• Enquiry by Design Workshop held in Mirani on the 12

and 13 November 2009, led by Deicke Richards

• Issues discussed at the EbD workshop:

- Should Mirani and / or Marian grow? If so, how


much and in which direction?

- Provision of necessary trunk infrastructure in an

economically sustainable way

- Residential–industry, residential–agriculture and

town–river interfaces

- Pioneer Valley provides a distinctive and beautiful

setting for a string of communities which each have

a unique character and sense of identity

- Marian (Melba House) is seen as the gateway to the

valley

- Mirani acknowledged as former administrative

- Marian has a higher resident population but lacks

commercial services and community facilities

- Both towns are situated at hubs in the regional road

- Combined: Mirani and Marian combined form a

district service centre serving many of the needs of

the Pioneer Valley’s residents.

- Mirani: is a compact, walkable urban neighbourhood

with a town centre oriented toward community

facilities (entertainment, administration, cultural and
