RESEARCH CONTEXT 

There was notable changes in Indian womenswear market in the past 

decade, and is growing at a steady rate of more than 5%,due to increase

number of working women and their level of disposable income.

This research work is done to study the evolution in womens wear 

market India and to focus on the bright future that it had.

women's wear retaiI market includes sales of women's and girls' 

garments like one-piece dresses, jackets, top, skirts, blouses, sweatshirts,

sweaters, lingerie,formal wears,etc. Ethnic Indian wears like salwar 

suits,sarees also add to it.

The domestic and international players currently operating in the Indian

women apparel industry are- Provogue India Ltd., Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd., Levi Strauss & Co., W, Biba, Fabindia, Tacfab, Hakoba,

Prafful,Vipul, Satya Paul, Anokhi, Meena Bazaar, CTC etc.they  have a

very solid market.

Many manufacturers who were initially concentrating only on men's

wear have started focusing on formal wears for women like Raymond 

has established its women’s wear brand through its flagship brand 'Park 

 Avenue', and its casual wear with the label 'Color Plus'.

In spite of growth factors in this sector,there are a few challenges that 

market   players need to be aware of before entering the market:-

   A good fit is important as there is lot of variation across different 

age groups and regions

  Competition from unorganised market 

  No unified fashion across diverse regions

OBJECTIVES:-

1.  To explore opportunities in Indian women’s wear market  

2.  To explore prominent women’s wear brands in India

3.  To identify challenges for the women’s wear brand in India

FINDINGS

Thus with the increase in the income level of women, and a

metamorphosis in their lifestyle, positive opportunities await the

womenswear market.The current market of sarees and ethnic wear 

stands at ~Rs 31,000 crore and is projected to grow at 10

 per cent to reach ~Rs 45,000 crore in 2014. Major growth is projected in

this segment with the revival of sarees in new and more innovative formats and with new styling, fabric and fits for salwar-kameez and 

dupatta,and also branded apparel industry for women(Increasing at a

CAGR of 25% )is expected to hit Rs. 18,351 Crore by 2011. So,with a good 

growth trajectory in organized retail, and mall culture, womenswear 

segment is all set grow further in the near future.
