Period 3– Algebra 1 Syllabus

Assessments– 60% from quizzes, tests and exams. Students may make correc-tions to tests for half points back. I will explain this procedure to students dur-ing class. All work must be shown. No corrections can be made on Final Exams because they are multiple choice. Students will receive feedback.

Homework– 30% from daily assignments. I grade for completeness. Students may receive 50% credit for late work. Per district policy, if a student is absent, they have the number of days that they were absent to make up work. It is the respon-sibility of the student to ask for missing work.

Participation– 10% for weekly Warm-Ups, volunteering in class, working diligent-ly, and behavior. I will be using Class Dojo.com to both track and communicate student participation. Students will bring home parent login information. These points accrue throughout the entire quarter.

All assignments and assessments must be completed before the last day of the quarter. Any assignments not completed will be entered as zeros in the gradebook.

This Algebra 1 course addresses the same standards that are required for a high school Algebra 1 course.

Quarter 1– Solving equations & inequalities in one variable, absolute value equa-tions

Quarter 2– Graphing & writing linear functions, systems of equations

Quarter 3– Exponential functions, polynomial equations & factoring

For this reason, homework is assigned nearly everyday. I feel strongly that each student will have an easier time in math and learn to enjoy the subject more because of their increased understanding if they are pre-pared each day with completed homework.

In order to receive full credit, students must show all work and attempt every problem. I will circulate the room daily to check and

look over students assignments.

An organized backpack and binder makes settling in at the beginning of each class smoother. I also makes preparing to study for a quiz or test easier. The best way to study for a math quiz or test is to take out any notes, homework, etc. having to do with the material on which they will be tested. Then, the student should go through each page of their notes practicing various prob-lems to make sure they remember and under-stand how they to do them. It is extremely important that students are taking neat, clear
