A Decision Support System (DSS) is a way to model data and makequality decisions based oMaking the right decision in business isusually based on data quality and ones ability to sift through and

analyze the data to find trends that solutions and strategies can becreated from/for. Decision Support Systems are usually computer

applications with a human component. They can sift through largeamounts of data and pick between the many choices.n it.

Decision Support Systems are used to collect data, analyze andshape the data that is collected, and make sound decisions orconstruct strategies from analysis. Whether computers, databases,

or people are involved usually does not matter.

It is important to note that although computers and artificialintelligence are at work, it is ultimately up to humans to executethese strategies or formulate the data into a usable hypothesis.

The figure alse illustrates how the DSS works. The DSS users get their datafrom the data warehouse, databases, and other data sources. When a userhas a problem, it is evaluated by the processes. A DSS system is theconstructed. Data are entered from the source on the left side and themodels on the right side in figure below. Knowledge can be also tapped

from the corporate knowledge base. As more problems are solved, moreknowledge is accumulateThe DSS methodology just described wasdesigned initially to support individual decision makers. However, mostorganizational decisions are made by groups, such as an executivecommittee.
