UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

The Susan Lockey Seekers Circle meets the first Wednesday of every month at 10am in the Fellowship hall and the Mary Harvin Discovery Circle meets also on the first Wednesday at 6:15pm, with the exception of the summer months. Our June meeting will be a salad supper on Wednesday, June 10, at 6:00pm. All Ladies of the Church are invited to attend. Each person brings a salad to share with the group. I hope you will consider joining us for this delightful evening of fun, food, and fellowship. The Saint Luke UMW is holding its annual yard sale on Saturday, June 6th in the Fellowship hall from 7:30am until 12 Noon. We can use your help in three ways: one by donating items to sell, secondly by helping to organize and price items a few days before the yard sale, and last by volunteering at the yard sale. We have lots of fun getting ready for the yard sale as well as the day of the yard sale. You can always find some-thing you need - remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Hope to see you there.

SAINTS AND SENIORS I know you are waiting with baited breath wondering when and where we’re going this busy month of May. The fact is, may I say, May has slipped away and soon June will be here to stay. I had planned for us to go to Bishopville to view Pearl Fryar’s topiary gardens but I believe it will have to wait until Tuesday, June 23. Let me know how you feel about this. However, a small group of blessed Saint “Lukeians” visited the UNC-P Indian Museum at Old Main April 23. Dr. Stan Knick, Curator of the Museum, gave us an in-formative history of the location and the artifacts and explained the pieces done by a local artist that were on exhibit. We ate in the cafeteria which was quite an experience since hundreds of school children were there eating after seeing a production of “Rapunzel” at the Givens Arts Center next door.

All in all it was a great adventure and, of course, our undaunting Bo got us there and back safely.

Prayers and Candles, Carol Whitehead

Relax your Mind

Restore your Body

Renew Your Spirit As the school year comes to a close, hopefully many of those

extracurricular activities that our kids are involved in are

coming to a close as well. I’m sure if any of you feel like I do

during a typical week, each day brings a new schedule and a

new taxi service route. As we approach summer, hopefully

many of us are looking forward to that time to escape and get

away on a vacation a time to unwind, relax and find some

peace. Jesus demonstrates for us the need to withdraw from

time to time to rest. Both He and his disciples worked hard at

ministering to people. Jesus certainly didn't turn anyone away

in a time of need, but he took opportunities to escape to care

for both his physical and spiritual needs. Many of us take on

more than we should and sometimes we drive ourselves to

physical exhaustion. When this happens, not only does our

physical health suffer, but we also become spiritually drained

as well and we neglect one of the most important aspects:

intimate time with our Father. My hope is that you find some

time to draw aside and rest. Ask the Spirit to be present with

you and allow your mind, body, and spirit to be refreshed. I

hope you have a wonderful beginning to summer!

Grace and Peace,

Maggie

Psalm 139: 7 - 10

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

If I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

If I settle on the far side of the sea,

Even there your hand will guide me,

Your right hand will hold me fast.
