Twice a week, Mrs. Sara Zapana teaches a Spanish class to each of those grades. Mrs. Zapana is a natural at it and thoroughly enjoys teaching the children. No stranger to education, she has worked at Miramonte for over a decade and studied education in college. Already parents are sharing their appreciation of the class and the talented teacher in charge. The goal is to continue to expand Spanish instruction to the older grades as well so that our students can graduate bilingual. Alumna Helvia Tania - a Compassionate Citizen and Discerning Leader In 2009, a young lady named Helvia Taina graduated from Miramonte, and her future was bright. She attended Evergreen Valley High School, where she was the valedictorian and maintained a 4.0 GPA. Before Ms. Taina graduated, she took the SAT test and received a perfect score of 2400. She was accepted into numerous high profile universities across the country, one of which was Stanford University. Now a senior there, Helvia has distinguished herself not only for her scholarly success but also her compassion for others: she co-founded Autism Speaks; she’s also an executive board member for Stanford UNICEF. Miramonte provides the strong foundation so our graduates, like Helvia, can excel and find ways to bless the world around them. “. . . faith, hope, and love, these three and the greatest of these is love.” We, the faculty, administration, and staff are drawn to these words. Not only do we believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, but we also believe in our students. We see their potential and seek ways to reach them to be drawn to their Creator and Redeemer. We also have hope, because God has blessed Miramonte as His school. We see His working in our classes and feel honored to work with Him for His children. And love, I can tell you without a doubt that our teachers love their students, pouring their talents, their time, and their lives into helping each child succeed. Miramonte holds a special place in my heart . . . Simply put, Miramonte gave me a safe, loving, and fun environment to grow up in.” ~ Helvia Taina Miramonte Teachers Roll Out the Red Carpet for Their Students On Tuesday, August 23rd, Miramonte Christian School opened its doors for the beginning of the 2016 - 2017 school year. Excited parents and grandparents brought 126 students for grades K - 8 , and another eight 3- and 4-year olds for Miramonte’s Early Learning Center. The day was incredible, holding much promise for the year to come. Miramonte has ten of the best teachers from the Pacific Union, with more than 176 years of cumulative teaching experience and graduate degrees in Curriculum, ESL, and Special Needs. These professionals are focused on a high quality education and helping each child succeed. Furthermore, thanks to Home & School’s fundraising efforts plus the direction of the administration, board, and faculty, there are upgrades in technology - keyboarding and coding classes, a new mobile Chromebook lab for greater access to the Internet for research, project work, and academic supplemental programs, and plans for infrastructure renovation. Add to that after school programs in reading, athletics, music, Christian outreach, and technology (including robotics), and anyone can see what a well-rounded education is Miramonte’s standard of excellence. Miramonte teachers cheered and welcomed their students on the first day of school. The Class of 2017 and Mrs. Sato - a group filled with potential and promise.
