Morning RoutineWhen you enter the classroom in the morning
you will do 3 things before you sit down:1. Take your “Take-Home Binder” out of your backpack,
put the binder in the basket by Miss Allen’s desk and put your backpack on your hook.
2. Check in at the Attendance/Lunch chart.3. Visit the pencil bucket!
After you have completed these things, you may begin working on your Daily Data & Morning
Work!
There will also be a Morning Message to read with any important reminders or things to
complete!
Take-Home BindersEach day you will take home a binder with any
important information that needs to be sent home: notes from teacher, homework, etc.
The students should bring back the binders every morning and anything that needs to get to the teacher or the school (money, excuses, notes) should be put in the appropriate place in the
binder.
**Any money sent to school should be labeled and put in the appropriate place in the take-home binder. Miss Allen will send it where it needs to go when she looks through the binders in the
morning.
Check-In ChartThere is a “Check-In
Chart” that the students will visit every
morning as a way of checking attendance
and telling what kind of lunch they will be
having.
The students should place the popsicle stick with their name on it in
the pocket of their lunch choice for the
day.

CHECK-IN CHART
Pencil BucketEach morning students should get two pencils from the Sharp Pencil Bucket. Hopefully these will last all day, but if not you may quietly get up and place your used pencils in the Dull Bucket and get two new ones
from the Sharp Bucket.
Every day when students leave they should put their pencils in
the Dull Bucket & Miss Allen will sharpen them for the next
day!
I’m Shar
p!
I’m Dull!
Daily Data & Morning Work
Every Monday morning there will be a Daily Data question on the board & the students should answer by writing their name in the appropriate spot on the Venn diagram on the
white board.Every other day of the week there will be a question on
students’ desks to answer or something to do that is related to the Daily Data.
After students have completed Daily Data, students should get started on Morning Work. Morning work will be on
students’ desks when they come in and will be a review of something learned the day before.
When students have completed Daily Data and Morning Work they should put both in their yellow Classwork Folder
in their desk. On Fridays you will turn in your Classwork Folder.
Absent? If students are tardy they should go to the office &
get a tardy slip and bring it to Miss Allen. TRY YOUR HARDEST TO BE ON TIME!
If you are absent, please bring a note in your take-home binder the day you return. This excuse
will be given to the office for verification.Make-up work will be placed in the students’ take-
home binder and should be completed as homework and returned within 3 days of the
absence.(If you don’t have an excuse, you can make up
your work but you will only get half credit.)
End of the Day RoutineAt 2:30 each day Miss Allen will come
around to everyone’s desk and make sure they have written down their homework and if you have, you may pack up your
belongings. **Make sure you take home your Take-Home Binder
EVERYDAY!**
There will be a chart displaying how everyone gets home. We will dismiss according to the times the school has designated
Early Bus: 2:45Car Riders: 2:50Late Bus: 2:55
*If there is an early dismissal day, the school and I will send an email
with details about times & policies.
HomeworkMiss Allen prefers that all of our work be completed at school,
but if you have to take something home to finish it please place it in the appropriate place in your Take-Home binder &
bring it back the next day. (If you turn in work late, it will be 1 point off for every day it is late.)
Everyone will take home a “Reading Bag” every night with a book on their reading level. Parents will need to fill in the
Reading Log in the students’ Take-Home binder every night with how much the student has read.
You must read 10 minutes every night. (Not weekends). If you read more, that’s awesome!
You may also have to study for tests. Spelling words will be given on the newsletter & spelling tests will be on Friday.
Other tests for the week will also be printed in the newsletter and you will have plenty of time to study!
Star of the Week!On the first day of school everyone will complete
an “All About Me” poster. Each week one student’s poster will be displayed in the Star of the Week spot on the wall. This person will be
my special helper & errand runner for the week.
We will recognize this student on Monday morning & at this time I will allow them to bring
something to share that tells about them. Parents, I will send you an email the week before
notifying you if your child’s week is coming up so you can help them find something great to
share!
Happy Birthday! On a student’s birthday parents may send
a special snack to share with the class. (Please check the allergies list that is in the packet you’ve been given!)
Parents, please feel free to come during snack time and help celebrate the
birthday!Miss Allen also has a special ribbon for
students to wear on their birthday so everyone knows it’s their special day!
Medication ProceduresIf your child needs medication
during the school day, you will need to fill out a blue Health Form and return it to the school office with the child’s medicine. (YOU must
bring it, not the student.)
All medicine will be given by the school nurse. Students will be excused to take it at the time
needed.
Class VisitorsOf course we will welcome visitors into our
classroom, but please let me know ahead of time if you would like to come! We can plan
together when would be the best time.
And of course you are always welcome to come eat lunch with your student any day
you would like!
If you are going to visit, please follow the school policies. Stop by the office & get a visitor’s pass before you come & see us!

you on the form and I will contact you soon!

