Anvil Design Services offers bothBasic and Extended Services…

Basic Services:Anvil Design Services produces fabrication drawings of mechanical room piping 21⁄2 " and larger including chillers, heatexchangers, boilers, and pumps from contractor supplied flow diagrams, mechanical drawings, and approved submittalsand specifications.

The drawings include a Bill of Materials with tags referencing the components in the mechanical room. The piping is colorcoded by service and is represented in 3-D with plan, isometric, and elevation views.

Initially, Anvil personnel meet with you to determine your piping preferences. The project scope and fee is agreed upon in aDesign Services contract. The plans and specifications are then interpreted in terms of economy, accuracy, and compliance. We may suggest modifications in arrangement, construction, equipment location, or product to attain the desired results.Piping layouts are carefully analyzed to determine whether further economies can be attained in the piping system.

Piping drawings are then prepared to determine themost efficient pipe routing, taking equipment locationand any interferences into consideration. Preliminaryprints are sent to you for revision or approval.

Upon approval, (4) sets of drawings with tags andBills of Materials of the included system componentsare sent to you. Copies of the electronic data file ofthe project drawings are available at no extra charge. This brochure is an example of the finished product.

With Basic Services, you can plan the mechanicalroom. The preliminary drawings can be taken to coor-dination meetings with other trades to “reserve”space by “getting in” first. Also, your field supervisorcan spend more time supervising and not calculatingpipe lengths and pipe routing. The components canbe grouped from the finished drawings for betterworkflow planning.

We usually reduce fitting counts by 10%-15% by moving equipment whenever possible, usually less than a foot. The moremovement that is allowed, the more savings can be realized.

Extended Services:Extended Services include any scope beyond Basic Services. There are many different types of services offered as extended:

• BOM by component (pump, chiller) orby system

• Unique Tagging – adding unique tagsto individual components

• Air Handling Units – with associated ductwork

• Single Line Routing – non-dimensional

• Distribution Piping

• Dimensioned Floor Penetrations

• AWWA Piping - Total Scope

• Commercial Piping

• Oil Field Piping

• Retrofit Projects - Field Survey

• Hybrid Systems

GRUVLOK Xtreme LubricantTM

GRUVLOK Xtreme Lubricant has been developed for use withGruvlok couplings in services where improved lubrication isbeneficial. This lubricant has an operating temperature range from-65 ° F to 400 ° F, well exceeding the temperature range ofGruvlok gaskets. This lubricant is water-proof, thereby eliminatingwater washout and it will not dry out in the absence of water. There are five primary applications where the extreme temper-ature lubricant will provide increased benefits: low temperatureapplications (below -20 °F), high temperature applications (above180° F), applications where increase pipe joint flexibility is needed, lubrication of gaskets in copper systems, and for the lubrication ofgaskets on HDPE couplings. Since it is formulated from a non-hydrocarbon base, it can be used with EPDM, Nitrile gasketmaterials. It is not recommended for use with silicone gaskets.

u In low temperature applications the gasket will shrink, therebylowering the sealing force on the gasket sealing lips. The tem-perature change will also force the gasket to slightly repositionitself. This will cause pipe end sealing sur-faces, with small cutsor damage, to become more susceptible to leakage. GruvlokXtreme Lubricant will maintain it ’s lubricating properties atlower temperatures allowing a properly lubricated pipe endand gasket (assembly)to reposition itself during temperaturecycles.

u For high temperature service, it is recommended that the gas-ket be lubricated not only on the outside, as with the normalinstallation of a Gruvlok gasket, but also on the inside.Lubrication on the inside of the gasket is easily accomplishedby turning the gasket inside out and applying the lubricant.Gruvlok Xtreme Lubricant will maintain it ’s lubricatingproperties at higher temperatures, allowing a properly lubri-cated pipe end and gasket assembly to reposition itself duringtemperature cycles. Lubrication of the pipe end and gasket willhelp the gasket to adjust into the proper sealing position duringtemperature cycles. The lubricant on the interior of the gasketwill act to improve the chemical resistance of the gasket mate-rial by providing a thin lubricant barrier between the pipingsystem fluid and the gasket surface. This is particularly importantat higher temperatures where oxidizing agents in the pipingsystem become more aggressive. However, gasket chemicalcompatibility must still be considered.

u The Gruvlok Xtreme Lubricant has been formulated from lowviscosity, non-petroleum based oils to ease spreading of thelubricant. In applications where pipe movement is expected, proper lubrication of the gasket ’s exterior assists the gasketinto the proper sealing position as pipe system movementoccurs. This lubricating film enhances our flexible coupling gas-ket ’s ability to compensate for axial, transverse and rotationalpipe movements.

u Gruvlok Xtreme Lubricant is the only Gruvlok lubricant that is to beused with Gruvlok couplings and gaskets in HDPE and copper pipingsystems. It ’s low temperature capability and lubricity ensure a highlyreliable connection. Gruvlok Xtreme Lubricant is a Teflon fortified white, tasteless andodorless grease made from Silicone Oil and other ingredients thatare safe to ingest. It is sanctioned by the FDA under C. F.R.21.172.878 &21.177.1550 (Incidental Food Contact). CCaauuttiioonn: Silicone based lubricants are not allowed in some facilities. ®Teflon is a registered trademark of Dupont.

Gruvlok Quick Dry LubricantGRUVLOK Quick Dry Lubricant is a fast drying lubricant that hasbeen developed for applications where the piping system isexposed. The service temperature range for this lubricant isfrom 0 °F, to 150 ° F and may be used with all Gruvlok gasketmaterial grades. The lubricant is made from a water emulsionthat is non-toxic, it will not impart taste or odor, and does notsupport bacterial growth. Gruvlok Quick Dry Lubricant is non-corrosive, nonflammable, and is NSF approved for use withportable water. This lubricant is easy to apply by brush or hand, and it quicklydries to a thin film when in contact with air. It is water-soluble.The quick drying quality of the lubricant eliminates lubricantdrips caused by over lubrication. If necessary, reapply lubricantprior to assembly. Do not thin or mix with solvents.

Gruvlok LubricantGRUVLOK Lubricant is the standard lubricant that has been provid-ed for use with Gruvlok products for years. Gruvlok Lubricant iswater soluble, nontoxic, noncorrosive, nonflammable, and will notimpart taste or odor. It is NSF approved for use with portablewater. This lubricant is acceptable for most applications, however, the Gruvlok Xtreme Lubricant and Gruvlok Quick Dry Lubricant arenow available to improve the performance of the couplings andflanges in certain applications. CCaauuttiioonn:: HDPE pipe requires the use of GRUVLOK XtremeLubricant and should not be used with GRUVLOK Lubricant.

Gruvlok Gasket StylesGruvlok offers a variety of pressure responsive gasket styles. Each serves a specificfunction while utilizing the same basic sealing concept. Proper installation of the gasketcompresses the inclined gasket lips on the pipe O.D., forming a leak-tight seal. This sealingaction is reinforced when the gasket is encompassed and compressed by the couplinghousings. The application of internal line pressure energizes the elastometric gasket andfurther enhances the gasket sealing action.
