From the Primary PrincipalAs we come to the end of quarter 2, we are almost half way through the school year. There have been many improvements at MIS this year, and we will continue to do everything within our means to provide the safest educational environment for your child while also focusing on character development and academic achievement.I want to encourage parents and students to take time during our winter break to spend as much time together as possible. Take a break from academics, and share in life’s great moments. Come back to school refreshed and eager to learn on January 9th, 2017.I look forward to meeting you all again in the new year.

Assembly Performance by Year 6A

Class 6A entertained primary students at our monthly assembly on Friday, December 9, 2016, by acting out a funny poem on stage entitled, ‘Crack-a-Dawn’, by Brian Morse. This poem is about a boy’s mother who came into her son’s bedroom one morning to try to get him out of bed. She gives him 10 seconds to get out of bed, and start getting ready for school. On each second of her countdown she gives her son varies funny reports about different things trying to entice him out of bed. However, in the last second of her countdown she had to resort to pouring water over him.The year 6A boys and girls did a great job presenting this poem… which was enjoyed by all.

From the Primary Principal REACHES and Short Story AwardsDuring our assembly on December 9th, we had multiple celebrations. First, we celebrated the achievement of students who excelled at showing respect at school to their peers, to adults, and to the school. One student in each year-level from Year 3 to Year 6 was nominated and received a certificate. It was great to see parents attend this event and show their pride and support of their child’s achievement. Next month’s award will focus on establishing life-long learning. For this award, we will be looking for resilient learners who work with enthusiasm and independence, and take a constructive role in group tasks. We also celebrated the winners and participants of our short story writing contest. I was very impressed by the content their content and presentation of the entries. Promoting literacy in all its forms is very important to the school, and we plan to have other similar events throughout the school-year for student to participate in and to shine.(See next page for individual REACHES Award pictures)

Holiday ConcertOn Tuesday, December 14, students took part in the annual MIS Holiday Concert. A lot of dedication and effort went into making this event a success. It is certainly on a grand scale! Special thanks to all the students, Mrs. Alma, Mr. Michael and Mr Bruce, and also to our parent company, Shwe Than Lwin for providing the venue and delicious refreshments. We also wish to thank parents for attending the event. It was very rewarding for the staff to talk with many of you and share your excitement concerning your children’s involvement in the concert and at MIS in general.

Merry Christmas from MIS

At the end of my first semester at MIS, I would like to say thank you to our wonderful students, their supportive parents and our dedicated team for making the last four months so enjoyable and successful. Our Christian families and staff will be celebrating the birth of Jesus. At the heart of the Christmas message is the idea that God became a human being, a doctrine that teaches that every human life is sacred. That is something that we can all reflect on in a world that often puts a low value on the lives of the poor and vulnerable. For others, Christmas can simply be a happy time of celebration with family and friends. However you spend Christmas, I wish you a most enjoyable holiday.
