GOODLANDS BOYS STATE SECONDARY SCHOOL
MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF MEETING
A departmental meeting was held on Friday 22nd
April 2011 at 11 45 hours in the ArtRoom.
Members Present : Mrs. Nundloll-Puddo (HOD), Mr. Ransbeeharry,
Mrs. Runglollsingh and Mr. Keesonah.
The following matters were discussed:
1. First Term Performance Analysis
2. Assessments
3. Remedial Work
4. Co-curricular Activities5. Scheme of Work
6. Attendance for Option Classes
7. National Form III & Form V Mock Examinations
8. PMS
1. First Term Performance Analysis
Both qualitative and quantitative audit reports were submitted for first term
assessments. The HOD reminded teachers that they should be in a position to
implement any measure proposed to improve learning difficulties as identified in the
qualitative reports. Such measures must be reflected in the scheme of work underrevision/consolidation work.
2. Assessments
The HOD informed members that assessments must test the objectives of the topic
concerned. Assessments must also be used to diagnose learning difficulties and in
this connection, all corrected scripts must be returned to learners. After marking
scripts, assessments must be discussed and corrected so that pupils learn from their
mistakes.
3. Remedial Work
Teachers must plan remedial work after diagnosis of learning difficulties carried out
while doing performance audits. All remedial work must be included in the scheme of
work and carried out during normal class periods or in Activity Periods. Such
remedial work mainly concerns Forms IV, V and VI.

4. Co-curricular Activities
Teachers must keep a record of all activities carried out with dates and objectives.
Activity periods may be used to introduce young learners of Forms I, II and III to
project works while Forms IV, V and VI will carry out consolidation work. Pupils will
be assessed on their project work submitted and thus, teachers must set criteria on
which project works will be assessed.
5. Scheme of Work
All schemes of work must be submitted by Monday 25th April 2011. Strategies to
improve performance as well as remedial/consolidation work must be included in the
schemes of work. A total of 3 assessments must be planned in the schemes of work
for all classes except Forms V which must be set 2 assessments only as Mock
Examinations will be held.
6. Attendance for Option Classes
The HOD informed all teachers that they must take attendance for their pupils during
option classes so as to be in a position to monitor regularity of their learners. This
measure will also make it difficult for any pupil to shirk classes. Any irregularity must
be reported to the office.
7. National Form III & Form V Mock Examinations
Teachers were informed by the HOD that Goodlands SSS will be concerned with
Form III final examinations to be held in October at National level. Papers will be set
by MES and hence teachers working with Form III must follow the syllabus
prescribed by MES. The scheme of work for Form III must take into consideration theMES syllabus. Form V examinations will be held as from 4 th July 2011 and oral
examinations will be held one week earlier. The committee seized the opportunity to
plan paper setting for the Form V July Mock Examinations as follows:

8. PMS
All teachers were requested to complete their PMS for the year 2010 and start filling
the form for the year 2011.
9. The meeting ended at 12.30 and the HOD thanked all members present.
