“HOW TO HANDLE PERSECUTION” 1 Peter 2:21-23 For to this you
were called, because Christ also
suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that you should follow
His steps: “Who committed no
sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth”; who, when He
was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He
did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who
judges righteously.
I. Realize persecution is “part and parcel” of the
Christian life (21a)
“But to this you have been called”
Paul said “All who live godly in Christ Jesus shall
suffer persecution.”
Jesus said “Blessed are they who are persecuted
for righteousness sake.”
When we are persecuted for righteous living it is
a testimony of our Christ-likeness and a privilege
to suffer on his behalf.
II. Follow Jesus example (21b)
“Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an
example.”
When faced with life’s difficulties always ask
“How did Jesus face this?” Remember, “He was
tempted in all points like as we are.”
A. He did not react in a sinful manner
(22a)
B. He controlled His speech (22b-23a)
He spoke truthfully with no
deceit.
He did not insult them each
time they insulted Him.
He did not utter threats of
getting even one day.
C. He turned it over to God and trusted
Him to take care of it. (23b)
God Bless,
Bro. Jack
The Chief Cornerstone
This historic
cornerstone
from our
sanctuary is
currently
sitting on the
floor inside
the empty
sanctuary
structure as work on the Welcome Center
continues. This cornerstone was carefully
removed and will be carefully reinstalled as part
of our sanctuary renovation/Welcome Center
addition, preserving a bit of the history of First
Baptist Church Fisherville.
As important to us as this cornerstone is, it is not
the cornerstone on which we build our ministry, or
even our church. The One Chief Cornerstone
upon which the church is built is Jesus!
Psalm 118:22-29 says, “The stone which the
builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in His eyes.
This is the day which the Lord has made; let us
rejoice and be glad in it. O Lord, do save, we
beseech Thee; O Lord, we beseech Thee, do send
prosperity! Blessed is the one who comes in the
name of the Lord; we have blessed you from the
house of the Lord. The Lord is God, and He has
given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords
to the horns of the altar. Thou art my God, and I
give thanks to Thee; Thou art my God, I extol
Thee, Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For
His lovingkindness is everlasting.” (NASB)
May this Psalm be our song and our prayer. Let
us rejoice and give thanks, even as we beseech
the Lord for the salvation of the lost and the
prosperity of His people.

Dear FBC Family,
I just wanted to write a note
and tell you all how much I
appreciate everything you did
for me following my recent surgery. Thanks
for the food, the phone calls, the cards, but
most of all, your prayers. I love my church
family!
Your sister in Christ,
Leigh Strickland
Thank you everyone for the
card and kind words during this
time. It meant a lot to my wife
and me and we thank you for
the continued prayers.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another:
and so much the more, as ye see the day

PRAYERS NEEDED!!!
Our church is blessed with faithful and
talented members of our Celebration Choir. I
am privileged to have the opportunity to serve
along side them and stand before them as they
lead in worship Sunday after Sunday!
I would like to ask the First Fisherville Family
to join me in praying for our choir! Pray for
those now serving and pray that God would
raise up new or former choir members to
come join us! We need more choir
members! Especially men! Would you
please add this prayer request to your list?
Thank you!
CHRISTMAS PREVIEW
Yes, Christmas! On Sunday afternoon,
August 30th at 4:30 pm in the Choir Room,
we’ll preview our 2015 Christmas music!
This is the time when music is distributed
along with rehearsal CDs, dates and times of
rehearsals and performances. We might even
have a few treats to share as we listen.
We invite adults and youth to come join us as
we prepare for Christmas at First Fisherville!
Rehearsals begin Sunday, September 13,
5:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.
