouraged best

in a supportive shared learning environment with a healthy competitive edge.

We hope to stretch young people, to see them push out of their comfort zone, as they decide to take ongoing risks for Jesus and choose to put their complete trust in Him. We have seen an increasing desire amongst young people to get uncomfortable for Jesus, demonstrating a willingness to engage with the growth pains that are inevitable when being moulded and shaped into the person God has called them to be.

We believe that young people can develop a mission mindset through

direct mission

action and constructive reflection, together, of that experience. Actively doing mission and reflecting critically and constructively together on that experience. Through this cycle of young person led mission activity and learning, coupled with a reflective process, we hope to shape a generation of missional leaders that encourage others in their witness. Shared learning, accountable relationships and an action-driven agenda will enable young people to journey together, developing a character that leads to a daily lifestyle of mission.

THE MISSION ACADEMY: HOW?

Following national training in both September 2012, and March 2013 each facilitator will go on to deliver The Mission Academy

in their region.

Your Mission Academy will consist of young people and their youth leaders from across your region, who each commit to a minimum one year programme with the hope that your Academy will continue for a second year. The Academy will require participants to attend two weekends each year, after which numerous word and deed mission initiatives will follow.

The weekends provide participants the opportunity for both active and reflective learning, reviewing previous missions and discussing future mission ideas with their peers for comment and support. Through ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and review, obstacles and opportunities will be discussed and considered. Additional learning and reading will supplement the The Mission Academy.

A key part of the weekend is an opportunity to worship and pray together, as well as to receive input and learning in specialised areas relevant to word and deed mission. The Mission Academy journey is one that we hope will inspire, enthuse and motivate. Young people can learn, plan and deliver mission activity together in their area.

THE MISSION ACADEMY: WHO?

The Mission Academy will be tailored to the 15-16 age group, but will be open to anyone for whom the facilitators and youth

leaders feel would be appropriate.

A level of maturity will be required because the young people will need to lead and motivate their peers, as they initiate their mission ideas. The young people will also need to demonstrate a clear heart and passion for word and action mission, alongside the ability to get involved in outreach activity, with peer support.

For the youth leader, it is essential that any passion and ideas

expressed by the young people have the

opportunity to be heard, grounded and outworked. Both the youth leader and the church need to support and release each young person to be an ‘Agent of Change in their community’, providing accountability and coaching in order for the mission opportunities to be implemented. As well as being engaged in shaping mission with the young people, youth leaders will have the opportunity to receive additional input through the Academy, which will be tailored to equip them as they serve their young people and promote word and action mission.

YOUR OWN HOPE REVOLUTION MISSION ACADEMY:

Following the facilitators training in September, your first Mission Academy weekend will take place prior to your next training in March after which you will run your second Mission Academy weekend. You will also be invited to attend a commissioning at Wembley stadium on Saturday 29th September as part of the National Day of Prayer. The dates and locations for your Mission Academies will be decided by you as facilitators.

We expect to launch a new round of Academies in the autumn of 2013, as The Mission Academy gains momentum and further Academy facilitators catch the vision for seeing young people pioneer word and action mission in their communities. Our hope is to see young people from across every region of the UK have the opportunity to engage in a Mission Academy as we build to a national year of mission in 2014.

WORD AND ACTION FUNDING

OPPORTUNITY

To accompany The Mission Academy, we are seeking further funding to enable and mobilise young people and their youth

leaders to pioneer their own word and action mission initiatives.

It is our belief that young people know their generation best, and have many creative and God given ideas for effective mission, but often lack the means to make this happen.

Alongside the anticipated financial support there will be ongoing mentoring and coaching available, so that the participants’ mission ideas can materialise.

In this ‘Dragon’s Den’ style process, supporting the Mission Academies, young people will be expected to present their ideas for mission

to a panel of experts. The panel will seek to encourage, support and finance the young people in seeing their mission ideas outworked. Through these initiatives we will encourage young people to embrace the opportunity to work with others from across a spectrum of backgrounds and churches.

This opportunity will empower young people to be ‘bringers of hope’ in their schools and communities, becoming catalysts and leaders for the Church to adopt an increasingly outward-looking focus.
