    1. New Jersey Blood Services Christine Schetelich from New Jersey Blood Services spoke at the meeting today.

She thanked us for saving over 420 lives last year. Our two drives averaged 82

donations per drive. Since March 1977, UCC and NJBS have combined on 25

drives to save over 2700 lives. They hope to return to us in March 2010.

Scholarship opportunities are back: $500 for one blood drive, $1000 for twoblood drives. There is now also the red cell advantage program. This program

allows donors to collect points to be used to receive gifts and gift cards. They

also have a new donor center open in Scotch Plains.

Several questions and issues relevant to the last blood drive were asked. Howmany lives in NJ are saved? Unfortunately Christine didnt know the answer, but

over 60 hospitals in NJ are helped. A major issue with the last blood drive was

the staff. Their bedside manner was unpleasant and communicating with

students on matters that would prevent someone from giving blood was a

problem. New Jersey Blood Services will be discussed on our next meeting.

    2. Mentoring Program The mentoring list is out and each mentor has been assigned mentees. The

    cards are in the mail.

    3. Service Project The target date is November 14th, which is a month away. We want 4

committees for a Plainfield campus/neighborhood cleanup: graffiti, litter, setup,

and public awareness. This cleanup would satisfy both common roots and

broken windows. We need people to not only help cleanup but also keep a

journal, record details, find out (our figure out) the impact on the community, come up with an exit survey, take before and after pictures, and scout out an

area for the greatest impact before the cleanup. Motion to proceed has been

    passed.

    4. Honors In Art Dr Gaba needs to know the details for the art gallery. Whichever room we pick

needs to be secured. The meeting center is a potential location but well need to

tour the building to scope the space. The criteria for the artwork is that it must

follow the paradox of affluence, made of 90% recyclable material, have a

personal statement, and the entry form has been filled out. If we have too manyapplicable entries, excluded entries will be determined on how close they are to

the criteria by a selected panel. Another panel will judge the artwork.

The panel discussion will take place in the Stanley meeting room. As far as whowill be speaking on the panel, we need to reconfirm with Prof Cuttita and Prof

Hildrew ; Prof Nicoli and Prof Yaskowitz have declined; Prof Singer and the

curator have not yet been approached.