Small GroupsDuring reading everyday, you will be in small groups that meet with me and do centers. You
will look at the Centers Pocket Chart each day to see what center your group will go to. (Eventually
you may be able to pick your center!)
While you are doing centers, I will be working with a small group and I expect you to…
• Always be working!• Be on your best behavior so you
do not disturb me & my group.• Not interrupt my lesson to ask
questions. (Wait until I am done!)
CentersThere will be 4 centers your small group will go to:• Read to Self (Read a book from your book box.)• Partner Read (Choose a book to read with a friend.)• Word Work (Working with vocabulary words.)• Computer (Games that help you learn!)
In the beginning Miss Allen will rotate your groups for you, but after you have the hang of them you will get to
choose where you want to go. Once you are in your center, that is where you will be
the whole time. So work hard & enjoy it! When you hear the bell, quickly put up your materials,
check the Centers Chart & move quietly to the next center.
Always stay busy but stay quiet!
Other Group Work
There will be other special times you are able to work in groups. I will
place you in these groups and I will expect the very best out of you
during these times! I will also expect you to:
• Work together• Stay on task
• Follow class rules• Always do your best!
Working at Your SeatMost of the work completed in this class will be done at
your desk. I always expect you to be working hard and doing your best. This means you should work quietly so you do not
disturb yourself or your friends. If you need something while you are working simply raise
your hand and I will come to you.
When you have finished your work, get up and put it in the appropriate tray next to Miss Allen’s desk. (There will be trays for Morning Work, Reading, Math, Science,
and Social Studies.)After you turn your work in, see if there is anything else you can be working on. If not, read a book quietly at your seat.
Classroom MaterialsSome materials in the classroom are only for Miss
Allen, and some materials can be used by everyone. It is important to know the difference!
• Anything on Miss Allen’s desk is off limits without permission. Ask please!
• Please ask before you use the pencil sharpener.•All of the books, magazines, and references on the book
shelves are there for you. Use them!• Computers should only be used when you are given
permission.•All of the materials on the back shelves are there for you.
(Staplers, tape, manipulatives, games, etc.) Use them when you need them or have extra time!
•If you borrow something from a friend, make sure you ask and take very good care of whatever it is you borrow.
Respecting Materials
I expect my students to remember Rule #4 and respect their property and
everyone else’s property.
Yes, materials in the classroom are there for you to use, but if you abuse that
privilege it can be taken away from you.
Take care of your stuff and anything that you borrow from anyone else! Treat it as
if it is your own.
Bathroom & Water BreaksThere are 2 scheduled bathroom and water breaks throughout our day. Everyone should
use these opportunities.
If you have an emergency situation, raise your hand and I will allow you to go with the
bathroom pass.
If you feel sick (like you may throw up), please leave and get to the bathroom as
soon as possible. You do not have to ask! I do not want you to get sick in class!
CommunicationI try my best to keep parents clued in on what is going on and
will make periodic phone calls to let you know how your student is doing overall and any special concerns I may have.
In addition to the daily behavior chart, individual weekly reports will be sent home on Fridays in the Take-Home Binder that will cover any work your child did during the week and
how they did on it. Please sign & return it on Monday!
One great way to keep up with what is going on in our classroom is our weekly newsletter. Another great way to
know what is happening is our class website. I try to update it as much as possible! (www.allensclass.com)
If you have any special concerns or want to talk please feel free to call me at school: 555-1234
Or email me: [email protected]
Parent/Teacher ConferencesIf you feel you have something you need to
discuss with me that cannot be done over the phone or email, please feel free to
schedule a conference.Email me stating you would like to meet and what day would be best for you. I will let you know when I will be available and work with you to make it convenient for
everyone.I want to do everything I can to address your concerns and help you and your child
have a great year!
Weekly NewsletterThe best way to keep up with everything that is
going on in our classroom is our weekly newsletter. It will be sent home every Thursday
with information for the upcoming week.
The newsletter will include important information such as: important upcoming dates, spelling words and tests for the next week, our Star
Student for the upcoming week, and any other information that needs to be shared.
The newsletter will be posted on our class website as well. So if you miss it in your child’s backpack,
look online!
GradesStudent grades will come from classwork, tests, and projects.
All completed work from the week will be sent home on Fridays in the correct spot in the Take-Home Binder. Please look over the work and send it back on Monday. (I have to keep it for
my records.)
All tests and projects will be graded. Not all class work will be graded, but I will look over all of it and it will all be sent
home on Fridays.
Morning Work will count for 10 points each week. At the end of the nine weeks you will have a possible total of 90 points.
You’ll get 10 because I love you. (100 points total)
If there are questions about grades please feel free to send me a note or an email and I’ll be happy to discuss it!
