Policy Updates

• Policy came into force December 1, 2014.• Future amendments:

o Assessment process applies to individual caregivers hired to care for children in their own home AND caregivers in staffed residential resources (rotating workers).

o Caregivers cannot look after children (in a family home OR in a staffed residential resource) until they have been assessed and approved.

Updates on Criminal Record Checks

• MCFD is in the process of negotiating changes to the criminal record check process that applies to residential care contractors.

• Updated process would provide a more streamlined process, that would be more timely and less costly for contractors.

• Timeline: – Finalized process: 2016/17 (requires potential

amendments to legislation and negotiations with RCMP)

– Interim Process: Fall 2015 (anticipated)5
