•Increase National capabilities in energy related topics, to •Foster research and technological development and incentivises innovation as well as •To provide support for the formation of specialized human resources.
With such activities, the operation of the FSE helps to maintain closer links between the scientific and academia community with industry.
By supporting these projects, the FSE seeks to:
• During this year, the Ministry of Energy (SENER) in conjunction with CONACYT launched three cluster-‐type Mexican Energy Innovation Centres (CEMIEs) on Renewable Energy.
• The CEMIEs are expected to providea platform to launch and growan unprecedented portfolio of low carbon initiatives.
• These Centres are not physical centres but a virtual networkof institutions and firmsworking together.
The CEMIES havebeen awarded a guaranteed 4 year funding.
Altogether, the three first CEMIES have recieved an equivalentof 70 million sterling pounds, which represents anunprecedentedinvestment on this topics in Mexico.
STRATEGY SHIFT TO LARGE PROJECTS IN 2014
2013 CEMIES
• Call for proposals launched onMay 2013: CEMIE-‐Geo, CEMIE-‐Solar and CEMIE-‐Wind.
• Formalization: february 2014.
• CEMIE-‐Geo Kick off: february 2014.• CEMIE-‐Sol Kick off: march 2014.• CEMIE-‐WindKick off: april 2014.
• Resources: AroundUSD $120 million for the 3 CEMIEs.• CEMIE-‐Geo Kick off: USD$70.8 million• CEMIE-‐Sol Kick off: USD$33.2 million.• CEMIE-‐WindKick off: USD$16 million.
In Febrary 2014, the FSE established three New Mexican InnovationCentres in Energy (CEMIEs):
A) SOLAR: a consortia of 57 members, 47 research institutions and 10 firms. Led by UNAM ´s Renewable Energy Institute.
B) WIND: formed of 32 members in the consortia, 22 researchinstitutions and 10 national and international firms. Led y Electric Research Institute.
C) GEOTHERMAL: formed of 21 members (12 institutions and 9 firms)Led by CICESE, Ensenada.
In September 2014, the FSE open a call for bids for two New MexicanInnovation Centres (CEMIES):
A) OCEAN ENERGY: Winner announced in December 2015.B) BIOENERGY: Winners announced in December 2015.
ENERGY INNOVATION CENTRES (CEMIES)
This year two New Centres will be funded:
A) CCS. Call OPEN until May 31st 2016. 25 Million £
B) SMART GRIDS call OPEN until May 31st 2016.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
•The Energy Sustainability Fund (FSE) from April 2014 this year has been actively seeking to enhance cooperation with the EU in all relevant areas of related to the Fund.
•In particular through joint calls and bilateral agreements on all thematic areas of the CEMIES.
•Mexico through this Fund will seek further cooperation on energy topicsboth for research, development, adoption, and innovative activities.
•In addition, Mexico announced in October a major programme of Training and Human Resource Development in Energy Topics, byoffering up to 60,000 scholarships to Mexican Nationals from technical topostdoctoral levels.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
•The main areas of cooperation are related to renewable energy, but also development of clean technology, and to establish mechanisms to share best practices and knowledge exchange , innovation capability building, and innovation management.•CHAIRS•POSTDOCS•PHDS•MASTERS•RESEARCH+INNOV PROJECTS
•Workshops, research visits, conferences and symposia should be planned for all relevant areas of cooperation in energy.
•29 FEB CCS workshop in MEXICO CITY for CEMIE. Participants include Sheffield, Edinburgh, Aberdeen
• Further diffussion of the opportunities of participation cooperation. •New areas of cooperation opportunities and topics with the EU Commission on Energy are led by the Sustainability Energy Fund of the Ministry of Energy-Conacyt.
