Released in 1971 by Paulo Salim Maluf, the Minhocão is one of the most controversial works in the history of the city of São Paulo, which in time turned out to be a great wound in the urban landscape .With a brutalist architecture, its structure has dramatically increased the levels of noise and air pollution dramatically, obstructed visibility and pulled the privacy of people living in the vicinity, in addition to degradation and astronomical devaluation of the region.

THE PROBLEM

It is necessary to demolish the Minhocão structure for the construction of an integrated wooden Boulevard with bike paths and LRT (Light Rail Transport) lines for public transport.To minimize the impact on the population, alternative routes for vehicles must be built before the project implementation, since the Boulevard would be restricted to the LRT, bike paths and pedestrian.

HOW WOULD IT WORK?

THE SOLUTION

It would not be just a Boulevard, but also a new way of thinking about the city, urban mobility, opening up new possibilities and paths, starting with a unique transport system in the city: The LRT.Implementing a LRT system in Minhocão region can act as a pilot scheme and encourage discussions about more efficient solutions for urban mobility.The Boulevard is a new concept, a form of humanizing and revitalizing the city center, making the cur-rent space better looking, valuing the region and integrating in an harmonious way with important neighborhoods such as Higienópolis, Santa Cecília and Perdizes.

WHY A BOULEVARD?

The city of São Paulo could create partnerships with banks to expand the bicycle rental service, and other companies linked to health and well-being to offer yoga and martial arts classes and other activi-ties. Thus, the population would enjoy a space with several options for activities.Large companies could sponsor events to be held within the Boulevard through cultural activities such as graffiti, art exhibitions and extreme sports and the very maintenance of the park in exchange for ad-vertising at strategic points in Boulevard. Also the partnership with operators to roll out spots with Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet could be interesting
